*Ahem* If the contest ideas are still going around, I volunteer to be one of the artists to draw the picture prize. As I'm posting this in July, I don't have a means to color those pictures, colored pencils or CG, but I might soon...

How about a "Stories" section? A place for us here at Roleplaying Gems to submit our own original or fan-stories? biggrin

Okay, so I've just been back reading posts from like, October-November, and it really saddens me to see that this guild has always been in the lows on activity.
So I have decided that I will do ANYTHING that Mr. E or anyone else asks of me to help and get more members. Need a contest idea? I'll do my best. Want me to go wild with posting recruit forums and PM'ing people who are looking for "Literate RP's"? I have a lot of free time on my hands. I really like this guild, and I would like to see it bursting at the seams with Literate people.
On a side note: I don't know if it was Divine Intervention or just crazy cool coincidence, but while I was thinking about finding more Literate RP'ers, and thinking of what to say to them, the Judas Priest song "Diamonds and Rust" came on and I was like "Diamonds... Roleplaying Gems... Sweet x]"
(I just keep editing this xD)
Also, I read up on the "Guild Holiday" idea, and I think it's great. We should definately do something like that. We can gather up all the active members, and to see who is active just find people who are consistently posting in their threads, and we can hit the towns and have a party biggrin
And again, building on ideas already stated, how about a Halloween contest? It's the beginning of August, so the next big holiday, in the U.S., is, of course, Halloween. We could have a contest on the best Halloween costume? I'm sure Gaia will be doing something where you can buy costumes and stuff, but this is different. This would be going to all the different clothing shops to find what makes your Halloween costume unique. Whether you are trying to be random TV head guy, a high-school drop-out, or a space invader, your costume should be put together from the clothes in the shops and Marketplace. Added points for originality and even more points for coolness.
I'm not a Contest superviser, or even an authority within this guild. In fact, I just joined not too long ago, but I really don't want to see this thing die, and I know that we can have fun, interesting events in the guild if we just raise membership and activity.
That is why I'm going to say this again: I'll do anything you guys want to help raise membership and activity. Hell, I'll probably end up posting threads and tracking people down anyways. ...I'm that weird guy with the book standing next to him

Well, I think the whole concept of the guild dying of inactivity has been curbed for now. Making that front page really was the boost in membership that we needed. Now that we are no longer on the front page tho, is up to -everyone- to make sure that they are posting regularly in any and all rps they have committed themselves to! That alone is the single most valuable contribution to the guild any individual could make.
We really do need to get another contest going. I like the idea of a Halloween event. In fact, I have a possible suggestion of my own to lay down with the costume idea (( which I also like )).
No matter what creed, culture, or religion you might claim.. Halloween is my bday and therefore must be celebrated to the fullest! *cheshire grin*
No really, Halloween is a must. I actually have several ideas, but my favoured one atm sort of combines them.
We create a subforum in the guild for seasonal events. This one would feature Halloween. Into that forum would go:

Halloween based contests (( like the costume contest )).
A recipe thread where people could post spiffy halloween recipes. Things like brain cupcakes, zombie meatloaf, skull cookies, grape eyeballs. Everyone would be encouraged to submit a pic of the finished good with the recipe.
A thematic rp with free entry/exit that anyone could join, based on the Nightmare Before Christmas setting. Usually free entry/exit and non storyline plots are not allowed in the main forum, but in this case it would be a temporary rp specifically created for a seasonal event. There would be no cannons allowed, because if there are no profiles we'd have no way of controlling cannons or duplicate cannons. We'd create a plot and people could play themselves, only as monsters of course!
Whatever other spiffy thematic threads we could come up with.

I think tracking people down and making recruit threads would be lovely! Just make sure you don't violate any thread or forum rules. We don't want Gems earning a bad reputation. I'll be hiring advertisers soon.

Continuing on with the Halloween themed contest ideas, how about we do one like "Who Can Create the Best Horror Villain/Monster." There wouldn't really be any rules, but copying monsters/villains from our pop culture would be discouraged since Originality begets bonus points. Whoever wins would get a prize, or money, or a special title within the guild?
Another contest idea would be a "Horror Story" contest. Members would create their own ORIGINAL horror short-story, submit it in with however the contest would need it to be submitted, and then the judges could decide which one was the most horrific. I figure a prize for this one could be something like a "Master of Horror" title or something :3
I had another idea as well, but I'm not sure how well it could work. It would be a contest with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme. The general idea is that it would be a tribute contest, users submitting NBC artwork that they have done themselves, or else uploading a video to YouTube of them playing NBC songs on their respective instruments. The problem with this one is that I'm not sure how whoever would run the contest would monitor whether or not the artwork/music would REALLY be that person. A way to do this would be to require them have Roleplaying Gems somewhere in the vid, to show that that the person submitting the "tribute" would really be the person in the video. Not sure how that would work out though... =/

Hmm.. how about instead of making it artwork, because yes the problem would be the authentication, we do it via avi and see if people can dress up their avi as a character from NBC?

A sub-forum for stories of your OC's and long posts from other RP's that you want others to read would be nice I guess. Good for improving as well. Just post a story and ask for feedback...unless that goes in the other sub-forum.
