"Sure. I'll talk to you later then."

Xavier flew off. Maybe he'd be able to find Hichiro or the wingless Jungle Folk. Yeah that's what he'd do. He'd go find the wingless Jungle Folk now and talk to them. He was confident that he'd be able to convince them to stop destroying their home.

He flew quite awhile before he got tired and had to rest a bit. He looked around. Ok maybe this wasn't such a good idea. He had now clue where he was. Hopefully he'd be able to find his way back.

As Shiro watched the other Jungle Folk leave one by one, he felt the first twinges of misery settle in his stomach. Obviously his plan had failed spectacularly at making any sort of connection. He picked absently at the bark of the tree he was sitting on and wondered what had possibly possessed him to think that speaking up would do anything at all. It was times like these that reminded him why he had chosen to live his life in the shadows.

The voice of the Harpy Eagle cut through his thoughts, startling him out of his reverie. He stared warily at the Eagle, debating whether to simply disappear off into the trees as the others had done. However, he banished that idea almost instantly. He had involved himself in this, and he wasn't going to back out. It wasn't as if he really had anything to lose anyway.

He quickly jumped from the branch, spreading his wings out behind him to slow his descent. He landed carefully on the ground a few feet away from where the Eagle sat.

"My name is Shiro." He replied, folding his wings against his back, "And you?"

Kibum sat on a tree branch and squinted his eyes. He was like a sloth... He has been there for quiet a while. Just sitting there, waiting for something exciting to happen. He began to chirp, but then it faded, getting tired. His eyes felt like they were going to give up on him if nothing happened right then and there. 'Damn... What's gonna happen to me if I keep staying like this?'

Watching a small fly buzz around him, his eye twitched in annoyance. When it came close to his mouth, he quickly ate it, swallowing it with a smirk. Victory was his! That wasn't the thing though. He needed to find himself a mate. All the other birds have gotten themselves some cuties. What about him? Will he always be alone?

Tayo stared levelly at the Hummingbird. He looked pretty well off; not the vulnerable type. Hummingbirds were known to be territorial and short-tempered.

"Tayo," he said shortly. He looked down at his toes; they were digging slightly into the damp earth, next to a slowly inching worm. It was as if Tayo was seeing the jungle for the first time. Knowing that his home was being destroyed, he finally took the time to examine the small lives bustling about, the greenery of the trees and plants that made all the Jungle Folk feel at ease. Could the other animals sense there were intruders in their home as well? They must...

"How long have you been listening in?" he asked Shiro. His tone wasn't angry, but rather weary. Tayo hated not being in control, and these newcomers were suddenly seizing his ability to do something. It was angering him to the point where he was feeling exhausted.

"Do you have any suggestions?" He was now open to anything anyone would throw at him. Usually this wouldn't have been the case; Harpy Eagles had their pride. But his need to protect his home had to overcome his pride, at least for now.

What else could he do? What else could they do?

Tayo. So that was the Eagle’s name.

“I was listening for a fair amount of time. However, I did miss the beginning of the conversation. I arrived about the time the argument over fighting against them or speaking with them started.” Shiro answered, gazing off into the distance.

“As for ideas, I’m afraid the only one I can think of is the one I mentioned earlier: monitoring them. Everything else seems much too dangerous at the moment. Unless, of course, we could get one on its own. Talking to them would be much easier if there were only one instead of many…” Shiro trailed off, unsure of what to say next. He glanced back at Tayo and was surprised to find him looking tired. Although, now that he thought about it, he didn’t feel so great himself.

His eyes wandered back to the trees again, and he bit his lip lightly. He felt incredibly useless. Everything had seemed so much more certain when there had been many others in the clearing. It was impossible for any of them to do anything if they insisted on working alone. If they truly wanted to protect their jungle home, everyone was going to have to work together. Surely, with their combined strengths and talents, they could accomplish something. Still, that kind of teamwork seemed far-off, like an unreachable goal. With all the bickering that had occurred, could they really function as a group? Any way you looked at it, creating anything like that was going to take some serious time and work.

“There’s strength in numbers,” Shiro began hesitantly, rooting for the right words, “If we truly want to save the jungle, none of us are going to be able to do it alone. With all of our information and ideas, there’s got to be some way to put a stop to this. However, after seeing the scene today, I‘m not sure that working together is even possible. Not without everyone becoming somewhat comfortable with each other first.”

