Beauty obliged, "Well, what I meant by us was my race. I'm a halvsy, half human half daemon. I'll see if you can guess the daemon I am. You're a bard, I'm sure you've heard plenty of stories," she smiled. Her milk and hot cakes came first, and she happily dug in. She asked for strawberries before the waiter left. She listened to him warm up on the lute, liking the music. "Now your turn," she said cutely.

Zywynran is taken aback as he realizes exactly what he is being told. After a moment of just staring, he laughs merrily and shakes his head. "Ah, I ought to have guessed. It does explain much. And yes, it is my turn. My hair has only been cut once in fifty six years. My mother always loved it long and would let it grow as much as it would. But after I became a bit older, she wished me to learn of humans and so she brought me to stay with the brother of my father. We... did not get on very well." That was quite the understatement. A good share of his hidden scars were given to him in that one, very long year with his uncle. "He wanted to hurt me, put more importantly he wanted to hurt my pride. He wanted to make me lowly, beneath him. I still do not quite understand why, but the reason behind it would not change the story, really."

"When none of his abuses got through to me right away, he became progressively worse. By the end of that year, he'd had enough of me. He bound me, beat me and took a knife to my hair. I remember that knife well; it was the same he used to slit the throats of his swine. I thought for certain he intended to do the same to me..." Zywynran suppressed a shudder. The memory still greatly disturbed him. "But I understand him better now. I cannot very well suffer, defeated if I am dead. Somewhere, if he is not already dead of old age, he is likely convinced my ego suffered at least."

Zywynran stops playing and reaches up to touch his hair. "Hair grows back. Time fixes all things. His victory was a shallow one... I wear my hair long to remind me that time heals hurts. And not to settle for such petty, meaningless achievements."

A bell sounds from outside, it sounds like a church bell. The wind has let down slightly, though it is clear from the window that the snow is still coming down heavy, and a thick fog has set in.

Beauty listened to his story with vigilance, though she ate as he told it. She nodded, "I know what it's like to be abandoned by family. At least you knew your mother though." Her tone became melancholy. "Not many succubi can have half human children, only royalty, and even then it's hard for succubi. Zxelia," she pronounced this Shelia, "was so surprised to have me. She didn't want me, and she didn't even know who the father was. She abandoned me as soon as I could fend for myself, which was early on."

Beauty picked at her food, not realizing how hard her life was, even with being able to charm men, women even into doing anything she wanted. "I had to learn everything on my own, my zxelia was always busy with another man or something other than me. It's a miracle I know as much as I do about my daemon powers. Even more of a miracle that I know what halvsies are capable of."

She grew silent and ate a little more. She wanted the music to go on, wanted to forget everything she'd gone through. Her life was by no means easy, as she had very recently been able to charm most people. Sighing, Beauty smiled, "But that too is in the past, let us rejoice the present, yes? Perhaps I can wear bells tomorrow, and you can wear other ribbons. That would be fun." She giggled as if she'd forgotten everything she'd spilled. Her bacon and porridge came, and she rejoiced in that too, happy for the meat.

"Abandoned by family? I suppose he is still my family, isn't he? I really never thought of it that way. My family is my mother and she has never once abandoned me." Zywynran lowered his hand to the instrument again to play softly. "My life has been more torture for her than for me. To know what became of me and yet stay her hand because I begged her to. But you are right, let us live in the present. I do have more bells, you know. Finish your breakfast and I will braid them into your hair afterward."

Beauty giggled, and nodded, "I would like that." She began eating again, only to stop shortly after. "Would you like some? I'd feel terrible if you didn't partake with me," she asked lightly. Just in case, she pushed her untouched porridge towards him.

"As it is far from my intention to make you feel terrible, and I am not terribly fond of going hungry, yes I would." Zywynran smiled and carefully set aside his lute before accepting the porridge. "I imagine we will be seeing other faces soon." The bells were likely to wake people. Whether or not said people bothered with church was another matter entirely. Zywynran ate daintily, taking only small spoonfuls. It was a habit he had yet been unable to break; his master's table had demanded a higher standard of manners than he had previously been used to. Before the man had died, Zywynran had been so strictly taught that he could eat a ripe plum from his master's hand and not get his palm wet at all.

McFlaust walked out from his room. "Oh greetings you two!" He greeted the bard and half-demon. "All of us attend the mass at the church of Valin'Carnith. Mercs and knights not likely too, all of them are likely to see the good Knight Captain at the Garrison, he should be up soon." He walked out the door to attend the services.

