The Forlorn Heart

A hollow shell, a woman torn,
She must suppress her heart, forlorn;
To love, and cherish, and be held so high,
Yet, such desires she must deny.

Her fears are great, her morale low,
With each lost suitor, another blow;
She shields her heart to stop the pain,
Yet doing so is lover’s bane.

She reached out once, her trusted beau,
Yet all he did was cause her woe;
He sought the thrill of passion’s flair,
And for her heart, he did not care.

Such traits she cannot bring about,
So now her heart is filled with doubt;
A doubt that pushes men away,
And all alone, she’s doomed to stay.

These Cursed Hands

A deathly touch, from dust to dust, and so it's hope I rend.
It's life I take, true bitter hate, the mem'ry dies with them.
So shall they mourn, filled with scorn, targeting me with rage.
I have no choice, nor morose voice, so regret shall be my cage.

The inspiration fades with time, or so the wise men say.
Or is it just that all things die, tormented by decay?
I fear that nothing shall survive, if planted by my hand.
This touch of mine, cold, unkind, converts to lifeless sand.

If on my knees, my hands entwined, I pray to God above,
Will my tears speak out to Him, and earn the muse's love?
A sacrifice, whatever price, to those who loathe me so
Will not abide their endless tide, for I am all life's foe.

And so I cease this flight of mine, surrendering my soul;
What's the point of having life, if death's my given role?
My exodus will give to hope the chance it sorely needs.
And with my death, a new-found life in all forsaken seeds.

Sin Manifest

And lo! The taint has manifest! Our sin is blackened gold;
The cost of greed, for decades paid by nature young and old;
Our sickly ways, since dawn of days, like fatal venom's hold,
Corrupts the sands, the seas, the lands, and turns our homeland cold.

Our sin, our greed, a glutt'nous seed, destroys the hearts of men!
Empty souls and hollow shells; a series without an end;
They scar the soil without a care, and never stop to mend;
The taint holds tight, and with cold might, they tear, they shred, they rend.

I fear the future of this world, ruled by these dismal husks;
Under their charge, there is no hope for dawn after the dusk;
Can we change our pois'nous ways, are we bound by greed and lust?
This vital choice must soon be made, lest homes be wrought to dust.

Author's Note:

During my trip to the beach this past week, I couldn't help but have a pleasant time. At least, until Wednesday afternoon, when the oil finally reached the shores. I knew it was inevitable, but to have it occur during my annual trip...

The event has only made concrete the events going on. It's one thing to hear about a disaster, and something else entirely to see it first hand. For those who aren't quite sure about the effects of this spill, let me just speak plainly.

The Exxon Valdez oil spill totaled about 32 million gallons spilled. The oil from that spill is STILL affecting the waters and coasts of Alaska, more than 20 years after the fact, and it's expected to take an additional 30 years to completely return the ecosystem to its rightful balance, though the damage to the wildlife population has already been done.

The Deepwater Horizon spill totals, THUSFAR (it's still ongoing), 277 million gallons. That's over 8 times more oil than the Exxon Valdeez spill, and it's STILL gushing oil into the Gulf. The fishing industry is MUCH more reliant on the Gulf than the seas affected by the EV spill simply due to the sheer variety of species. The currents in the Gulf are far more cyclical than those in the Alaskan seas, meaning this oil will simply circulate, affecting the coasts of EVERY state and country connected to the Gulf.

If the EV spill is predicted to take a total of 50 years to overcome, imagine how long this will take.

Beautiful work Kyle, the poem definitely has that haunting feel to it. Eerie and beautiful that conveys the feelings wonderfully.

Sorry about your trip. I'm horrified over this recent oil spill, though I didn't see it first hand like you. I've been following it over the news on the internet and they recently released pictures during my trip of the animals that were caught up in it. It was heart-wrenching to see pelicans and birds tangled up so deep in oil as if frozen there. Put a dampener on my trip for sure. To see dolphins swim through those murky waters and then others washed up on the shore after dying due to the poison. It's atrocious.

So I'm definitely cutting my hair, but instead of donating it to Locks of Love I'm giving it towards Matter of Trust/Ottimat who then makes them into booms and mats to catch oil. Hair collects oil! That's why we have to shampoo it! biggrin Sooo, if anyone is looking to cut their hair please ask your salon if they do anything with all the hair they cut daily!

Edit: Wow... I feel like I just ran an advertisement in your thread.... Sorry Kyle D:

Wow Kyle that a really moving poem. It really powerful. *Envies Kyle's talent with poetry*

I agree with you both. Just shows how destructive the hands of man can be... It makes me sad to think how what people are doing are going to harm future generations.

Hmm I wonder if those people accept hair that has been dyed..? I would love to donate my hair to such a cause. I need to get my bangs trimmed and hair thinned once more. *Is more than positive there will be another small dog made of her hair on the floor again.. there always is* ._.

