I know one that people commonly mistake as "goth". Marylin Manson (The guy, not the hollywood girl person). He really isn't goth. You really get sick of so-called goths going around saying: "Oh my god! Go Manson! He is SO gothy"

Bless them, it's quite sweet really, just go over to them and ask what else is goth, them play them some nice good old vintage goth and watch their looks of horror "that's not goth!!" shake your head and walk away muttering "kids today..." very good entertaiment I assure you blaugh twisted

I go on bindges on bands then move on to a new one. Right now it's Apocaliptica. I was pretty sure it's industrial metal. I only have one song by NIN. Can't judge.

What it sounds like Real 'Goth' music is very, very poetic, most songs are poetic, rhyming etc etc. but many 'Goth' songs are actually a poem in their own right:
You shouldn't assume everyone knows exactly what goth music is. You should probably inform them about the romanticism and imagery of the lyrics.

Freya Silverflame I think Attrition, Diva Destruction, Dargaard, Dulce Liquido, Cruxshadows and maybe the Mission UK could be considered "Goth" Most people think Rammstein is goth. While I ADORE them, I think they would go under the "Industrial/EBM" label instead. And Alice O'Connor, here's from one fellow Jack Off Jill fan to another! *huggle* The Cruxshadows are considered to be darkwave. A sort of goth/industrial genre, but it's still a sub-genre of goth.

I like this thread... though the thought of someone calling linkin park 'goth' was... creepy. 'Goth' music personally is Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy, i like industrial but i dont consider that gothic. Dont get me wrong though, i am totally obsessed with industrial and i do agree it has goth influences to a large degree but trying to compare Tim Skold to Sisters of Mercy... just doesnt happen that easily.

Quote: Essentials of Darkwave: * Joy Division - Closer (1980) * The Cure - Pornography (1982) Joy Division is more of an early-goth or post-punk essential. Darkwave essential is something by Dead Can Dance. Why is there a gothic-metal section in a Goth music thread? It makes little to no sense. PS: Rozz was more important than Depeche Mode for Goth-Rock, even though he drifted through both.