Beauty stuck her tongue out at the prospect of church. "He can't be serious, I can't go to church. I'm a freaking daemon!" She continued eating, watching Zywynran while she did. "Were you a royal?" she asked softly. "I've never seen a commoner eat like that."

Zywynran smiles pleasantly at McFlaust and nods his acknowledgment of the man's words. He had been to many churches of many faiths, having found none of his own. It might even be interesting to visit this one before making his way to the garrison. Caught off guard by Beauty's question, Zywynran cannot even hope to suppress his chuckle. "Far from it, I am afraid. I was a slave, and a rather favored one. To be a slave at a noble table is more a responsibility than a privilege. There is no room for error or you risk insult to those above your station. The results of which are far from pleasant; I learned to make no error."

Beauty was sobered by his response, not expecting that answer. "I'd rather be a noble's slave than what I was after my Zxelia abandoned me. Zxelia didn't teach me anything before telling me to get out, and all I was looking for was a little kindness...." She stopped, her voice threatening to crack if she wasn't careful. She became suddenly quiet as she turned her attention to her food. If one was extremely perceptive, one would know she was trying to keep tears back.

Beauty looked back up, "Well, anyways, I've had bad luck ever since I was born, no fault of my own really. I guess it's just what happens to unwanted halvsies. Our Crown Prince has the same troubles, he's only half, but the King of Incubi hates him. Hates his own son. I haven't kept up with the news over there, so...I'm sorry, I'm rambling," she said with a small smile.

Zywynran rose from his seat and moved to stand next to Kchelach's seat. He then crouched to be closer to eye level with her. "Beauty, life is what you make it. The past can be no more painful than you allow. You are alive and well, healthy and lovely. What does it truly matter that Shelia had no part in it? You can waste a lifetime regretting the connection you never had with her, or you can take comfort in who you are and the strengths you have. You speak with envy for me. I would suggest to you that it is certainly not my enslavement you envy. What you desire that I have is happiness. Not because of my past, but regardless of it."

Zywynran reaches up to lightly touch her face, barely grazing her cheek with his fingertips. "What do you truly lack for your happiness, Kchelach? I do not speak of your mother; I assure you that you do not need her. Think deeper than that; what do you truly need?"

Beauty looked at him with sad eyes, not sure of what she wanted herself. She had to look away to think for a moment. "In a way, I want to stop living the way I do. I want a single place to stay with one man and a family. I want to stop hurting inside, and covering it up," she said thoughtfully. A sad smile crossed her face, "And it's not the connection that I never had with her that disturbs me, just the turn of events that happened after the fact. I don't regret not being close to my Zxelia."

Beauty ate a little more, half trying not to look at him. Giving him a better and truer smile, she said, "I'm so very sorry, I'm not usually like this." She gave a small giggle, "I don't usually like to dwell on my past, it's so very hard to think on it." She touched his hair softly, making the bells jingle ever so slightly.

"I have no doubt it is difficult to think on your past, but perhaps you needed to this once. Healing tends to begin with even more pain. Feel free to call upon me whenever you need a sympathetic ear. When I am not the all singing, all dancing fool, I am a fairly good listener." Zywynran rose to his feet once more and smiles down at her. "The things you desire, there is no reason they cannot be yours. Give it some thought. I will return shortly." Zywynran greatly wondered what secrets Kchelach had yet to tell him, but he would not pry. They were still little more than strangers; he could not expect her to speak of the most painful parts of her past right away if ever at all. Zywynran shelved his curiosity as he made his way back up the stairs and to his room. He opened his chest and quickly sifted through to find wht he wanted.

At the sound of loud bells Kale quickly rose up in his bed covered in a cold sweat and slid his hand down the scar across his face. "Just a dream..." Kale said to himself trying to recall what happened in his dream and then looking down to see he was in his chain mail shirt and buckled pants, and then the memory of him ordering a couple drinks then passing out flowed over him like a gust of wind. Shaking his head Kale made a mental note to confess later when he had the chance.

Sliding on his boots Kale pushed his hair back and in a flash of white light it was standing up on its ends as he opened the door to his room and went down stairs to find the colorful man from last night and short woman with that of long white hair. Waving his hand up he greeted the two "Good morn to you both, how did everyone sleep last night?"Walking over the bar Kale sat down one seat away from the woman and smiled at her as the brightly colored elf walked away.
