Raspberry smiled. "That is pretty good. You dig just far enough that the stem can reach the top to get sun. That's what the plants do in the beginning. THat and make roots." She showed him one of her own so he could have an idea of how deep.

Skittles listened carefully. "Wow, you know a lot about plants!" he said, clearly very impressed. "So.. we put these in the dirt. They grow towards the sun.. and down deeper too?" he asked as he tilted his head. He took one of the cucumber seeds and placed it in the hole he had made.

Raspberry nodded. "Yep, that's right. The roots grow down in the dirt to get water and other nutrients to help it grow while the top grows above to get the more water and light for more nutrients to grow." She explained with a smile.

Skittles tried to visualize it in his head. Seeing the plants growing from both ends. It kind of reminded him of when he was growing. His tail got longer and longer and his ears did too! That was the only thing he had to compare it to in his head.
"Alright!" He made another few holes and dropped cucumber seeds in each of them. "How many should we put," he asked with wide eyes.

Raspberry looked at her seeds and then to the rows they made. "I think we can put two seeds in each hole. Also make each hole about a half and inch apart. This will give them more room." She then showed him what she ment. The flowers wouldn't need to be this detailed, but for veggies it was better this way.

"Alrighty!" he dropped another seed in each hole and then covered them. "Is that good?" He started on another hole, this time measuring it out carefully to be sure he gave it enough room.

"Yep, that's very good." Raspberry smiled as she looked over Skittles work. "I think you are a natural. I"m sure you will have lots of cucummbers and flowers in no time." She chuckled as she went on with her work.

Skittles got all embarrassed at her compliment and rubbed his face shyly with his muddy paw, successfully getting dirt on his face. "Well thanks. I sure can't wait to eat them! Well.. not the flowers," he laughed.

Raspberry chuckled at the site of Skittles. She smiled and nodded. 'You know there are some flowers that taste good with sugar on them." She didn't know if she had any though.

Skittles stopped what he was doing and stared at Raspberry. "...Flowers you can eat?" He blinked once, but otherwise unmoving. "What do they taste like?"

Raspberry giggled. "It really depends. The sweeter the smell the sweeter they taste. Also, corn in a flower." That was a random fact she knew about plants. She knew a few. How could she not being in the garden so much?

Skittles blinked but continued to stare. "Corn?" His eyes widened. "Hmm... do you have any edible, yummy flowers?" His tail swished behind him excitedly.

"Not on me but back at my graden I'm sure I have a few." she nodded. She knew at least of a few you could eat. She sometimes put then in her veggie salades just for something sweet.

"Hmm..maybe sometime later, I can get some of those to plant. They sound neat!" He looked at the small garden, wondering where he would put them. "Alright...so the flowers in the front of the house next?"

"Yep, I think you are right." Raspberry stood up to look at what they had gotten done. It looked rather good. "Now, remember they need water next. Give them a good soak. They will need water everday too." She smiled as she wipped sweat from her brow.
