((I think it's time to call it quits on RPing River, Xinados, and Amerus hatching. It's been two months. Time to hatch Syoto. Linnea's siblings are now adults. Woohoo! So this takes place some time later.))
Malachite gazed at the blue and black egg that she had found in another corner of the same cave Amerus, River, and Xinados had hatched in. Some caves were immensely popular for laying eggs; obviously, this one had been used by several different families at different times. Tucked away in a secluded side cave, this one had sat for untold ages. {I only hope this one is better than River!} she hoped fervently.
((Edit: Oh yeah, and since River is an adult here, Atum and Pinecrest are also members of the Pack))

Syoto growled to himself in his egg. He'd been trapped inside this prison for far too long... It was time to begin his reign as the dragon king! He would burst from his egg dramatically to find himself surrounded by loyal servants, bringing him only the finest, choicest meats. From then on he would proceed to rule over all the dragons, as his descendants would do, and most likely as his ancestors had done...
It was time!!!
With a mighty... Baby dragon squeel... (It couldn't really be called a roar) He kicked and lashed his tail against the sides of the egg, sending tiny egg fragments in all directions.
{I am Syoto!!!} he roared - or tried to anyway, {Bow down to me!} His tiny stomache growled. {But first, bring me food!} He crawled around on the stone floor, making tiny growling noises. Not exactly the palace I imagined, he thought to himself, But I suppose they had to hatch me in a secluded place to avoid being mobbed by all of my adoring subjects...
Suddenly, he realized in humiliation that the lower half of his egg shell was still on; his legs and tail had only punched some holes through the flimsy shell...
{GAH!!!!" he roared, "SOMEONE HELP ME OUT OF THIS THING!!!}

((Psst! Remember brackets {} instead of quotation marks "" !))
Malachite leapt backwards as the egg exploded. Her first response was one of surprise at the arrogant hatchling and the fact that it had decided its name as quickly as she had. Her next reaction was one of motherly care, which was soon swamped by cold logic. If I do that, he'll think he can order me around. Besides, we don't have any food right now! {Sorry, Syoto, but Cart and Sfor haven't gotten back from hunting.} Remembering who they were hunting with, she rolled her eyes. {And River's with them. Hopefully Sfor will be able to--}
In a foul fit of temper, Sfor stormed into the cave. {River, you moron!} she snarled. {If you had just listened to me--}
River stomped in after Sfor. {You'd what?!} she snapped. {If you hadn't come up with that ridiculous idea to try to outrun the deer--}
{Enough,} Cart sighed wearily. {River, we've told you a thousand times. You don't challenge a deer to mortal combat--especially not a stag!}

((Gah! Sorry! xd Fixed it, lol.))
{Bah, no food?} Syoto growled, struggling out of the remainder of his egg shell and stomping it to pieces in anger, {Obviously, you servents weren't sufficiently prepared for my arrival. Pitiful. Just Pitiful. I expected more on my arrival.}
He started in surprise when three more dragons entered the cave, two of them appearing to be angry at each other. One of them appeared to have challenged a stag to fight...
{I hope you managed to bring me some meat} he sniffed {and I'll have you know that if I had been there, I could've challenged an army of stags and beaten them... Now what are you talking about?}

Cart was taken aback by the bold hatchling. {Servants?} he repeated frostily. {We are not your servants, little one. If there is anyone to blame for our lack of food, it is River.} He glared at the teen. {And I plan not to let you be in any situation in which you are forced to fight a stag until you are old enough to actually hold your own in combat. A teenager, at the least.} He shook his head. {Sorry, little one. I'm not at my best when I'm hungry. My name is Cartography; I am the leader of our pack.} He turned to Malachite. {Malachite, maybe you could take Pinecrest and Atum...?}
Malachite shook her head. {No way, Cart. I'm the worst deer-hunter in this pack! Well, besides Atum and River. I can try...but not with Atum. I'm sorry, I just can't work with him.}
Sfor nuzzled her lover. {We can go out hunting. I still have some energy--between Pinecrest, you, and me, I'm sure we can rustle up some food for the hatchling here.} With a nod to Cart, she and Malachite left the cave to find Pinecrest.

Syoto sniffed, examining the red dragon that dared to call himself a leader. {You must be joking} he frowned, {If anyone is going to be the leader of anything, it shall be I}
He frowned at the other two dragons that were conversing. {I really don't care who does it, as long as somebody brings me dinner}

This egg shell was far from cooperating. Quite the opposite, in fact, it seemed to be thickening each time Ithnan shoved against it. His greatest opposition, this egg! At least, that was as far as his narrow mind would allow him to think; this egg was to serve as his greatest foe, and then- well, he wasn't quite sure what would happen afterward, so he would just push that thought to the back of his head.
Finally, he made a movement large enough- that he sent himself toppling backward, hitting the wall of the cave. He felt the egg crack up the side and grinned as best he could, dedication shining in his bright blue eyes. He pawed and kicked and thwacked his tail at the crack until the shell finally gave way. Not wasting a moment, he shoved his head up through it, front paws breaking away the pink and black egg that was trapping him within the cramped space.
After falling forward and finally breaking out of an egg shell that Ithnan believed was far too thick, the hatchling stood blinking. It was bright. It was very bright, in comparison to the inside of his egg. He squinted against the small amount of sunlight creeping into the cave, and tried to make out a few of the things around him; there were other figures that were slowly gaining form, one around his size, the others much bigger. He squeaked softly from his corner, trying to get his eyes to open a bit further, but the light was a bit too bright for his tastes...

