The tears were threatening to begin rolling from Aya's vibrant blue eyes as nothing answered her whispers but Kana's silence. Lacing her fingers through his own, she found his skin to be cold. The young genin did not lift her head when she heard Konpaku's growl and kept it focused on Kana waiting for those christmas colored eyes to open. Squeezing his hand tightly, she looked to her right to see a young man kneel down next to Kana and apply an ointment on his burns. Aya could recognize that it was the burn gel they made at home. She wanted to open her mouth and help this medic by telling him what she had analyzed thus far, but her aching heart just wouldn't let her speak. As he asked Maya and Baki to help bring Kana to the medical area, Aya took a deep breath and calmed herself down before turning to Maya and Baki. There was no more strength left in her to hide that she was worried. A plea was written on her face for Maya to help, even though she did not like the boy. Aya thought of Maya as a close friend, rivaling up to a family member. She knew the girl would help... As Huwei introduced himself and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, Aya rose up. "Mhm," Aya hummed unable to really say anything as she understood that she was to stand up and walk with Huwei to the medical ward he spoke of.

Baki pricked his ears up and growled softly at the female, grinning. So she wasn't evil or made of stone after all. Padded softly, he stood shoulder to shoulder with her, his head level with her as he flicked his ears back and forth, waiting for Maya to lay the unconscious smokey boy in whatever manner she thought was fit. Baki's tail swept the ground unceremoniously, and rolling his shoulders, he stood patiently.

Maya gave Aya a small, crooked grin, understanding what the girl was so worried about. She shook her head and sighed. "Deep breaths, Aya-chan...the fireball's alive, just wounded. You'd think all the fire inside him would make him fireproof," she said, the joke light, but her intention obvious - Maya sucked at trying to make people feel better, but she did try, and that, at least, should be worth something. She lifted Kana with slightly effort (the unconscious were always heavy, it was some sort of rule), and studied the felines. Deciding easily what was going to be done, Maya laid Kana's body so that his head was cushioned in Baki's mane, his shoulders mostly on Baki and his lower back and butt resting on Konpaku. Maya carried his legs easily and clicked her tongue, looking up at the purple-haired male and blinking, waiting for him to get moving.

"I know..." Aya whispered to herself and then nodded her head at Maya's comment. As the girl walked alongside the felines, she kept her fingers holding on tightly to Kana's over sized shirt. Just holding onto something of Kana's made the girl feel a little better, but she couldn't help but feel guilty for Kana's state. The two almost always fought together, alongside as partners. A third teammate had never been a good factor for the two because their teamwork was on such a high level. If Aya had been with Kana and they had been facing whatever enemy it as that managed to take Kana out, Aya was sure he wouldn't be in this terrible of a condition. Taking a deep breath, Aya tightened her hold on Kana's shirt and followed Huwei to the medical ward her eyes tearing up once again. Her blue eyes turned down to the ground to watch Huwei's feet. It was hard to look up at all and feel confident...

User Image Huwei lead the squad to a very clean white stoned room in the medical wing. There the medics took Kana and cleaned him up, putting him in fresh clothes; dark brown slacks, a light tan shirt and a long red jacket was hung up next to his bed if he should wake and feel cold. While Huwei examined him, he allowed for Aya to be in the room along with Baki and Maya if they chose. "He seems rather fine," Huwei said with a smile. "I just have to go check on some test results from looking at his interior structure. Maya, would you come with me?" Huwei asked nicely to the girl as he began to walk out of the room in the direction of the lab. Huwei could see that Aya, being a medical shinobi would be the preferred person to bring with to the lab, but Huwei always put a human's emotions before work. He could tell the girl wanted to be by the red head's side.

Once he was out of earshot of Aya, Huwei began speaking to Maya and Baki. "We have a special lab here that can take picture's of one bone's structure to look for fractures and breakage. I thought it best to bring you two along, because I may not be able to return to the room. If you tell Aya what's wrong with Kana, then she should be able to take care of it. I wouldn't want to pull her away from him in case he wakes," Huwei said with a smile as he rounded the corner to the lab. The room was dark and there were illuminated screens, where Huwei took pictures and set them in front of the screens. The light gave a great view to the dark pictures that represented the bones of Kana's body. "Looks like he has a broken Tibia," Huwei said as he wrote down things quickly. "Ulna is fractured... Radius is shattered... All the Phalanges in his left hand are broken... His head seems to be intact though... Not a fracture in there at all!" Huwei said with a smile towards Maya as a nurse came into the room.

"Dr. Song... We need you down on the Arena floor. Several guards were injured," the woman said.