He continued, in a softer voice, ”I can’t help but fear that someone is going to do something rash. But maybe, for now, it’s best for everyone sort it out on their own. With those wingless creatures destroying the jungle, we’re going to be forced into a smaller space. That means, like it or not, we're all going to be seeing a lot more of each other. We can only hope that if everyone starts learning more about each other, things will become a little less hostile and everyone will be more willing to protect the jungle together.”

Then again, everything could come back and blow up in their faces…but Shiro didn’t feel like speaking this aloud. At any other time the thought of having to interact with other Jungle Folk would have irked him, but he figured that having a place to live was a little more important.

"It's certainly not the be all and end all, but, as much as I hate to admit it, it's really all we can do for now. What about you? Do you think there is anything else we can do?"

Eventually he ended up back at his tree where he landed in a branch. Sighing he flopped down resting his back against the trunk. That had gone badly for his first real appearance to the other Jungle Folk. Placing his spear across his lap he looked up towards the sky peering through the leaves and branches of the tree. What was happening to their world? Would they all eventually suffer the same fate as his family? Probably. Specially if the rate of destruction said by the others was true on top of what little he knew. These wingless beings were going to rip through their lands in a short span of time. He looked back to the jungle itself. And what of all the animals and plants they survived on? This was just bad all around.

Tayo didn't respond right away. He looked at Shiro as though trying to discern whether his suggestion of monitoring them would be the best. He had to admit, he quite liked the idea. Perhaps before letting them be seen by these wingless beings, observing them closely would be wisest. Perhaps some among them weren't violent or aggressive. They could only hope.

"I don't know," he admitted. He was finally going to confess his indecisiveness and helplessness to this total stranger. In these times of uncertainty, Tayo found it increasingly difficult to keep his stoic nature in check. The world he had always known was slowly collapsing around him. It wasn't apparent yet, but it was coming.

"Part of me wants to kill them all, what my Harpy Eagle instincts want to do. On the other hand, I want to take my siblings and fly into the mountains, but they would die there."

He leaned his head against a tree trunk and closed his eyes for a moment. He wish these strangers would simply go back from where they came from and leave him alone. His fervent wishes wouldn't happen, but it gave him a moment of respite, just leaning there against cool moss and bark.

"Your idea seems the best to me," he said, opening his eyes suddenly. "I want to see these things. I want to know why they are cutting down our home. Perhaps we should observe them and see if all of them are ruthless and evil."

Tayo’s agreement surprised Shiro. He had expected the Eagle to shoot down his ideas, to say they wouldn’t work. But this was good; monitoring was what Shiro did best. With Tayo’s help, he didn’t doubt that they’d be able to find out something important about these wingless beings.

“I’m certain they can’t all be evil. I’d imagine they are something like Jungle Folk: some are kinder than others.” Shiro said, trying to assure both himself and Tayo simultaneously.

“It’s probably best to split up for now: we can observe more of them that way,” he continued, “Also, if we see any of the other Jungle Folk from before…we should tell them what we're doing, and what we find. They deserve to know this information as much as us, even if they don’t want to help. Everyone needs to know exactly what it is we're facing.”

A part of Shiro was angered as he said this. Why did the others deserve to know anything if they refused to help? But Shiro kindly told this part of him to shut up. He wasn’t going to leave the other Jungle Folk in the dark and possibly in danger just because a few of them were wary of strangers. He was sure they had their reasons for being mistrustful.

After a short rest Xavier was back in the air. He figured if he kept flying straight he shouldn't get lost. Then he spotted smoke. Maybe it was them. He flew over. He sat on a branch making sure he was hidden. It was them. He figured he'd sit there and watch a bit efore talking. He didn't want to talk to them if they were mean.

Tears formed at the base of Hichiro's eyes as he flew home. He truly regreted losing his temper the way he did. Especially as he had an idea where he'd seen that Harpy Eagle before. If Hichiro was correct, which he was only about 45% sure he was, he had seen the Eagle hunting every morning for quite some time now.
This, of course, made Hichiro nervous about scavenging for fruit in the morning. he was terrified by the thought of running into the Eagle again, especially after yelling. Cockatoo's don't yell. they hide in the shadows, rarely ever making contact with even each other, they found food for themselves and their families, and they lived contently in humble shelters. His species was not known to be so....so mean.
"I can't do anything right" Hichiro sobed quietly. "First I spilled all my fruit, then I made those two sweet Jungle Folk collect fruit for me to replace the fruit I had damaged, then I yelled at the very people who helped me! I'm a useless jerk!"
Hichiro decended to a nearby stream at the head of a waterfall and sat gently on a fallen tree. He cried to himself, glad no one was around to see him do so, but still wishing he had someone to cry to. Being this alone, even with such a large family.....it hurt more then any wing-less Jungle Folk could ever hurt him. But no one would understand that. No one knew what it was like to be Hichiro.

