I read a LOT, so it's kind of hard for me to narrow it down to my favorite, but the two books that I turn back to constantly are:
Wicked, by Gregory Maguire.
Phantom, by Susan Kay.
My favorite author, bar none is Gregory Maguire.
I really love his style of writing, as well as his plot development skills and philosophical debating in regards to what 'really happened.'

*cherry*

i love to read and write, too. My favorite book series of all time is the Southern Vampire Novels, also known as the Sookie Stackhouse Novels. Written by my favorite author, Charlaine Harris. I'm a big vampire fan. But, I also like the Undead Series, the Twilight Saga, the Stephanie Plum Novels, and a classic To Kill a Mockingbird. My other favorite authors are, Mary Janice Davidson, Harper Lee, Stephanie Meyer, Janet Evanovich, and Kristina Larsky.
