"We could talk about you..." Tabor replied with a shrug as they went, "I'd like to know more about your past...considering you know mine."

Julia paused for a brief moment, taken back by his curiosity about her past, but then quickly resumed her pace by his side. She sighed out...thinking about what to say.
"Well...I grew up mostly by myself. My parents were never around, and even if they were it was as if they didn't really exist. My mom was so worried about appearances, she didn't really care about anything else...." Julia hated talking about her mom. The only things she remembered about her were negative, yet Julia feared that she was just like her. She sighed and went on, "I fought with her a lot...after I gave up on trying to be perfect. Nothing I did was ever enough. I didn't have any friends, all the other kids I knew only teased or picked on me. I told myself I didn't need any of them. Friends, parents, mentors, I didn't need it. Who were they to tell me how I was supposed to be? So I stayed away from everyone, keeping my self in my own world, not wanting to let anyone in. One day my parents just disappeared. Maybe they left...maybe they died. I don't know...but it didn't matter. I could take care of myself, and that's just what I did, and that's what I've been doing ever since..."
She looked down at the ground, wondering what Tabor was thinking of her. He was the first namir to ever really care about her. She liked it a lot...too much she feared.

Tabor listened with interest as they went. It appeared to him she had her own personal demons just as he had. Still, he wished he knew his parents. He hadn't any memories of them. He couldn't help but feel bad for Julia. Her life had sounded tough and lonely.
"Are you happy with who you are now?" he asked quietly. He figured that was all that mattered. It wasn't what anyone else thought...It was what you thought of yourself. With that question in mind he knew his answer. He wasn't happy with himself...with the choices he'd made in life. He knew he needed to change, and he'd been trying. It was just a hard thing to do.

Julia was surprised by his question. She had never really thought about it like that. She was silent for a few moments as she thought about his question. Finally she answered him.
"I guess...I," she sighed. "I guess I'm not...I want to be...more confident...less speculative of others...kinder....I know I harbor more than my share of bitterness." She kept walking, her eyes careful, still glued to the ground in front of her.

Tabor nodded in understanding, "Well I have to say you give off the air that you're not happy with who you are...Maybe that's why everyone else was trying to tell you." He shrugged, "It may not have felt like it, but they cared about you Julia." He took a short pause before continuing to voice his thoughts, "And really there aren't many people who're happy with who they are. I know I'm not...With the person I became...We all have changes we want to make. But the question is when do we know we don't need to change anymore?"
He felt a bit like he was talking himself in circles, and yet everything he said made a sort of sense. His eyes stared off into the distance as he spoke, looking past everything and more into empty space, into the depths of his own mind...

Julia walked in silence, listening carefully to him. She didn't want to believe what he was saying, because it only hurt to think about it. Why couldn't she just pretend like it didn't matter, she was fine like that, she'd done that a lot in her life - pretend like nothing was wrong. She was so stubborn...
It took her awhile to convince herself that maybe he was right. She didn't say much about it, until she responded to his last question, "maybe change comes and we don't even notice. Maybe the only way we will know is if we are happy." Her eyes were thoughtful as she took the last step out of the forest and into the clearing. She was surprised at how low the sun already was.

"You think?" Tay asked with an inquisitive smile. She made a good guess, and he liked the sound of it. As they entered the clearing it was evident that it would be dark soon. He figured they should both be home before it got to hard to see.
"We should head home...I could walk you to yours if you'd like..."

"Oh yeah...I guess we should." She smiled at him and then added, "It's okay...I don't live very far from here. You go on ahead." She wouldn't mind walking with him some more, but she needed some time to think. Besides that...she didn't really have any place to call home. She just went where she wanted, slept where she wanted. It had been like that since she left home...after her parents disappeared. Sometimes she found somewhere really comfortable, and she stayed there for awhile, but it changed sometimes.

Tabor gave her one last 'are-you-sure' look, then decided she'd be fine. He nodded then looked at the sky, deciding that home was more to the left of their direction. He walked (or limped rather) a few steps then paused.
"There's a cave with a blueberry bush just outside it...If I'm not in the forest you can find me there...." with those words he continued on towards his home.

Julia watched him go, and then watched as he turned around to say his last few words. A smile lit up her face and she nodded, knowing that she would definitely want to see him again, and that apparently he wanted to see her again also. She had figured this, but it just felt nice to be reassured anyway. She then turned and walked back to the forest, heading towards her home for the night.
