:::Cora was still trying to straighten out in her head how someone who was required to enforce the law could be anything less than physcially sound, but she napped out of it soon enough:::
Suspect...suspected, you mean they do not know who was reposable for...
:::She watched the screen again, and realized that Alex said it was a homicide...double homicide. Cora became very quiet suddenly, watching with dreaded curiosity:::

*The show hit a commercial break and Alex got up and went to the kitchen*
Be right back, Cora. Checking on dinner.

:::Cora was utterly startled when suddenly everything broke from all previous content, even Alex walked away. This was so disorienting, she thought, but she cleared her throat and tried to keep her head straight:::

*Alex came back in and sat down as the detectives in the show began to interrogate the witness*
Now they try to catch the suspect in a falsehood. Get him to confess, or if that fails get evidence that will lead to his conviction. The human mind is a fickle thing. Guilt runs deeper than anyone ever expects.

:::She's quiet now, very concerned about what was going on in the television. This was terrible...all of it was. Her job was NOTHING like this...:::

*The show changes over to the D.A.s office. A team of three lawyers discuss the case and legal precedents, based on all the information gathered*
Now this... is similar to my job. I have to put all the information together and present it to the court in a way that proves that the offender actually commited the crime, so that he can be punished. Hopefully, it can serve as a warning to other people, so that they don't commit like crimes.

:::She doesn't really look at Alex as he explains this, but she hears him. At least this portion of the show made a little more sense. They were using logic and reason here...instead of guess work, interrogation and accusation. Her shoulders seemed to loosen a little, but the signs of unease didn't vanish from her entirely still:::

*Alex points as the court hearing convenes*
That guy with the crooked nose, he does what I do. The sneaky looking guy is a criminal defense lawyer. He tries his best to prove that the criminal actually didn't commit the crime.

:::She nods this time, still watching intently. She was a little appauled by the way the defense lawyer tried to convince the people listening that the man in custody was innocent, when he was obviously guilty. The show had done a good job of swaying the audience's opinion on the matter, but Cora could not take notice of this kind of influence. She was just entirely not used to anything but the truth. All this debate and confusion was really starting to upset her...but she couldn't stop watching either:::

*The jury returns with a verdict and the judge hands it out. The criminal is found guilty and is sentanced to life without parol. The credits start to roll, and Alex gets up again and heads to the kitchen*
I think dinner should be ready, soon. Cora, would you like some more wine?

:::At this she nodded verily. Though she still didn't say much. In all honesty she was glad it was over. Cora just hoped she'd be able to keep her mind off of it at nights. That was the worst time she noticed...when you didn't want to think about anything bad:::

So, what did you think? Its not the greatest in terms of realism, but its dramatic.

:::She takes a good long sip of wine before continuing:::
I... I have trouble understanding this time...and how humans functioned in such a lack of order. It is disillusioning... :::She paused::: At the same time, I don't believe that my culture had the right idea either...in fact, I'm thinking that I wouldn't be alive if I was still there. But, how people can go one when things are in a state such as this, is beyond my comprehension...

Its because we have no other choice. We don't have anything better, so we HAVE to carry on as is. But we keep striving to better ourselves. I think that is mankinds greatest achievement. The neverending struggle to reach perfection.

:::But at this comment Cora had finally heard enough. She closed her eyes, and tried so hard to block it out, to keep it from happening, but she just couldn't anymore. Tears began falling from the corner of Cora's eyes. It was that very concept... the struggle for perfection, the brought humans to the state in which Cora had lived for nearly all her life now, save the time spent in the brink:::
