"I started on the cello, but I have since learned the concert harp, hammered dulcimer and the violin. I am afraid I do not actually own the others; I rent them when the mood strikes me. I sing as well. What type of music do you enjoy?" Edward stops playing for a moment to simply enjoy the conversation. He found the girl interesting which was a good thing as they were sharing very close quarters. "Perhaps you would like to play something?"

Aaron shoved his clothes into the dryer and turned it on. Lifting the long sleve of his shirt he glanced at his watch and quickly calculated how long it would take before leaving. He wasn't about to wait here for the hour or whatever till it was done.

From there he went to the cafeteria and picked up a sandwhich and coke, simple luxuries he missed that he rarely if ever had when living with his father, before going back to his room. He paused a little seeing the door open, knowing it meant either his roommate had arrived or he had or was being robbed. The former being more likely of course. Oh well. He couldn't expect to have the room to himself the entire time. And he did need to put his dry clothes away instead of dumped in a jumble on the bed.

Taking a breath he entered the room and glanced to the girl on the bed, along with her luggage. She had a lot more than he did, he only had the one side bag, though he did still have to buy his school things. "Hey," he said in greeting as he entered and went to his own bed. There he stood and began refolding his clothes, placing them on piles on his bed to make it easier to put them in the appropriate drawers. He didn't bother introducing himself; just as he knew her name was Avery, he knew she would know his name from the same piece of paper. Absently he realized that she was the girl he had seen asking for directions but dismissed it. She didn't look like a freshman, likely she just never had a room in this area where Aaron had.

Avery opened one eye, hearing the boy say something. "Urk," she sat up, yawning. She wiggled a bit, stretching as she half-woke up. "You must be Aaron," she stated, getting up and beginning to unpack. She didn't really care that she was sharing a room with a boy. It was going to be an interesting experience though. Somehow, she expected she'd enjoy it sometimes. Sometimes, other times it would be awfully awkward.
Avery told herself that she'd shared a room with her brother half her life, what difference was this boy going to make?

[Sorry for not posting yest. and most of today, couldn't find the time]

She sighed softly as the music stopped. Her father had never heard her play for all of three years. During these summers he was either away or had booked the day up with activities that most people would find joyful. She found them dull in comparison to what she'd just done. She couldn't blame her father, he was trying his hardest to appease her, instead she blamed herself, but sometimes it hurt to do so. She did it so that all her spite would not be used on the father that had saved her so many times in the past. She was so absorbed in her own thoughts that she once again almost missed his words. His idea intrigued her however. Play, with a band? She'd barely ever tried duets. Still, it piked her curiosity, so it was worth thinking about. "Tell me more." She asked, her head turned to him.

Aaron glanced over his shoulder in surprise when it seemed like he woke her. But then he guessed he was a bit tired from travelling so if she had to travel along way he guess it made sense.

He gave a nod when she guessed that he was Aaron but didn't bother replying with 'I guess you're Avery'. It was obvious. At least she didn't seem to be one of those girly-girly-pink-loving-girls.

Finishing folding - there wasn't much that was dry afterall - he put them away in the cupboard. And it was still raining. How irritating.

She noticed the music had stopped... And for a moment it made her sad... But their conversation continued, and so she figured she couldn't complain. "Music, huh? I'm not sure... I have a huge music range, really..." she said softly with a smile on her face. "Although your music makes me truly enjoy the classics..." she said with a nod of her head as she turned to look at her instruments.

"Play something? Yes, that would be nice... But, I need a piano for that. Would you like to accompany me to the lounge? I know they have a piano there..." she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She got up, walking over to Edward and outstretching her hand. "If I told you to take my hand, would you follow me?" she asked him curiously, a slight tone of strange playfulness on her voice.

Edward was a bit taken aback by Serena's last question. It sounded entirely like something the lead character might say in a movie. Still, her obviously playful mood was infectious and Edward adopted a tone of mock concern. "Might I be allowed to dress properly first? It is not my habit to run about shirtless and barefoot. At least, it has not been since I was about six years old." He laid the cello and bow in their case and rose to his feet.

Edward felt a little awkward ignoring her outstretched hand, but all the same he really wasn't about to be led off through the halls half dressed. And a handshake would seem downright silly. Well, they were being a bit silly any way and it was certainly better than ignoring the gesture altogether.

Finally he settled for taking her hand in his and bowing over it slightly. Even more ludicrous, but he supposed he was in a more silly mood than he realized. "A few moments more and I will follow you anywhere you like." Edward released her hand and stepped over to his discarded clothing. The shirt was still damp, but they were staying inside. It would suffice.

Serena wanted to laugh at the gesture, but held back, a small chuckle issuing forth from her instead, and a bright smile on her face. "Ah, but clothes are so overrated," she teased, but allowed him to dress as she pulled on her socks and white converses, which, luckily for her, were dry. When she was ready, she opened their door and leaned against the frame to wait for him. Where did her sudden talk come from, she wondered, as she watched the blonde haired boy pull on a shirt of his own. She felt her cheeks get warm, inwardly hoping he wouldn't notice, or rather, if he did notice, he wouldn't comment her stare.

