I want to see that movie so bad. It came to my college, but I was working the night it was playing.

I definitely know that throughout July I will not be able to participate (* selfish emo *) but I guess that's my deal. Being on holiday from 6th Jul-20th July. I particularly wouldn't want to miss another prom/event, I only think I made the one back in 2005, but only just, mooomoooooo~ but yessums.

I absolutely love the fortune telling machine idea. Maybe someone could come up with some fortunes and have them be randomly generated (maybe by use of a web application, I'm sure this is fairly simply coded <_>) or maybe even Sosi could RP Airi as a "under cover" fortune teller (slightly less machine like lol); that may even make some of her predictions or ideas more plausible and give her some recent interaction with Fa'e - that's entirely up to Sosi though. I'm sure Airi has been rped by Sosi in the past and not just Anya? *thinks*

anyway yes, I think the costume ideas are good Risth. I'm hoping Keir will be able to do something and dress quite feline/cat-like hmmmmmmm~ that's one to think about.
Or maybe the unhappy bitching clown, that would be fitting

For personal reasons I'd prefer it to run not during the first week of July, I'll be moving during that time lol XD
I know I'm just one person, but I'd like to attend this year as hopefully Addie will be going and it will be her first (even though she's only a bebeh =)

July and August are kinda bad for me because of Summer Reading Program, but I can totally work around it. I have it mostly planned, so there shouldn't be much stress surrounding it. Addie will be there, even if she can only gum things.

All right, it sounds like the best timing is probably the end of June/beginning of August, potentially mid-August if we had to. That ought to give everyone time to get their stuff together, and still be in the middle of the summer season. I wouldn't want to put it off too much further than that, because then we risk hitting people returning to school while we're trying to do Prom, and that's no good.

I'm thinking that this shouldn't be an entirely formal thing, if we're going to be going for so many activities...? Not that Fa'e shouldn't dress up, but if everyone shows up in super-expensive clothing, there might be some issues. XD

And Iarla... getting conjured...? Pulled out of a hat? XD WAIT WAIT, or he could be in swan-form and come out of the magician's sleeve! "That's one big dove! surprised " *highly entertained by the possibilities*

Ohhh, I like the Tivoli Gardens. Or at least something similar. A boardwalk is cool, but I'm a sucker for pretty architecture.

I also like the idea of the fortune-teller being the entrance for the Prom. XD Maybe we could even attach "events" to certain fortunes, like little mini-plots inside the Prom that Fa'e with certain fortunes might get to go through?

I reallllllly want to be planning Metaplot, but I'm trying not to be evil.... BUT IT WOULD BE SO FUN.... I'd like it to be a little "understated" if we did it, though. Just insofar as Fa'e who didn't want to get caught up, wouldn't have to participate. Maybe confined to a certain room somewhere or something. surprised

I'll be working like a dog for the MAN this summer, come like, June 20th, but all my off time will be spent on internets so. I'll probably be here. Hopefully.

I'm so amused with all of these ideas. Giant stuffed animal, lion tamers, lololol

And I like the whole, fortune teller mini-plot thing. Like, "ON THIS NIGHT YOU WILL.. ummm.. like.... save ____ from death!!" or some crap like that.

I would prefer August, especially if anyone wants art from me blaugh *should have net + stuff set up in new place by then*

Okay loving all the idea. But i agree beginning of August or mid august. Just because July I won't be around all that much. Getting married and all.

Would gypsy be a good thing for carnival? Even if they are not doing the fortune telling?

All right guys, I really don't want to drop the ball on this, but I really need help to make things move.

We have our theme- we've got to plan things out now. We need a described setting, we need to figure out systems and events, we need to decide if we're gonna do any plot points.

Is there anyone that can take any of these things on, or is willing to get in a chat with me and some others so that we can all work on it?
PostPosted: Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:23 am

Arri, just let me know what you need and I would be happy to work on it. I can get on AIM if that's easier.

All right, we've got the official rules for our randomized dates, thanks to Sheepeh!

Chibi Sheepcat
Are you tired of trying to find a last minute date to the prom? Don't know any guys or girls in your neighbourhood? Having trouble asking the love of your life? Can't find a friend to take with you? Don't have any friends? (I kid, I kid).

Well, have we got a solution for you!

Ladies and Gentlemen, PROM NAME HERE proudly presents: Madame Fortune Teller's Love Match event, also known as the Randomized Partners!™ Here is how the game works.

