Going back to topic...
Your avvie is okay. Just lose the long, black hair and make it something short as well as that black face paint. It makes you look like a Native American from those cowboy flicks although I'm not saying they suck. It's just that an Indian for a Shinigami is kind of like having Black Sabbath for a church choir. Again, I'm not being racist here. Think about it: Squad Captain "Running Turtle" or Vice Captain "Sitting Duck".
7/10 for you.Aiko Ren-Saki I like it. The different coloured trouser legs and the santa hat adds a uniqueness to the whole outfit. (I've lacked the funds to finish my avatar, so here's a picture. I don't mind which one you decide to rate.) 
As thanks for that comment, I'll rate you. Your avvie is quite interesting if you're going for the magical schoolgirl/ dragon tamer thing, but I have to agree with Rhia that your avvie is a tad too plain. In any case, I've watched so many magical shoujo anime so I kinda like it in a twisted sense, however, there's still room for improvement. I'll give you 6/10

Why thank you and may I say that your avvie also looks quite elegant in that dress, even though I don't know who you are. In fact, in my opinion, she looks like a traditional English lady. Also, the tiger is quite a nice accessory, although it seems somewhat out of place. But anyway, 9/10