Tayo narrowed his eyes in thought. "That depends whether the others ever want to meet each other again after that fight."

He flicked his braid behind his shoulder and gave Shiro a nod. "Alright then. Let's split up and search for them."

He opened his dark gray wings, flapped them once, twice, and flew off into the sky. He circled the forest, searching for any smoke or noise that might alert him to where these folk may be.

Finally, after a good while of looking, he flew down to rest his wings for a bit. As luck would have it, he landed in front of a waterfall and noticed a little Jungle Folk sitting in a tree, crying. Coming closer, Tayo recognized the little Cockatoo who had lost his temper in a most uncommon way for Cockatoos.

He stopped in front of the tree and put his spear down on the ground. He hesitantly reached out and put his hand on the little one's knee, just as he always did with one of his siblings when they were crying.

Hichiro jumped slightly as Tayo put his hand on Hichiro's knee. He thought he was alone when he had descended.
Hichiro gazed up through tear stained eyes at the very Harpy Eagle he was truly afraid of encountering. Irony could really stink sometimes. He quickly turned his head down and stared at the lake, not entirely sure of what to say. But, like most situations where he was nervous, Hichiro started rambling.
"I'm so sorry for going off like that. I don't know what got into me. I'm never that.....that mean. And now you came here and found me crying. you should be yelling at me for going off on all of you. I wouldn't blame you if you did. I rally am a worthless jerk..."
Tears once again threatened to escape from Hichiro's eyes, but he suppressed them. he didn't have the right to cry in front of someone he just yelled at, let alone talking to him.

Huffing he looked back at the sky just in time for his stomach to growl again. With an irritated twitch his wings moved. The mind was thrown back to just awhile before and the horrid job he did of cooking the fish. Maybe he should just go find some fruit to nibble on. It wasn't as good as the meat he so enjoyed but maybe it would shut his gut up. But with a putter he didn't move instead he just watched a few clouds roll by. Sitting here like this it was easy to forget that their forest, their way of life, and their own existance was in danger.

What was it like to know that everyone you had known were gone? Well it was indeed painful, because when everything reminded you of them... it was very hard to forget hatred for the wingless folk. But he wouldadmit... that shiro had a point, and he planned to help. Even if he didn't know what the rest of the conversation had held. He planned to find out what reason they could have for killing their habitat, his family, his everything. He wanted to know what justified them worthy of staying here. But that was Finchly anger, beneath that was his angered sorrow. All of it wound tightly into a ball. He wasn't used to being this deep in the forest, and to tell the tuth he had virtually no idea where he was. Usually he could call and others would answer, but there weren't any others. The outskirts were pretty much barren now. He was glad that the cliff on the outskirts was so high up, because eventually the wingless folk would have to stop for a bit. It would stall them, but that didn't lessen the ache inside him.

That cockatoo must hate him now, how did everything he ever said turn out so wrong. He could have cried, but Finche's hardly cry, only for their dying did they cry, and for good reason. there was a rumor about his kind, that although they were so closed into their own kind, they would help others who had ended up poisoned. They were medics first and foremost. So in part, without them the jungle would die. But also... they had a powerful weapon... their tears. Their blood was toxic but their tears could cure. It helped heal almost anything, but those sticks made death instant and there hadn't been any tears he had shed, until after his shock had faded, and by that time... there was nothing.

HE felt a stinging in his eyes but he wouldn't allow it. It was best he feel this way, cause it was his fault he couldn't help. But also, because this wasn't his home. Who knows what might take that as weakness and attack. His wings had grown tired of flitting around trees, and he swallowed his pride. Above him on a branch was a lazing folk. He took his energy and bursted up, with little flits of his wings. for he was not made for long distance fleight. He landed.

"Excuse me... I'm lost, and I need to get to the outskirts. Please tell me the way." He asked this one. Maybe Mei looked disoriented, well he could have been, for he was plucking some leaves from his orangish hair, and he looked tired. But he had been flying for a long distance and the fruit had done only a little to help. His cherry lips let out a sigh as his black rimmed golden eyes took in Kibum.

Mei would try and be more patient, but he was not in the mood to wait long.