When each Fa'e arrives at the entrance to the gardens they will have to pass through the Fortune Teller's booth. There, they will receive a small card with a number on it. While the Fa'e may come to the Prom with a date, they are no guaranteed to spend the night with them. After the first hour or two of the Prom, a voice will come on the loudspeaker announcing the beginning of the Randomized Partners. Numbers will be called out in pairs, thus dictating the partners for the next hour or so. Then, again after about an hour or so (prom-time), the partners would be switched again via an announcement on the loud speaker. Such would continue until the end of the prom.

For example, say Dustin was given number 3 from the Fortune Teller and Seung received the number 7. After the first hour of the prom was up, the voice would announce "Randomized Pairing time! The pairings are 3 and 7, 2 and 5, etc." Dustin would then have to locate the owner of the number 7 (Seung) and once they met up they would be considered "partners". They would be expected to go about their usual prom business (play games, visit the booths, go on some rides) and then part ways when the next partners were announced.

Rules of the Event:
1) Your number must be visible at all times. Pin it to your shirt, stick it on your forehead, or tuck it in your pants, so long as it can be seen.
2) Please don't eat your numbers/try to get rid of them in any way and don't trade numbers with anybody else. Madame Fortune Teller has put a little spell on them to make sure that the numbers will always find a way back to their rightful owner. They will also glow if hidden. :3
3) Gender is irrelevant when the partners are chosen. There may be some male/female combos, however male/male and female/female combos may also come up. It's all part of the game!
4) Play nicely with your partner. You only have to spend a short amount of time with them, so try to be friendly.
5) Have fun!

How this works OOCly:
Every hour or so prom time (maybe every other day RL time to let people at least get some RP going), random numbers will be generated in a separate thread to dictate the pairings. Once all the Fa'e have been paired off, an "official" post will be posted in the Prom RP Thread, with something along the lines of:

"The loudspeaker crackles, as someone clears their throat before speaking, "It's partner switch time! The new partners for the hour are: Number 1 and Number 2, Number 3 and Number 4, etc"

It is then up the players to finish what they are doing with their character's current partner and then begin the search for their character's new partner. Once they meet up, the RP with the new partner begins.

And we've got the games! <33

Chibi Sheepcat
The Dunk Tank
A neat basket of balls sits next to a wooden sign with the words "Do you think you can soak him?" painted in bold letters. A large tank of water and a moving wooden target sit behind the sign. To dunk the man/woman on the ledge, one simply has to hit the target with enough force to knock it back, thus triggering the lever and removing the ledge. This booth is operated by a witty young man who talks to any person who passes by, whether they're interested or not. Sitting on the dunk tank ledge is (insert character who Kochi will be playing here), who makes sure to cleverly insult those who are trying to hit the target. Do you think you can get him wet?

Pop the Balloon
A rather greasy looking man stands being a large wooden counter with a belt pouch full of darts and a collection of stuffed animal prizes. Behind him is a wall of multicoloured balloons, neatly stapled by their tails to the back board. The object of the game is to break at least five balloons to get a small prize. Breaking at least ten balloons will give you two small prizes, and three small prizes can be traded for a medium sized one. Like most of these games, the darts never fly very well nor are most of them very sharp, making it hard to pop any balloons without throwing the dart rather violently.

Quackers
Underneath a bright blue and yellow painted awning is a large blue kiddy pool filled with water and yellow ducks. Floating among the yellow ducks are the odd red and blue ones. Those who decided to play are given a fishing rod with a magnet on the end. The magnet is attracted to a magnet on the ducks in the pond, and the first duck that sticks to your magnet is the one you keep. The colour of the duck dictates the prize: yellow ducks (small prize), blue ducks (medium prize), and red ducks (large prize). The booth is operated by a brunette in her teens, who chews her gum rather loudly and talks to all customers as if they were three years old.

Fish Wish
At the back of the booth on slowly moving conveyor belt is a row of empty fish bowls. To win one of the adorable little fishies from the kiddy pool on the ground, you have to successfully throw a ping pong ball into one of the empty fish bowls. You get three tries per round, and if you throw the ball out of the booth you have to go and get it. If you are successful, the little Asian man running the game will allow you to pick the fish that you want and give it to you in a clear plastic bag. Just be careful not to drop it!

Roll of Thunder
Several small Skee ball tables are set up near the main power bar, looking as thought they had been hit with too many stray balls. The lights across the top flash the words "Roll of Thunder" followed by a rather pitiful imitation of thunder and an image of lighting. Below it, the words "High Score.... Bob: 200..." scroll across a little bar. The tables are set up in typical Skee ball fashion, with an angled slope and five circles with various point values painted on them (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50). The game costs two quarters, and will dispense nine balls (ten if you kick it hard enough) for the user to bowl up the ramp and into the circles. This booth is operated by a hunched over old man who looks about as old as the machines do. He sits on a small stool near the end of the row of tables, and rarely looks up from his newspaper.

