Daven started speaking when Tagg reached Bull.
"My friends, we are gathered here to sanctify and bless this union of two people into one unit, a unit that is to fight together, to be together, to support and help each other in every way needed.
"For that is what we are talking about here, a union, a synthesis, a partnership. This is not two people becoming one person, it is not two people remaining two people, it is two people who have chosen to become one group, a pair, a partnership.
"Marriage is not about one person subsuming the other, it is about cooperation. It is about both supporting each other, through the good times and the bad.
"A partnership is about one person supporting the other when they are deficient in that area, and being covered by the other. But it is also about where both are complementary to have a greater than each union. I look forward to seeing this unit at work."
Daven paused for a few minutes to let those words sink in.
He looked at the two before him.
"Do you both promise that you come here to be joined to each other, to help the other when they misstep, to allow the other to help when you cannot go on, and to work toward joint goals when you both are after the same thing?"
He waited for their responses.
