Claire's expression softened into a small smile. "'I was going to say 'Please don't hurt her,' but I suppose it would be good if you didn't do that eider." She reached across the table and patted his hand, sensing his tenseness. "You are a good boy."
The door to the bedroom opened and Marketa came back out. Her brow furrowed upon seeing her mother pat Sirius's hand, but she otherwise said nothing.

((YOU ARE PURE EVIL, KT!!!!!))
Sirius blushed deeply when Claire said that - he needed to stop jumping to conclusions all the time! He felt an immense sense of pride, however, when she added that he was a good boy. It had been a long time since anyone had said that to him; hopefully it was because Marketa's parents were beginning to enjoy having him around.
Upon Marketa's grand re-entrance, Sirius looked over at Mr. Prochazka, hoping to change the subject. "Miklos, sir? That is a fantastic name!"

Mik straghtened up in his chair and did what was as close to beaming as his seemingly consistent grumpiness could get. "Miklos was my fadder's name, and his fadder's before dat, and his--"
"And every udder fadder before since de family name first came up," Marketa finished for him, with the air of a young lady who had heard the uncondensed version far too many times. "It is de Czech name for Nicholas."
"And de name Prochazka came from my great-great-great-great-great-grandfadder, who was a wanderer until he came to a vilage and dey named him 'Wanderer': Prochazka," added Miklos proudly.

"A lot of family history, then! Same goes with me.
"My middle name - Orion - was after my father. 'Sirius' is after the Dog star. As far as constellations go, Sirius was supposed to be Orion's favorite dog. I suppose I'm aptly named, then... their dog.
"The surname 'Black' fits my family well - the bunch of war-mongering purebloods they are."
Sirius didn't realize he was babbling until near the end, and he instantly regretted sharing his ugly family history in this wonderful place.

Marketa, sensing Sirius's discomfort, raced to his rescue. "It is good ting you left dem, Sirius, really," she said with a supportive nod. Yvonne gurgled in her arms as if to agree, spittle running off of her chin onto an oblivious Mar's dress.
"You have already left home?" asked Claire with raised eyebrows. "You live on your own, or with friends?"

"My mate, James Potter, let me stay over the summer, but I acquired a nice little flat with some of my savings before I started school this year," Sirius said proudly. After all, it had taken him a long time to find a flat that was just right. Of course, he wouldn't call it home until after his school years were over - he preferred to stay with James instead of all alone.

Marketa hadn't known about his flat. She looked over at him with raised eyebrows, and she and Claire bother said "Impressive," at the same time.
Mik, however, was not easily impressed. "You have job?" he asked.

Ahhh, there's the catch, Sirius thought.
"Haven't needed one until now. I start my auror training at the end of this year, though. My grades are high enough that I'll be accepted for sure."

"A Dark-Wizard catcher," Mar informed her father, "sort of like police." Mik raised his eyebrows.
"Sounds dangerous," he commented with a shrug.

"It is... but they're needed badly right now. I think of it as compensation for being born into a Dark family."
Sirius turned thoughtful. He had never realized that that was one of his main reasons for being so attracted to the auror career... Odd.

Marketa was halfway through making some comment or another when Yvonne gripped a strand of hair in her hand and pulled-hard. "I suppose it--OW! Sirius, do you tink you could...?" She couldn't see Yvonne's hand to get her hair out.

"Sure," he replied, leaning over and untangling Yvonne's tiny paw in Marketa's blonde locks. Once it was free, Sirius asked, " 'Kin I hold her again?"

Marketa smiled gratefully; both for having her hair freed and for being able to rest her weary arms for a moment. "Yeah, yeah, but she's been a little fussy, so let me know if you want me to take her back, okay?" she said, hoping that Sirius's way with children would keep Yvonne calm.

"Alright." He smiled gratefully and plucked the child from Marketa's arms. "Come 'ere to Padfoot," he cooed.

"You behave," Mar said to the baby. Yvonne made a birdlike sound as she was traded from her mother's to Sirius's arms. What little hair she had, coppery in certain light but dark the rest of the time, was standing on end from her previous nap. She reached out with curious fingers and hooked them around the neck of Sirius's shirt, tugging and peeking inside with her brown eyes wide.