Monkey See, Monkey Do:
Everybody's favourite, the rope ladder climb. Three very unstable ladders are stretched across an inflated landing pad, while very large prizes line the side walls. On the back wall, at the top of the ladder, is a small red button which must be pressed to set off the alarm. The rules of the game are very simple: keep all hands and feet on the ladder, if you fall off or flip you lose, and you must hold the ladder steady when you press the button. The booth is run by a surly looking man with a sharp eye for anyone who breaks the rules. He wears a blue whistle around his neck which he blows whenever he catches someone.

Whack-A-Mole
Who can resist taking a hammer and hitting things over the head with it? Like every good whack 'em game, four machines are lined up with two mallets each, allowing for competitions between players. Whoever beats down the most moles out of all four of the machines (assuming there are four people minimum playing at one time) wins the prize. Otherwise, if you beat the current high score of the machine by a substantial amount then you will also win a small prize. A redhead carrying a large blow-up hammer runs this booth, though she doesn't seem to do much talking.

Unidentified Flying Objects
What is a carnival without a ring toss? Ten brightly painted wooden poles surround a lady in a sequined vest and neon green pants. Around each of her wrists she wears wide coloured rings, which she'll give you when you come over to visit her booth. Three rings per person, and the farther back the pole you land it around the bigger the prize. While she'd tell any man of legal age the prize is a kiss from her, she does have little stuffed toys at her feet as the real prizes.

Shoot 'Em Up
A game for the older members of the prom, the shooting gallery lets players sit at a bench and fire spouts of water at moving targets that look like Western-era bandits. Three guns at the end of the row shoot small balls at the targets to knock the down; however they are only available to teens and up. The winner of the shooting game receives a large cowboy hat, and possibly a plush cow. The booth is run by a blonde dressed like a cowgirl, who seems to enjoy hollering at all the passersby to come and test their skill.

Thor's Hammer
Have you got what it takes to ring the bell? Every man who attends the carnival must try this game to impress their dates, boasts the well-muscled man who runs the ring the bell game. He certainly has no problems showing off whenever nobody is around to try the game, though he will gladly hand off the mallet when someone wants to give it a try. Little blow-up mallet toys are the prize for this game, which is not much considering how high the risk is for a blow to the ego.

Three Bottle Tower
Not up to the shooting game? Rather throw a baseball with all your might instead? The Milk Bottle Tower game involves four little tables, each of them set up with a three-bottle tower. For each round, you are offered five balls, and a chance at knocking over one ore more of the towers. If you knock over all four of the towers, you win the prize. The man who runs the booth rattles off like a sports commentator every time someone starts to throw the ball, which seems to be quite distracting to those who are playing.

The Clown's Corner
The one booth dedicated to the heart of the carnival. Inside this booth, all are welcome to get their face painted as well as receive a complimentary red clown nose. Face painting designs tend to be very carnival themed, ranging from standard clown make-up to the pretty patterns found on intricate juggling pins. The clowns inside also do balloon animals, and can make virtually any animal requested.

Ring Master's Tent
Come one come all and step inside the Ring Master's Tent. This inflatable jumping castle shaped like a circus tent welcomes all children under the age of 12 inside, so long as they first remove their shoes to avoid damaging the castle. A short, whiny little woman stands at the entrance to the tent, and is constantly yelling reminders to the occupants that there is to be no roughhousing, and to stop bouncing so high you'll hurt other people. Unfortunately, there are no prizes for bouncing the best or knocking the most people over.

Nessy and I have just about pounded out the optional plot (think the Prom Games of yesteryear, but a little more serious), and we've made the mule and are currently pulling together all its items. If anyone has any ideas to contribute, we're still open to tweaks, but there's not too much time to fix them up in. Once the mule's accepted into the Guild, I'll be making a skeleton thread layout and PMing invitations.

All right, I think that this is gonna be the last update for the day:

Quinny's stepped up and is going to be done the banners for the Prom thread. We've decided that the main thread is gonna be hosted on the forums so that people can use Thread Subscription to keep track of it, and a "Parade" thread will be made in the Guild to allow people to show off their Prom art. Assuming that Gaia enables trades before Prom begins, the mule will be all set up and ready to go.

I think that's the most of it for now. <3 Thanks to everyone that's been helping!
