D merely nodded and buried himself further into the warmth that was York's body.

Logically he knew he should get up. He need to make York eat breakfast and get a shower, he had tests to run on York's armor and himself, they needed to go to the store for milk they were low again, scout where the nearest law enforcement buildings were, York needed to finish the lock he'd been making last night...

"We..." he then trailed off he really didn't want to leave the bed, but there were things to be done. "I mean..." he tried to start again and then stopped again. He sighed feeling slightly annoyed with himself. "I think you know what I'm trying to say." he muttered and nuzzled York again.

York nodded. "Yes...I think I do." With a last gentle nuzzle, York got to his feet and off the bed. He padded to the bathroom to take a shower and think about what had just happened.

D loved him. That much he knew with all his being, and not just because D had told him. He also knew with the same certainty that he would never stop loving D. His heart fluttered at that feeling that flooded his every fiber. But he was worried, too. If D was still having nightmares about IT, would he go mad like the others did? He thought that he might be able to contain himself, but he was, after all, a const--

No. He's a living being, York told himself firmly. Everyone gets frightened or goes into a panic attack sometimes. It's part of what makes us foxes. Perfectly natural.

And if he should slip?
a treacherous part of his mind asked, the same part that had tried to get him to surrender D when the government was deleting AIs.

Then I'll be here to catch him when he falls, the rest of him replied fiercely. I won't let him tear himself apart like Epsilon did. D's...different from the rest. And so am I.

D watched York go into the bathroom and then stretched and wandered his way to the kitchen. He walked over to the counter and opened the bread box to make York some toast to go with what ever he managed to scrounge up. He smiled to himself as he did so. York loved him! D couldn't think of another time when he'd been this happy.

Although in the back of his mind lurked the other events of the morning. D's shoulders slumped as he remembered the look on York's face when he'd woken up. He'd dreamed about IT again. He sighed and absently put the bread in the toaster. He'd thought he was over it this time...it been a long time since his last episode.

I don't want to lose myself...I don't want to lose York... his paws started to shake as he stood there staring at the counter. He forced himself to stop and closed his eyes. I won't go crazy...I'm different...I know I am...I always have been and I always will be. he started. And I love York and he loves me. York is the one I want...the one I need...I don't need it, I never will and I never have. I have York and he's everything I've ever needed. D slowly opened his eyes and took seconds to evaluate himself. He seemed in much better now. He took a deep unnecessary breath and let it out slowly and then went to rummage in the fridge until York got out of the shower.

York padded out of the bathroom, his fur still damp. He entered the kitchen and stood behind D, peering into the fridge. "We're almost out of milk," he noted, touching D lightly with his tail.

He collected the toast from the toaster and sat at the table. "What all do we need to do today?" he asked. "I should probably finish the lock for the front door and make one for the back door...it doesn't hurt to be too careful."

No...it doesn't. There's danger everywhere, and not just outside the apartment. York tried not to think about it. He didn't want D to think he had lost faith in him. I haven't. I'm just...worried. I've been worried for him before, but before...before we didn't love each other. I have to be here for him, no matter what, not standing in the wings because I'm afraid he'll fall apart. D was always the strongest--he won't fall apart. He was never like the others. They didn't believe in the program for which they were made...

Or is that a part of it? Maybe the others fell apart, began obsessing, because they didn't know why they were there? I hope D does. He's...
different. He'll pull through if I can help it!

"Are...are you going to be okay?" York asked timidly. He didn't want to send his partner into a panic attack.

D nodded. "I know." he said smiling as York brushed him with his tail.

"I thought I'd go to the store while you finish the locks, I also need to run diagnostics on your armor today, its been awhile since I did it last. And there's looking around for the police stations around here."

D settled himself across from York and pushed his glasses up. He froze in mid gesture though as York asked him if he was alright. D sat for several seconds unmoving thinking of an answer.

He finally looked up at York and gave a slight nod. "Yes...I think so. I...I thought about this while you were in the shower. I don't want to lose myself to this, York...I'm not Epsilon or any of the others...I don't want to be like them, no, I refuse to be like them." D then carefully leaned across the table and put his head against Yorks. "How could I do to you, what they did to their partners?" he asked gently rubbing his head against Yorks'.

And then he thought of something. As far as he could remember he'd only ever used his partners real name once, the first time they'd ever met, after that he'd never said it again until now. "I love you, Robert." D whispered. "I truly do."

York threw an arm around D's shoulder and burried his head into D's chest. Startled, his ear twitched when his partner spoke his name. He hadn't been called Robert by D since...since the initial implantation. How far have we come since then, D and I? How different we are now, how we've changed...or is it just me who's changed? "I love you with all of my being, Delta," York whispered. He snuggled into D's soft, warm fur, loathe to let go...how could he let go?

