[roffles, birdie bonding!]

Solas sits back on his chubby behind, legs spread apart. He pats the ground between his legs, inviting the little bird to come play. He puts the strand of beads over his head. "Burdie play?"

[So I can keep track:
Caroline: 3 yellow
Ro: 1 green, 2 gold, 1 blue (Zak), 1 white (Ani)
Solas: 1 gold, 1 green (Ro), 1 pink (Berit)
Baptiste: 2 red, 1 green (Tamlin)]

Play? What was play? Berit hopped forward and tilted her head curiously, opening her beak to issue a small peep.

Out of nowhere someone, presumably Valelldia, hands Rojiza a thick cloth sack that contains some sort of sparkling dust. Its almost sickeningly sweet odor wafts from it. Ro knows what to do with it. It's wishing dust, and it's been a part of every wagon ceremony she'd ever attended.
Motioning for Solas to watch her, she takes a small handful of the dust and tosses it in the fire, wishing as she always does for her voice to find her.

The fire roars and, visible only to her, turn a deep shade of jealous green. Shadows flicker in the flames, not creating a clear picture. She hears faint singing and someone's laughter, but the music is not joyful and the laughter laced with malaise.
And then the vision is gone, replaced by the fire's ordinary warm glow. Ro lowers the bag for tiny Solas to toss his dust.

Solas, mimicking his sister, takes the biggest handful of the powdery substance his little hand can grab, and throws it onto the flames.
He's greeted with a simple vision. The flames don't change colors and he doesn't hear any sounds. He simply sees a jet-haired boy, about Rojiza's age, chatting and smiling with a girl, whose face is obscured by the shadow from her bonnet.
He looks up to Ro. "Who dat?" He asks, pointing to the fire.

Rojiza sighs as she passes the bag to the person seated closed to her, as Solas is too young to explain the process to.

OOC: Whoever posts next is in effect sitting next to Ro. For those members of the caravan who haven't done this before, you take the bag, throw some dust onto the fire, and make a wish. The dust then reacts with the flame and produces a vision visible only to the wisher. You may write whatever they see, and it can be as specific or vague as you wish. Then you pass the bag onto the next person.

Zak snuffled and turned away from the fire in his sleep, something was bothersome about it, he couldn't quite pin down what but it prickled on his otherwise solidly exhausted sleep. a bit of a dream fluttered across his mind frantic barking and the feel of a wind so cold it made dusty ice in the air on a cloudless day. something wrong. Zak turned and shivered underneath the thin blanket.
Rana snuggled close and drempt of a river, three otters sat on a log. one a person who was an otter, one a person who was not an otter any more and one an otter. the one that was not either said "come with me" the one who was not an otter growled "become like me" the one who was an otter seemed to shrug, Rana went over to that one and touched noses with it. they walked along the river and her paws twitched in her sleep.

Bead Count
Tamlin: Red (baptiste), Gold, and 2 Blue
Alais: Amber

Somehow she had ended up seated next to Ro by the fire. Poor girl, she seemed nice, but Tamlin couldn't understand why she always shied away from her.

The fire glinted golden off of her red hair and the heat turned her complexion rosey. Tam gave Ro a conciliatory smile and nodded her thanks for the bag as she took it and scooped up a handful to toss on the fire. She hesitated a little before throwing it in, last time had been a bit disconcerting, and she was already on edge with the Banya's fortunes earlier. Shaking the edgy feeling away she let the sweet smelling dust sift through her fingers and into the flames.

This time it was not just one image, but a series of momentary pictures. views of people traveling. Glimpses of people always in a different spot, but there were mountain looming in the background. she didn't know the people, but they were familiar to her somehow. More then the fleeting images was the sense of need to be somewhere else, to continue on the journey. Always the feeling grew stronger with every new view. Then suddenly it stopped leaving only a vague sense of urgency behind.

Alais, perched on Tamlin's shoulder felt her human chair tense up while staring intently into the fire. Alais glanced at the fire, momentarily interested at what was going on. She felt nothing except a pull to the North and images of trees. Only these trees were stunted and looked very bad for climbing among the branches. Not interested in these poor excuses of trees Alais returned to admiring her string of shiny beads.