Cart snarled and stood over the blue hatchling. Something about it irritated him. I wish Achat hadn't left! I could really use him to bring this whelp in line! {And why is that, little one?} he asked, trying--and failing--to conceal his temper. {For your information, I founded this pack. I am one of the eldest dragons in this pack--third eldest, in fact. It was my idea, my work. I have worked hard to make this dream become a reality. You are--} He stopped at the faint squeaking from the pink egg they had found in yet another part of the cave. That's when trouble strutted into the cave with golden legs.
Atum sauntered into the cave, a salmon wriggling in his jaws. {G'd 'ftern'n, C'rt. L'k't f'sh c't!} He spat out the fish. {Look at the fish, old man,} he snapped when Cart failed to face him. Why doesn't anyone respect me?! I spend the afternoon on the riverbank fishing, and does anyone say, {Good job, Atum!}? No! Stars above, my paws ache, I'm wet all over...and now look! We've got hatchlings. They'd better not be as irritating as Pinecrest...

Syoto was about to respond to the red peasant's lecture when yet another dragon strutted into the cave, a fish in his jobs... Something about the dragon annoyed Syoto, but he decided to leave him be for the moment.
{Food!} Syoto growled, leaping over and trying to gulp down half the fish. {Bah!} he spat out the fish, grumbling {Some one chew this for me! My royal jaws need to rest...}
Suddenly he noticed that another egg - previously unnoticed by him - had hatched, and out had come a pink dragon. A girl? ... No, no, this one was a male. And he hadn't gotten any egg shell stuck to him. {You shall be my servant!} Syoto declared importantly. {Because no one else around here seems to be very cooperative...}

Atum recoiled in horror as the blue hatchling lunged forward and grabbed half of his fish. {MY FISH!!!} he shrieked. When the hatchling spat out his fish, he snatched it up. {You twisted little brat!} He swung his paw at the hatchling. {I'll give your jaws a rest, maggot!}
Cart sighed. I'm between a rock and a hard place now... He swung his tail at Atum, smacking him lightly on the face. {Knock it off, Atum.} He then struck the hatchling a blow across the head. {You bit it, you eat it. We don't chew for other dragons around here, little one.}

Syoto was forced to dodge first an attempted blow from the golden-legged dragon, and then found himself being hit on the head by the Red One's tail.
{Fine} he growled, jumping up and grabbing the fish again from the jaws of the Golden-legged one. {But this is no way to treat hatchlings... let alone your new king! And you didn't even have any food prepared right away... Pitiful}
He dragged his half of fish into a corner and struggled to sink his tiny fangs into the fish meat.

Ack! Too many things were happening far too fast for the hatchling to be comfortable with them. There was another dragon and a shiny, wriggling mass of muscles and such that he later caught was a fish [as he was still unable to see all that clearly] and a commanding voice from the one his own age, and moving about and yelling and squeaking and all-around confusion.
So the pink dragon simply contented himself by flopping down where he'd previously stood, sitting and watching as the events unfolded. When a moment of silence occurred where he felt he could interject, he stretched his neck a bit toward the starred dragonling, blinking his blue eyes. His servant? Well, he seemed to be quite demanding, and quite a leader, though Ithnan remained unsure of whether that was because he truly was the king, or he simply had an over-inflated ego. So he just pulled his head back a bit, glanced at the other two, then back at the blue one. {Erm... yes sir?}

Atum glared at Cart and tossed the pink one the rest of the fish. {If anyone's a king here, it's me,} he snapped. Angrily, he stalked out of the cave.}
Cart was taken aback by the hatchling. {King?! Dragons don't have kings! Not like there are enough of us dragons left in the world to merit it...or would you like to be the ruler of fifty or so subjects, little one?} We dragons have never had rulers, and we don't need 'em! No dragon would be good enough! Suddenly, an image of black fur covering strong muscles, silver fur wriggling down a straight back and around the long and heavy tail popped into his mind. Except Old Silverback...Great North Star, I miss him! And Khala and Jabari...I wonder what they're all doing now...

Syoto grinned as he managed to tear off a bite of the fish meat. His toothy smile grew larger when the Pink Hatchling acknowledged him as his superior.
{Really, you should address me as 'Your Highness', but 'Sir' will do for now} he told the little hatchling happily. {Now, what is your name, so I may address you as something other than Servant. It will be tiring for me to call you that for your entire life...} His eyes brightened. {Unless your name is servant?} he prodded hopefully, knowing that it was unlikely, but still...
He glared at the golden-legged dragon as he left the cave. A rival for the throne? Then he turned his attention to the red one. He blinked as the older dragon told him about how few dragons there were.
{Well, then, I shall be the first Dragon King} he strutted around his corner of the cave pompously, {And fifty dragons... Not exactly a royal army... Not even enough to be all my royal servants... But it will have to do for now... Someday, my kingdom will have multiplied in numbers! And we shall be recognized as a powerful nation all over the world!}
He poked his tongue around in his mouth, trying to dislodge a stray fish bone.

The pink hatchling grinned when he was tossed the fish meat, and made a mental note to show the golden-legged one a bit more respect than the others seemed to be showing him, including his... leader? Well, he supposed that's what the other hatchling was to him now. Ah, well; either way, he was all Ithnan knew a leader to be. Baby teeth tugged and pulled and tore pieces of flesh off of the fish, watching the other dragons as they conversed. Or... 'argued' was probably a better word for it.
When asked for his name, the small dragon blinked a moment, and forced the gears in his mind to turn a bit, before it came to him. {Ithnan} he replied with a blink of blue eyes. {Sorry t-to disap- disappoint you, m-my Lord.} He replied, grumbling a bit at how much trouble his voice was having getting out of his mouth and pulling more meat off his fish. He went from sitting to laying down, paws pressing the fish to the ground and trying to tear off the stubborn fish bits that really didn't seem to want to come off, growling in the high-pitch that he'd carry for quite a while after hatching.