"It sounds like a plan," he added to D's earlier suggestion. "I'll join you to look around for the stations." He didn't let go of D. He just held on tighter...

D wrapped his arms around York and held him close to his chest. He lowered his head onto the top of Yorks and closed his eyes. He smiled a bit as York called him Delta. It had been a long time since his partner had called him that. Something warm and fluttery spread through D's body though at the sound of his full name.

To him York's love seemed more absolute, not only did he love the D part of him, the part that contained all his programing quirks, but the part of him that was Delta, a program created to aid and assist. At least it seemed that way to him. Two halves of the whole, much like to him, York was Robert but not necessarily at the same time. And I hardly know anything about that part of him...not that it matters. D thought to himself. I love it anyway....

D nodded as York confirmed the plans for the day but he made no move to let York go. He didn't want to let go yet.

York didn't let go. There was something too special about this moment...something that, if he didn't hold on, would disappear like a butterfly in a storm. This is what love should be. Unconditional, without worry about what happens next...well, there shouldn't be. D was warm against him, solid and comforting. York wasn't even sure if he'd ever be able to let go...or if he wanted to.

He loved all of D, every quirk and turn of phrase, from his acceptance of purpose to the glasses perched on his nose. He wondered if D felt the same, or if he was curious about York's past life. I've never told him anything of what I used to be... He gulped. I'm not sure if I even want to tell. That doesn't seem right, though, does it? If you love someone, shouldn't you be willing to tell them things you wouldn't tell anyone else? Disturbed, York held D tighter and breathed in D's scent.

D felt York hold him tighter. D responded by gently beginning to caress the back of York's neck. D didn't need his sensors to know that something was bothering his partner.

"Whats the matter?" he asked gently. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want too. I just want you to know that I'm here for you." he said gently raising York's head to look his partner in the eye. D then did something that surprised even him. He leaned down and "kissed" York.

York sighed. Should I tell him? Or should I let it go? He said I could, so maybe I will... "Thanks," he whispered. He kissed York back. "I need that...and you." He gazed into D's eyes, feeling himself break free and float into his deep green orbs...

A quiet grumble broke the moment, accompanied by an impatient shiver in York's belly. He sighed as his stomach growled rudely. Gently disentangling himself from D, he sat down at the table. It was only as he bit into his toast that he realized what had just happened. He froze in mid-bite.

D reluctantly released York and then got up to go back to the kitchen. "Tea, coffee, milk or juice?" he called back to York unaware of his partners current condition. "And do you want anything else to eat?" he asked.

He waited a few seconds before peeking around to look at York. "York?"

York shook his head vigorously. "I'm fine," he assured his partner. "Just...thinking..." Why should anything shock me anymore? We're in love...things are going to change...for the better. "Coffee, please. And I guess I should have some fruit." He got to his feet and pulled an orange out of the fridge. If they had more food, he would be more picky, but as it was he had no choice. Keeping his groans to himself, he settled back at the table and began to peel the orange.

D watched York get up and get an orange. D blinked a few times to make sure what he was seeing was actually happening. He didn't think he'd ever seen York willingly get a piece of fruit. He watched York sit back down and then smiled to himself and shook his head.

He turned back into the kitchen and quickly set the coffee pot to drip. After a few minutes D brought the mug to York and sat back down across from him.

York smiled as D sat across from him. He gratefully took a sip of his coffee and glanced at the pile of orange peels scattered across the plate. "Can't believe I'm actually eager to eat an orange," he muttered, aware of how strange it seemed. Beggars couldn't be choosers, and he was hungry. Once again he wondered at the strange turn of events that led to his current life. His coffee finished, he piled the dishes next to the sink and sat back down at the table. He pulled out his kit and got back to work on the lock.

D smiled at his partner and watched him for a few minutes. He then got up and did the few dishes in the sink. He then set out pork chops for York to cook later.

"I've laid out chops for tonight." D called to York. He rummaged around for a few minutes and pulled out a box of rice pilaf to go with it. He'd figure out a vegetable later.

He then went to the cabinet where they stashed their meager funds and D pulled out enough to get two containers of milk. He then closed his eyes and pulled up the routines for changing his appearance. Unlike most AI's who were stuck in one form or another, D could alter his appearance almost at will although it was stressful on his systems to maintain them so he tried not to do it to often.

He slowly opened his eyes and glanced at his reflection in the metal strip on the counter. His eyes were now blue, his hair blonde and he was now a shade of deep red with gold markings. The way he'd looked when they'd moved in. There were to many people who might be looking for them for D to go out looking the way he usually did.

He walked back out into the living room and gave York a quick nuzzle. "I'll be back in about twenty minutes." he said. "Don't stress yourself out." He gave York a quick peck on the cheek and then left by the front door.
