" I was speaking of a different town, you dolt. " Angelique's speech pattern changed drastically. It slipped from a noble heiress to cross between a village child and a farmer's daughter. She huffed irritably, not so much because of Ulric, but her own inability to act.
Rees caught Ulric's glance and he stilled, frozen like a deer with one hand on the edge of the pounch and the other clasping a ruby amulet. When Ulric turned away, he shrugged and continued on with his work. Only when he had all of the treasures secured did he rise to join them. " Any town would throw out an injured foxtaur. "
Angie snarled and grabbed her bag from Rees, giving him a good level glare before she hoisted it over her shoulder. " Then we won't go then. " She looked at the two of them. They were both so mix-matched, beautiful in their own ways, but yet so very different. Their fighting styles varied, and yet, they could fight. That made a plan formulate in her head. " An escort? Well, now, your talking my language. If you two take me to the beach South from here, protecting me from vagabonds, of course, I can pay you most handsomly. "

Ulric laughed. "So you were playing me?" He smiled as he watched the exchange. "We would be more than happy to escort you to the South beach..We happen to be going in the same direction, aren't we Reese?" He flashed a look to his companion, begging him with his eyes.

Rees frowned. He crossed his arms in an irritated fashion as his tail tossed furiously behind him, practically beating the air to a bloody pulp. He was most certainly not going in that direction and he would most certainly not be happy to escort this little thief anywhere. " What's in it for me if I go? " Ulric's eyes did not go unnoticed, but they fell on a deaf mind. Rees had learned long ago never to give two shits about anyone and he preferred life that way, thank you very much.
Angelique adjusted her shoulder back and bounced from paw to paw, thinking nervously about how to best convince the blue one on how to go. " Well, for starters, I'm a wonderful cook. " This was actually the most truthful thing she'd said in the past week. Her meals were enough to send the most sinful of men crying to the gates of Heaven. " I'll make a meal for you everyday and I can clean up after myself, so you'll never have to worry about messes. That and - " She pulled out her secret weapon to sweeten the deal. " -one hundred gold pieces to you both for escorting me. "
Rees' eyes widened. " Deal. " He reached for the coins, only to have her yank them away from his grasp.
A little finger waggled infront of his nose while the female giggled, sticking her tongue out just enough to make him want to bite it off. " Nuh-uh. Not until we get there."

Ulric smiled widely. "Well arent we the lucky ones?! A cook and a lovely companion wrapped up in the same package." If he had been a pup, his tail would have been wagging furiously but being the mature adult he was, it only wagged slightly. He laughed at the exchange between his two companions. A little place in his chest seemed to warm. No longer did he have to bear the journey alone. He finally had someone to confide the pains of a unfruitful search with. "So, shall we be going?"

Lovely? Any sane woman in her mind would blush at such a compliment, though she had the good graces to do it subtly and not allow him to see it. Though, it did make her heart flutter. Padding a little away from the source of her momentary spazz attack, Angie shrugged her shoulders. " Might as well. If we don't move soon, those ruffians are going to wake up and we'll have a repeat of earlier events. " With a glare in her eyes, she looked over at the fallen attackers and stuck out her tongue.
The day truly was shaping up to be beautiful. When she tilted her head to the sky, all she could see was bright sunshine bouncing in a clear blue sky. Her face started to lose all of its tenacity and soon she found herself truly smiling. " Look, guys, a rainbow! "
" Yes, yes, it's beautiful. " Rees grumbled as he maneuvered past her, still dodging the occasional mud puddle in favor of dryer land. " Like you were saying before beauty destracted you, lets go. I heard one of them groaning. "
Angie tilted her head to the side and tapped her lip. " You know, you haven't introduced yourselves. I got that his name is Rees - " She pointed to his blue snow leopard fur but when she looked back at Ulric, she held a slightly different air. It was almost like she was waiting on pins and needles, hoping for a heroic name for her hero, "- but I never got yours. "

At the mention of the attackers awakening, Ulric immediatly stared walking away, rubbing his eye unconciously. It is a beautiful day He watched Angie with a small smile on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, grumbling at Rees's reations to a wonderful day. At the sound of her voice, Ulric's head snapped into action. He held his head straight, tightening the grip he had on his bag as he brought his shoulders back slightly. "Ulric." He had to clear his voice slightly. "My name is Ulric." He mentally kicked himself in the head for giving off such a strange impression of himself. He felt as if his lungs were made of thin paper and any breath would pop them. Every step he had down the road was heavier than the first.

A little puff of air escaped her nose in what was Angie's normal way of laughing. She grinned and saddled up next to him, keeping up with his pace as briskly as someone who hadn't been threatened only moments before. " That is one cool name, Ulric. Very manly and buff. " Openly, she appraised him with her eyes and a little rogueish twinkle lit up the contoures of her face. " It suits you. " She'd slipped her voice down into a husky whisper so that only Ulric would hear and not the grumpy one trailing along behind them.
Rees was put out. He was frowning, which wasn't new by any stretch of the imagination, and had his arms acrossed over his scarred chest. The chemistry between the two was enough to make him gag. Flirting on her part, shyness on his- Bleh. Simply disgusting, really.
He rolled his head upon his shoulders, working out the kinks as Angelique prattled on with small talk. Rees made sure to stay just close enough to them so he wouldn't lose them, but far enough away where he could pretend that they weren't talking. His mind wandered as he stared out into the infinent sky above. Pictures of life before it all turned to hell danced before him, making him a bit melancholy and sluggish.
Well, at least he was almost alone.