Leshya'e watched as the red-haired woman made her wish. Waiting for a moment she then put out her hands to accept the bag of dust. Reaching in, she grabbed a small handful and closed her eyes. Joy...Peace...and Courage...for the caravan...for my Ani...for the future. She breathed in slowly through her nose and then tossed the dust into the fire. The flames danced yellow and purple, red and orange. In the flames she saw an odd shape, a curvaceous figure...a woman? a mother? She couldn't quit tell, but there was definitely something there, something that made her heart flutter. She continued to stare into the fire as she absentmindedly reached her hand out, not really looking to whoever it was she had passed the bag to.

Anezka Vujo

Luckily enough, Anezka was paying attention and caught the bag before it fell to the ground. She made a relieved sigh and wonder what her mother may have been seeing. With a shrug, she took a handful and tossed it in. You know what my wish is...it doesn't need to be said...not even thought. The fire seemed to explode into the sky, like fireworks. But looking closer the exploding embers were not flames but birds. Blue and red and white, they circled around the wagons like fluffy, protective vultures. They then scattered and flew off into the darkness. "Some day...some day..." She smiled and stood up, walking over to the next closest person and handing them the bag.

Tsura took the bag of pleasant smelling dust dipped her hand in and tossed some into the flickering flame in front of her thinking I want to have purpose. Before her eyes the roaring fire died down as if the dust poured upon it had been watering creating a thick grey smoke. From within the smoke Tsura saw lightning like flashes of light and heard something like rushing water. Unsure of what it all meant but not wanting to hold the others up she passed the bag on while continuing to ponder what kind of answer that had been.

Next to take the bag is Caroline, who had paused in her revelry once she'd seen the familiar sack come out. She smiles as she reaches in, recalling her previous wishes. She glances at Voltaire and can barely suppress a grin. She scatters the dust onto the fire and wishes that Solas will grow into a good gentleman.
The fire swirls into a deep, rosy pink. She sees the vague, blanketed outline of a wailing infant.

Blinking, Caroline passes on the dust.

Veshengo accepted the bag from Caroline and looked inside. He had seen this ceremony happen many times but was still surprised and in awe of it all. The Meij was such an odd and unpredictable thing. He shrugged his shoulder, deciding that it couldn't do any harm for him to participate, then tossed a small handful into the fire. The flames danced purple and gold and formed the outlined shape of a woman. The silhouette then shattered, breaking into pieces and falling away, followed by the tinkling, clattering sound of broken glass. For a moment, Veshengo glanced around at everyone present, then at his belongings. Taking a deep and calming breath, he passed the bag along.

Valelldia
Captain

It had been a good and proper ceremony thus far. Time to bring it to an end.

"My family," says Valelldia warmly as she steps forward. "Within the week we will leave this place and move north. As many of you know," she continues, smiling briefly at some of the oldest members of the caravan, "it is customary to re-order our caravan before undertaking a new journey. That is why we are here tonight. And so," she says, stepping to the fire, parchment in hand, "we will begin our travels refreshed and balanced."

She tosses the parchment into the fire, which roars and crackles. Val closes her eyes and feels the Meij press around her. Then, with a coughing sound, the fire spits the parchment back at her feet, still smoking around the edges. With a tanned hand Val picks it up and scans it over. Interesting.

"The new order," she announces to the waiting gypsies, "Will be thus:

Whistlestick,
Spotted Sage,
Varekai,
Honeyed Aria,
Mountain Air,
Rhythmique,
Singing Bird,
Ravenwood,
Lunar Dawn,
PhoenixSong,
Rusting Canvas,
A Light in the Dark,
Balormengro,
Narkri Chooma,
The Beating Drum,
Mossy Charm,
Clair d'Lune,
Singing Bird,
Daggerheld,
The Bubble and Boil,
Sunstorm,
Daityrvyn,
Blessed Change,
Wind Wheels,
Myriad of Dreams,
Forest Spirit,
and Weathered Melody.

We'll put them right tomorrow." Val tacks the scroll to the door of her wagon, and goes inside.

((The ceremony is now over. You're welcome to stick around and RP more wishing dust or whatever, or you're welcome to go to bed.))
