They were so scared when Voldemort and the Death Eaters showed up, all they could do is hide under the cloak the little wizard had nicked from his dad's closet.
A Death Eater spotted them, and they grabbed them up before they even had a chance to run.

Voldemort looked right at the boy with his bright red eyes, and asked him if he loved his muggle friend.

But the little wizard looked right back at him, and even though he was scared, he said, "Yeah I do."
Voldemort laughed and drew his wand out, pointing it at the boy's muggle friend. He was going to cast a killing curse--

--but right at that moment, my dad and a couple of Aurors showed up. The little boy bit the Death Eater that had been holding him and ran through the spells between the Aurors and Death Eaters and tried to pull his friend away from the other Death Eater.
"Let go!" he shouted, "Let go!"
And before my dad or any of the Aurors could stop him, the Death Eater hit the little wizard with a spell -- he toppled over, and his muggle friend broke free to go to his aid.

Yup.
The Death Eaters and Voldemort ran away, and the Aurors took the wizard boy and his friend to St Mungo's.
When they grew up, they got married.
