We get punishment work just like any other team-type thing.
Swimming: extra laps Football: yard dashes Soccer: drills
Band: band suicides/laps around the field (dunno about you guys, but with us, it's WITH your instrument) (though, the drummers had to stand facing a wall, mallets and sticks in the air, with drums on for 20 minutes this year when they didn't listen...)

Pfft...I hate people like that. Especially the football players. They're never out there in the summer, or if its over 90 degrees...Our band? Out there for up to 8+ hours at 107 degrees for like a week running around learning drills and sets and music and ugh...and yeah midnight, we have to run too, but not with our instruments because the BDs are afriad of messing them up..but we makeup for it because we run like 5+ laps around the football field.

"marching band is just walking while playing"
and football is just running and throwing a ball

If marching band was any easier, it'd be called football. =D Seriously, if cheerleading's a sport, so is Marching Band.

I have a small question. Do we really want people to consider marching band a sport? We'd get surrounded by jocks in no time...That would be scary. o_o Do we need the addition of jock straps amongst our lines?

No, we really wouldn't. Badminton's a sport (the only one-not including marching band, hehe-that I play) and it's definately not associated with Jocks.

that really annoys me! yeah, i just "yelled" at one of them, it felt nice. i tried to get everything in. you shold read it. yeah, my mom was watching dr. phil one day, and i came in and there was this one girl who was in marching band, and her step dad thought it was for sissies and all that crap. HAHAHA!!! how he thought wrong. Oh, yeah, i forgot to mention, he was a jock. Anyways, Dr. Phil made him learn basics and march part of his step daughter's show. he was out of step, out of form, kept looking at the ground. oh, how he appreciated what she did after that. that episode just made my day. lol

Playing an insturment (did I spell that right?) takes years of practice to be decent at it much less be great. And marching takes many full days of practice to be good at it. I could pick up a ball and throw it at someone anytime.

I hate those kind of people! Screw you if you don't think it's a sport. It's as hard as any other sport out there (except maybe a few..lol). I'd like to see them go through my bd band camp drills with a 50lb Tuba on their back..

MoreThanHeroez OK my girlfriend and I are both in band, and you try telling me, or ESPECIALLY her that it isn't a sport. We recently had to march a 5 ******** mile parade in California while in the rain and playing or instruments the whole damn time. My girlfriend plays sousaphone, and she is TINY. 5 feet even, so don't even go there. Asshat. That's my bit of ownage for the day. ....yay baritone <_< >_>

Look, if people can call cheerleading a sport, marching band is a sport. People in my town don't come to the football games to see football, they come to see the CCHS Marching Blue Devils.

At my school, people come to games to see the football team and the band. Our team has been 6A state champs 4 out of the 5 past years (2002 was not a good year) and we have a very renowned marching band. Ummm.... Yay Hoover High?

Quote: Your right! band isn't a sport... It involves way too much creativness to be a sport... You try picking up some of the instruments we play with ease and tell us if it's easy. It's more than tackling someone or making a goal it's about memorising your music, playing your instrument, remembering a set of 60-100 movements for one show, and keeping a perfect straight back, elbows out, and good aubasure. Not to mention doing all of this at the same time as about 200 more people. Think you could do it? I pwned xd

I agree, those kids are just dumb. Saying there is no risk!! There is too a risk. What if a big tuba falls on a short kid like me? What about the flag people who might accidently mess up and hit themselves? What about if you slip with an instrument in your hand? No risk my butt.

People like that have nothing better to do but let things like that out to the public to cause possible controversy. The things people said in that thread is complete opinion. But I must agree, band is not a sport. Band is a talent. Band is MUSIC. Band in general, is better than a stupid sport.
I didn't at all enjoy the statement, "I wish those stupid bandkids would stop thinking they're as cool as track, cross country..." They don't know the diverseness of people, obviously. It's okay to think you're cool, especially when what is cool actually benefits you. Band is a cool thing whether anyone likes it or not. 'Tis a disgrace to see such weak minded fools such as themselves. I just roll my eyes at that. rolleyes