Ulric smiled his trademark grin; it was warm, charming and devilish all in one ear to ear gester. "As well as yours suits yourself. Angelique..You know, I believe I do prefer to call you Angie. If that is alright with you?" He winked, his voice low and gentlemanly. His eyes scanned her features, noting the feminine curves and the waves of her hair. The years of traveling the road were displayed clearly on his face, the open study of the female beside him, the look a hunter has just before he pounces. Ulric's eyes flicked back, noting the utter discust on Rees's face. Truth be told, he did feel a little bad for leaving him behind while he chatted with the new companion. There was something oddly familiar about Rees, a fact that haunted his conscience as he hogged Angelique all to himself.

Her face flushed. She was used to being fawned over, but not by someone who had gotten the stuffing knocked out of him by fighting for her. Well, not technically, but the details really didn't matter, did they? " Angie suits me better. " Tucking a chunk of hair behind her ear, the foxtauress couldn't help but feel like tonight might be alot better than what she had planned, if she played her cards right. Ulric looked like he was ready to tear her up. " Angelique sounds too stiff and formal; like some old bitty who sits on her porch all day knitting sweaters. "
Rees glared at Ulric when he turned to face him. He wanted the other male to know just how much he hated this. Not only Angelique, because it clearly wasn't all her fault, but the travelling thing. He'd been dragged into going on a duo adventure and this trio thing was pushing it. And yet, his eyes started to play tricks on him again because he couldn't see Ulric as an adult anymore. He pictured him as a little kid with a big grin and even though he couldn't see it, he just knew that he'd have a scrap somewhere on his little lilac body.

Ulric's shoulders slumped a little bit under Rees's hate filled glare. Was it his fault that things had clicked between the two? As annoyed as Ulric could be right now, there was something about the pout on his face that seemed so familiar. Ulric could almost imagine a tiny foxtaur with the same pout on his lips, crossing his little arms on his chest. I'm sorry Reese.. Ulri'cs thought jumped him awake. Why had that name sounded so familiar; and why would he have a memory of a friend named Reese? Shrugging it off as some false childhood memory, Ulric returned his attenion to the woman he had saved. He loved the way she carried herself; so confident and carefree. This was not a woman who would want to stay in one place for long. The woman before him was one that would travel the world, see exotic places; perhaps by his side. Ulric couldn't help but grin at his thoughts. "I don't think I could ever see you as stiff and formal."

"If I ever make it home, I'll kind of have to be." Angie huffed and resituated the sack full of treasure that threatened to fall of her shoulders. "My father took a bad fall last winter and without any other kids to fall on, I have to run his jewelry shop. Do you realize how boring that would be? Gah, I don't think I could ever do that. " Not that she didn't have fine taste, mind you. She only picked out the very best in stones and pieces, then pilfered them because not everyone had enough money to buy the world.
"I can talk the talk and walk the walk, but its just...uncomfortable, you know?" She tilted her head to the side and chuckled tiredly. " You know, that black eye really matches your hair, Ulric. "
One, two, three...Skadoo! Rees switched all the weight off his right two paws onto the left, trying to hop along as best he could just to pass the time. He'd heard all of Angelique's confession, and it made more sense now as to why she might want to leave, but stealing? Personally, he didn't like messing his personal affairs with others, but it seemed to him that someone who had a nice life should have stayed that way. Never mess with what isn't broken, after all.

Ulric smiled, playacting that his eye still hurt as he rubbed it tenderly. His head cocked to the side, he listened. "I would hate to be stuck indoors, and I can imagine you have the same disdane for it. People like up should be out on the road, exploring, not trapped in a stiff collared shop." A small smile spread on Ulric's lips as he watched Rees's dance in the corner of his eye. In his mind he made up a little tune for his dance, imagining the foxtaur with a tophat and cane.

" A kindred spirit. " That lifted the corners of her heart. Angie closed her left eye and waggled her index finger at him, grinning around her words. " I pegged you for a rogue, but I couldn't tell for sure. It explains why your on a cervitaur island of all things instead of living up the high life back there. "
Rees twirled around, his hair fanning out like a snow storm around him while his game turned up on this new level. He was bouncing from paw to paw while avoiding mud puddles, which was really hard in some spots because the road was covered in water. When he almost slipped at one point, the foxtaur looked up and groaned.
" I think I should point it out to you two turtle doves, " he called out, " that there is a fork in the road. "
Angie turned back to Rees, her eyebrows pressed together with irritation for his interuption before she turned around. " He's right. " She had completely missed it because she was so wrapped up in Ulric. The path divided up into two lanes, one going up and the other down. " So, which way do we go, boys? "
" You don't know? " Rees asked. His tone was snappy because he willed it to be.
"If I knew, I wouldn't need to be escorted, now would I? " Angie fluffed her tail up at him, her legs stiff. It was a clear dismissal worthy of any pedigreed girl.

Ulric smiled at the rogue comment, his step a little lighter. The smile spread wider as Rees's dance became more intricate. At the mention of the fork, Ulric looked foreward in the road. Why hadn't he noticed it before. The answer was obvious but Ulric wasn't going to blame Angie for his inability to pay attention to anything but her; but still the love birds remark had been amusing. "Well turn left and we go further inland and if we go right we head straight for the shore line. What ever way you want to venture." Ulric smiled wide, answering the question in his usual way. His smiled widened as he watched his two companions 'interact'. Rees seemed more like the small pouting foxtaur he had imagined, the lovely Angie showing her bloodline. Ulric swirved towards the right, ready for the sweet salt air to sooth everyone's nerves.
