Oh, the sea.
Captain breathed deep, not minding as cold water rolled towards him and touched the bottom of his paws. He smelled salt and sand, the faint trace of his mate at home down the shore, and...
It couldn't be. Fur on end he whirled on his hindquarters, spraying heavy sand everywhere as he did so. His senses hadn't fooled him, and now the scars across his eye were beginning to burn. A low, soft hiss began to form in his throat.
"Did you miss me?" The smirk on Ink's face was driving him crazy, and all the while the pain in his eye was building.
"What do you want?" he growled, watching her warily. She snorted, starting to circle past him, talons digging deep scores in the earth. There was a streak of red on one horn; it looked dried as if she had just come from another fight. Some other spots were visible on her pale fur, caked and dried.
He doubted it was hers.
"I had a bit of a scuffle with my son," she stated nonchalantly as if reading his mind, "But what I came here, for, Captain, is you." His brow furrowed as he listened to her.
"You can't kill me." he said slowly, tensing his muscles as he waited for her to strike, "You couldn't then, and you can't now."
With a howl of rare she bolted forward, wet sand flying from beneath her paws. Crouching and darting to the side, Captain avoided her. Barely. He whirled and bounded towards her, teeth bared as he collided hard against her side with a sickening crack. She squealed in pain and bit hard at his shoulder, but his larger size overpowered her, forcing her maw into the ground. Her body thrashed. Captain could have ended it, felt his paw press on the back of her neck...
But he stopped.
As if he had been slapped in the face, the warrior released his enemy and backed away. His chest heaved, eyes wide as he watched her struggle to get to her feet, eyes with a look that could kill. She seethed, growled, spat as she tried and failed with undying hatred to get to him. A stream of red was forming from someplace under her fur, a lump on her side suggesting broken ribs.
"Why?" he whispered, watching with pity as still yet she howled in pain and anger and rage. After another minute of struggle she slowed, breathing hard. Her head hit the sand and for a moment she just lay there, staring straight ahead.
"Because you killed me." she replied. Her voice was different. It had softened. "That day. When he looked at me and died. When he..."
Suddenly sue was quiet again, sobbing into the cold sand. And finally, finally he understood. Flooding back came old, old memories of battles he had long forgotten. A tall, dark male with gentle eyes. A fight for survival. Blood. Blood everywhere. And then...
Her.
Her, bent over the fallen demon's corpse, hurt and pain and rising anger all over her face. There were no tears. When his guard was down she struck and he ran. Ran from a fair fight. He remembered the fear of losing the eye, of being crippled...
"Captain." The voice stirred him from his thoughts. A hand touched his back. It was warm. Slowly he turned his gaze to his side where Capricorn stood, trench coat over her shoulders. The wind whipped at it and battered it around her jeans.
"Capricorn," he murmured in response. She said nothing more, but knelt alongside the now silent Ink.
"Don't touch her." The voice was sharp, and both turned quickly to see who approached. Capricorn's mouth dropped and she stood, hand returning to her own demon's back.
Standing there was someone who looked more like a ghost than human... which he was apparently not. Silvery hair framed his face, pale skin marred by thin, precise scars. What was most disturbing to Captain, however, were his eyes. A deep violet, it was almost as if he were looking at...
"Xys." a hoarse whisper escaped his bonded's throat as she took a step towards this man. It was then that he noticed the small fangs hanging just over his lip, the slightly pointed ears that poked from beneath his hair.
"Xys." she said again. The other vampire was stunned silent, staring back at her as if he, too, was seeing a ghost.
Finally he spoke, uttering a single word in a language that Captain didn't understand. He walked to her, wrapping his arms around her in the most desperate embrace he had ever seen. Capricorn's arms slid around his chest, face disappearing into his shoulder. It was then that he saw it. The same eyes.
This was her brother.
The battle was over.

The sand felt warm under his paws. Juliek hummed softly under his breath, swinging his bangs from his eyes again. It wasn't like Blitzkrieg to be late, but his father sat patiently and waited. Sure enough, the sound of someone padding through the dunes met his ears and the younger demon stepped out from the thick dune grass.
"Hallo," Juliek said quietly as he approached. His son flopped down onto the sand. "Wie geht's, Blitzkrieg?"
"It's fine," he responded, mimicking his father as he swung the hair from his face, "Some stuff came up, not sure what to do. Juliek quirked a brow, head barely craning to get a look at his face.
"Was?" he asked carefully, "Deine Mutter...?"
"No, no." Blitzkrieg responded quickly, "Nothing to do with her."
Silence ensued for a moment. Juliek, seeing his error, cleared his throat.
"V'ell... v'hat is it, then?" he asked, "You get into trouble?"
"I guess you could say that."
"Are you going to tell me, Blitzkrieg?"
The younger adult paused as his father said his name. Something in him liked the say his German accent said the word. To him it sounded so natural.
"Alright..." he started slowly, "How do you feel about grandchildren?" Juliek took a sharp breath. Silence ensued again.
"You did not bring her to meet me..?" he frowned. "Just spring that on me?"
"No, dad." Juliek stopped, catching his anger before it got away from him. "It... well, it wasn't planned." He watched his father's brow quirk and a slight frown appear. "She's good for me. We have things in common."
"Like v'hat?"
"Our mothers hate us, for one." Juliek's frown grew, but he held his tongue. "I think it'll work. I won't make her mistakes, I'm going to be there for them."
"Ich weiss." Juliek muttered, "Ich weiss dass, Blitzkrieg. Don't make our mistakes."
The younger male stood, sand falling from his coat and favoring his scarred leg. "Keep in touch." he said, looking to where his father lay. "I'll see you next week."
Juliek nodded. Before he could look again, his son was gone.
