that's debatable. Have you heard much of Clapton's newer stuff? I saw him in concert last year, and it's mostly blues stuff he plays these days.

he certainly has a great blues influence, but the majority of the clapton catalog is *rock*

True, but now he plays blues. And his roots were in the blues, so I think calling him a blues guitarist is reasonable, though you could ALSO call him a rock guitarist.

I don't think I've ever heard anybody call SRV rock, though.

I suppose it depends on your definition, but the majority of his catalogue is generally considered to be blues or blues-rock (which is the term I prefer, since he generally straddles the line in my opinion)

blues-rock is a form of rock that is taking the music back to its blues-based roots, so calling him blues-rock is, in effect, calling him rock
