With an evil little grin, she dug out the money originally intended for the meal and shuffled quickly over to the vendor.
"Two packets, please?" she asked, holding out her few bills to the man. Now that they had stopped laughing, she understood how quiet it was around the place. No wonder they had been given dirty looks as they romped through the area!
Realizing that, she grinned sheepishly at Colin.

He grinned just as sheepishly back, though his look turned to more of a horrible flush when the vendor, an older, kindly looking man spoke.
" Ah, kids in love. It does my heart good."
Colin sputtered, and it took him a minute to regain his ability to speak.
" Oh, no sir, we're just friends." He said, nodding his head. The man just smiled and winked at him.
" That's what they all say, m'boy."
Colin laughed nervously and steered Rosie away, his cheeks still red as his hair.

Good thing Rosie had Colin, or else her feet would have been permanently rooted to the ground.
Still holding on to the packets, one in each hand, Rosie's severely blushing face looked up to his.
"Guess...he... got us mixed up with someone else?" she tried. Another nervous laugh escaped before she handed Colin some food for the koi. what an embarrassing moment, but... it didn't sound half-bad.

He laughed nervously along with her.
" Yeah...must have.." He gingerly took the packet from her fingers, brushing them with his own as he did, and dropped a few flakes into the water after her opened it. He was grateful for the time he had not facing as he did this, as it gave him a chance to get his head on straight.

Rosie sat down right next to him on the ground. She, too, was grateful for this little bit of silence. One thing was clear: they were both hitting it off. But, did that mean friendship, or the possibility of not only that, but something more? Yes, it was far too early, but how often had she heard stories of people who meet and just know?
It took a few minutes before she could find something to talk about. As the koi danced around the food, Rosie stuck her fingertips in the water. Not the ones he had touched, though. She wanted to keep that light tingle for as long as she could.
"Do you ever feel like you're alone?" she asked quietly. Maybe he didn't, with his two best friends there.

" Yeah, alot actually." He looked down at her and smiled, lowering himself to the ground next to her.
" I think everyone does, no matter how rich and powerful, or meek. It helps to have someone with you that you can trust, but such people are few and far between." He wasn't quite sure what to say. So he shut his mouth, and let her speak.

Rosie seemed to have calmed down a lot once she had started feeding the fish. Then her eyes seemed cool, and a bit saddened by something Colin might never really understand.
"All this?" she said, motioning around them. "The laughing and chatting and everything... it's a first in a loooong time. And I hate myself for keeping people away for so long, because this was really nice. I mean, it is nice. You're nice." A smile made her face seem a bit less burdened by the past.
"I dunno."
Rosie threw some more food onto the water to watch the fish eat. There was an unnatural sense of peace in her mind, just watching them. She wondered if it had anything to do with the magic she had seen that boy do...

Colin smiled and gently rested his hand on her shoulder, rubbing it lightly with his thumb. He wasn't quite sure if he should hug her or back off, so he compromised, hoping she wouldn't mind.
" You shouldn't hate yourself. Personally, I don't see anything within or without to hate. All of us are scared or reluctant to let people in, it comes with practice." He shrugged, and smiled.
" I'm probably not making any sense..Sorry." She offered her a wan smile.

"You haven't seen me at my worst," she said wryly. "But I don't want you to see that." Rosie enjoyed his touch, really. "And you do make sense. More than anyone else, at least." She dumped the rest of her food onto the surface to watch it disappear into the gaping mouths of the white koi.
"Thanks, Colin. I know we just met, but this means a lot..." Her knees were brought up to her chest where she turned her head and let it rest on them. Reddish eyes flickered to Colin's face every now and then, but she felt so shy. And guilty. She didn't deserve his company, or so she felt.

" Of course. Anytime you need to talk, I'll be right here, no matter what." He gave her shoulder a squeeze before reluctantly letting go. He dumped a bit more food in with a flourish of his hand. He wasn't sure what to do for her. Only time could heal such things, but it was obvious she felt like she didn't deserve his attention; the energy of it was rolling off from her in waves. All he could do was smile and offer her his strength.

Her lips twisted in an odd way. She didn't want to cry, and she wouldn't, but what she would give just to let it all out and have him hold her.
But over what, her own stupidity? That didn't fly.
"Looks like we're stuck with each other!" Rosie suddenly declared, bumping into him playfully. "The Prince and the pixie. I think that sounds good, right?"
A brave smile went across her face. Please, let it sound good.

Colin tapped his chin in mock contemplation.
" Hmm...I dunno...I guess it'll work.." He winked to show he was just playing and threw a comradely arm about her shoulders.
" You and Me, huh Rosie? Hm..I need to think up a good nickname for you.." He said, raising his bright eyes to the sky in thought.

The arm around her shoulders was reassuring, and safe. Once more, she hadn't felt that way about anyone or anyplace in such a long time...
"My real name's Rosaline." She hated that name. It seemed as vicious as her temper, and terribly fitting. "But I like Rosie better. I dunno what nickname you could get from that..." A part of her couldn't help but lean in a bit to the arm around her shoulder. It was slight, but she enjoyed the contact.

" I'll think of something, Rosie-Posie. Don't you fret." He didn't do well in hiding his grin as he tightened the arm around her shoulders. It was nice to be close to a girl like this that you didn't consider your sister, he concluded, trying to ignore the faster pace his heart had decided to adopt.

The name made her laugh. Rosie Posie... it didn't sound completely stupid coming from him, but nothing he had ever said so far had sounded stupid. The tighter grip made her feel even more safe, and accepted, and cared for. Definitely a good change from the weird apathy she had been slipping into over the years.
"Aw, hell. C'mere ya big softy..." And with that, Rosie slipped past his arm and gave him a hug around his middle.