*Gets shot* Sorry Kyle....

I agree completely with the sentiments expressed by that poem, Kyle. I hope that people will learn their lesson because of this, but I'm worried that history teaches that they probably won't. Our civilization needs to get its act together if we're to continue wielding the immense power we hold.

I'd also like to say that you have a refreshing aptitude for poetry. It's not at all clumsy like what you encounter so often on the internet.

Untitled

There was never any hope, was there?

The group had tried- tried their best, but to no avail. The Replicas- they'd gotten reinforcments. Someone had the gall, the insanity to create more of them. Now it was almost a complete set. Amy, John, Alan... anyone that had been lucky enough before was now subject to their own personal demon.

Kyle grimaced. Ajora laughed.

Ajora had all the right friends in all the right places, it seemed. Kefka had managed to trap the group in some hellish tower of sorts; the Nobodies had forced them to separate (much to Kyle's fury, Zexion was still aiding them); Geists were a constant threat, alongside Unversed hellions.

No Heartless? Oh, by the hundreds. But only simple Shadows and other such weak-tiered creatures of the Dark; more nuisances than anything, something to wear them down.

"What seems to be the problem, mirror image of mine~?"

Kyle's legs had buckled for a brief moment, only to suddenly steel themselves at his Replica's words. He couldn't show weakness, couldn't give away his guard. Ajora was toying with him, that much he knew. He hadn't even dealt a blow; his two assassin guards had been doing all of the dirty work for him as he watched in this white suit.

"You haven't answered my question yet, Ajora."

The sneer only seemed to grow as the Bloody Avatar laughed once more. With Celia and Lettie at his side (Kyle would never forget those wretches; the fact that Ajora had gotten them somehow...), the Replica was more than a little confident... not that he needed it. Kyle knew he wasn't up to par, not yet. Maybe if he'd been able to drive with Ultima, at full strength, without the Ultima Demons interfering... maybe then. But in this state...

There was simply no hope.

"A fine fellow named Dr. Lugae. Don't bother straining your memory, we didn't know of him- apparently, he's from the fourth one, or so I've been told," Ajora responded non-chalantly, cutting Kyle off from doing exactly as Ajora had predicted. "Crazy b*****d, really, but gotta love how fast he works- not quite as fast as Vexen, sure, but considering he'd never seen the information before-"

There was a flash of light- and then an explosion of black energy, sending Kyle flying backward into the sealed door behind him. He'd tried to take advantage of the monologue (why didn't they do it in the games?), only to get a taste of his own negative, over-powering the blast with ease.

"Rude," Ajora said with a quasi-ebonic tone to his voice; he'd already appeared beside the slumped-over Kyle, leaning his back against the wall beside him. "Interrupting me like that. I swear we were raised better than that... though I wouldn't really know, would I?"

The Replica seemed to laugh at his own joke. The Earthlings had found out shortly before the entire ordeal that the Replicas had been formed using nothing but the negative memories of themselves. It was something they'd always assumed, but never had the facts to back it up.

Normally, Kyle would have taken advantage of such an obvious weakness. Negative memories, repressed memories- Kyle knew very well the toll such things could have on a person's emotions. But he also knew all of his own negative memories, and knew that bringing them up would most certainly only bring this fight of theirs to a much quicker, bloodier end. All the negativity in his mind always added up to the same thing- rage. And he (and by correlation, Ajora) had a very, very violent temper.

"Why?"

"Such a specific question! Fourty-two."

"Why are you doing this?!"

The shout echoed throughout the circular mini-arena. Kyle spat in Ajora's direction, aiming at his shoes, but missed. He was never all that good at aiming his spit.

"Well, it was going to come down to it eventually, we both know that. Big climactic battle, the epic conclusion, blah blah, always the same cliché ending," Ajora said, rolling his eyes as he answered the question with such a bored attitude that it was as if he could have simply said 'duh'. "But as we all know, wait too long, and the good guys find the power to rise up and win. And I just couldn't have that, now could I?"

"So just a preemptive strike, then?"

"Exactly! I knew you'd understand. You and I are always on the same wavelength!" Ajora responded jovially, genuinely pleased at such an occurrence. "God, remember how lonely life was? No one understood us! But now we have each other! How grand... at least, it would be if you just stopped trying to repress me."

"Tch," was all Kyle could muster as he tried to get up. It sickened him, having such a friendly conversation with this thing. However, before he could bother, there was a searing pain in his left leg. He screamed for a moment before grinding his teeth, glaring at the swallow-spear embedded in his leg.

"Were you going to walk away from me while I was talking? Really?" Ajora asked, more amused than anything. "Rude."

Felt like writing, but had nothing to do. Joe suggested just writing without thinking, letting the first thing that come to mind write itself. So... there you go. >>;;