"Perhaps you are right, but I will not test that theory. Clothing is only overrated in the relative privacy of our dorm room. Well, within reason. I hardly wish to make you uncomfortable." Edward decided the tie was not a dire necessity and left it where it was. Finally he picked up the cello case and joined Serena. He smiled at her, thinking nothing at all of the color in her cheeks. He did not truly notice it, even. He was a bit preoccupied with the anticipation of more music to come. But only once they had reached the lounge, and so his thoughts were already there rather than in the now far too quiet confines of the dorm room."Lead the way and I shall follow, as promised."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 4:13 pm

Serena noticed that he was wearing a mint colored shirt, and realized then, that the guy she had bumped into in the hall, was, indeed, her roommate. How ironic, indeed.

She nodded in affirmation and turned, walking out of the dorm room and down the hall, where she opened one of the first most doors, entering the lounge, spotting the grand piano that sat in the farthest corner. "Ah! I was right!" she said with a laugh and walked briskly over to it, sitting down on the chair and opening it up. "Alright then, to business, hm?" she said with a nod of her head and warmed up a little before looking up at Edward and smiled.

"Piano Variation in Blue..." she said softly, her eyes closed, hands poised neatly, gracefully, even, over the black and white keys. The notes suddenly seemed to flow into the room, overflowing, a certain emotion floating around the room that reflected the blonde haired girl that sat on the piano bench. She moved with the music too, a graceful movement that mimicked water. All in all, if one was to set eyes on Serena playing, they would know that she was enveloped in the song, pouring her soul and heart onto the keys...

Edward was content to follow Serena, and when they reached the lounge he sat quietly in a nearby chair to listen to her play. Next to him rested Duvessa which he fully realized he could have just left in the room, but... well, he did not want to. The tune sounded familiar and yet he could not immediately place it. Nor did he spend too much time thinking about it. Instead he watched her delicate hands, her perfect posture, the serenity of her expression. It was very fitting for the piece, he thought. He thought to compliment her, but honestly could not bring himself to interrupt. Especially as he feared it might interrupt the sway and the flow of her form, bending to the music.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 6:20 pm

It took a few more measure, but soon, Serena had lifted her hands away from the piano keys and opened her eyes to the brightness of the room. She sighed contentedly... The song, Piano Variation in Blue, composed by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek form the soundtrack Finding Neverland. It always gave her a sense of serenity... A sort of peace of mind that she always longed for, and she brushed her hands along the keys before realizing Edward was there. Had she gotten so lost in the music to have forgotten about his existence in the room as well. A light rosy color painted her cheeks. "Oh, goodness... I guess I got really wrapped up in that... I hope it wasn't too painful to listen to," she said with a smile and a laugh that seemed more calm than before...

In ways, music did just that to Serena. It could change the appearance of her emotions, depending on the song and its nature. The song she had played on the piano was dreamy, a lullaby sort of song that held, in itself, a sort of venturing into a different world. And it was this emotion that was now portrayed on Serena's calm features... A sort of dreamy look, as if, at any moment, she would be able to fly off into the distance...

"Are you fishing for compliments, Serena? You surely know as well as I that you performed remarkably well. All the same, I do not mind telling you so again; you were quite marvelous. Very beautiful." Edward eyed the piano, an instrument quite alien to him. He much preferred strings. Still... such a wonderful sound had come from this instrument that he could not help but admire it. "How long have you studied the piano? You have quite the talent."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 7:11 pm

Serena blushed, laughing a little. "No, not fishing for compliments. My brother just gives me a hard time so often, that I get self-conscious. Sometimes I just sit there afterwards and play with the keys on the piano... I feel something when I play... And I don't want it to stop. But at the same time, there has always been something missing," she said with a smile at Edward, looking once more at the piano, playing softly, Fur Elise... The first song her grandmother taught her...

"How long? I started when I was six years old. My grandmother played me Fur Elise for my birthday... And I wanted to learn to, so I spent a week in front of that piano, watching... Mimicking my grandmother... And by the end, I could play. After that, she paid for my piano lessons. I played that piece for her funeral a couple of years ago. She was, after all, such a lovely woman..." she said before turning to look at Edward.

"Ah, but enough of that," she said with a laugh, shaking her head. "Let's hear a song from you, and see if I can improvise to it..." she said with a nod of her head. She loved improvising when it came to playing instruments. It made it all the more fun and surprising...

"As you wish." Edward complied, opening his case and withdrawing his cello. "But if it is improvising you desire, that is what you shall have in its entirety." He was glad for the emptiness of the lounge; he was still unused to playing publicly. Especially when he was sticking to no strict song, but rather playing the notes as he felt them. He drew the bow over the strings, eliciting a sound that made his heart quiver along with it. For this audience of only one, one who had already stumbled upon him playing in such a manner once before, he could make an exception. Edward began to play a tune that was much like a waltz. Simple enough really, despite its spontaneous nature. He smiled to Serena.

"Shall we dance?" If Serena's heart was as moved by music as his own, and Edward now had good reason to believe it was, then in that way at the very least their playing together would be as intimate as dance. It was a thought that almost distracted him from his play. But only almost. "You said your brother gives you a hard time. But why? Believe me when I say I would not flatter you. I am not so desirous of approval that I would compliment a skill you do not possess. I mean to say... I cannot understand what reason he would have not to appreciate your talent."