"Oh!" Huwei said as he handed the clipboard to Maya with only one thing written down. "Make sure you make a list of everything I mentioned for Aya!" Huwei said as he disappeared quickly, not knowing that the poor Tategami had just learned to read last year let alone analyze parts of the body and write it down!

Konpaku stayed close to Baki as all the humans rushed around to get the human fireball situated. Konpaku was free to roam wherever she wished, but she wasn't sure if the humans would like Baki doing the same. Just to keep Baki from being separated from his girl, Konpaku stayed close and even followed them to the lab where she sat next to Baki while Huwei spoke. Konpaku hadn't been in the medical ward before. She had always been taken care of in San's room. Walking over to a skeleton frame, she smelt it, noticing that it looked like bone, but wasn't bone at all... Konpaku let out a displeased growl as she sat down to watch Maya use the clipboard that Huwei almost always had in his hand.

Aya didn't have any energy in her to marvel at the beautiful white stone and decorations on the walls of the medical ward where they were all being taken. It was almost as if the life had been drained out of the girl. The moment she was allowed to see Kana after they cleaned him up, Aya nearly shushined over to his bed and knelled at his side. There were bandages over burns, cuts and scrapes and the clothes he was dressed in looked like a spare set of Huwei's. Aya felt just how close to death Kana had been and wondered what it had felt like. She wanted him to wake up already though! The girl was worried and didn't know a thing to do in order to wake him up! Sitting on the side of his bed, Aya just sat there and tried not to cry. If he had gotten bitten by something, Aya could make an antidote. If he had gotten cut up, Aya could heal him! But he had gotten injured far beyond Aya's ability to help. She wished that she was as strong as her mother...

Baki pricked his ears, though not at Huwei's words. The pictures....hmmm... Baki sniffed, and though he couldn't smell the meat that was supposed to be on those yummy looking bones, he did notice that a few of them didn't look how they were supposed to - mostly because they looked like breaks that he would himself inflict on an opponent, and the cracks were usually treated... unless it was dinner, they they were cracked further, because the marrow inside was delicious. Baki licked his muzzle and swung his tail, shoving Maya almost forcefully and pressing his nose against a picture of what looked like a hind leg, licking it and almost tasting the marrow inside. But...blegh! It tasted slippery and false! Grrr... Baki growled and tried again, but snorted. Why, there wasn't marrow at all in these false bones!

Maya sputtered as Baki pushed her, frowning for a moment. Her thoughts were jumbled - what in the hell was that purple-headed Huwei talking about? What in the name of kami was she supposed to tell Aya!? Eh..? Baki was licking one of the pictures! Maya giggled and went to tug him away from the charts, and hesitated. There was something...off about it. Maya frowned again. It was a picture of a leg, that much she knew, but it wasn't put together the right way. Part of it slanted...Maya squinted, making out the small notes on the picture. Ti..bia. She shrugged, made a note of the word, and then scribbled, 'Kana's leg is busted between his knee and ankle'.

Baki was distracted by Konpaku's growls, and knocked over another picture. It was one of Kana's head, which was perfectly healthy, but it made the lion wonder just what was encased in it. Obviously there wasn't much in there to protect, he was so stubborn, but perhaps the answer to Kana's hardheadedness was in the picture... Baki's growl rumbled joyfully as he amused himself with his ponderings, though he realized he wasn't helping Maya very much by fooling around... He growled at himself, shaking out his mane and realizing that the girl had already figured out the next piece of what was broken. Almost pouting, the lion pricked his ears, determined to help her find the last clues to the puzzle.

Maya sighed as Baki knocked over a picture, and went to pick it up before a picture of Kana's hand caught her eye. Part of it was cracked the same way his leg was, contorted and shaped wrong. Maya tilted her head to read Huwei's neat, but tiny, writing. Ul...Ulma? Ulno? Gah! Maya scribbled down another note under her first. 'Kana's arm is cracked between his wrist and elbow'. Jeez, Kana was going to be in itty bitty pieces by the time Maya managed to figure out everything that Huwei had told her. She held in a small chuckle, wondering how many pieces Kana would have to be in before he burst into flames like a phoenix and reassembled himself.

As Hanton guards evacuated the panicked spectators, a lanky man walked amongst the crowd, following the masses of confused citizens towards their unknown safe house. His head turned in the sea of turned heads with each sudden din, but Shinichi's mind was elsewhere, buried beneath the avalanche of rubble that had crushed Kana underneath. While the crowd turned a corner, he slipped behind a pillar and stealthily made his way towards where the Shimagakureans had gone. Compared to other countries he had visited as a youth, Hanton's security was surprisingly tight, perhaps even on the verge of announcing that there was something to hide in the traditionally closed off land. He eluded the outer guards layer by layer until there were only those protecting the medical ward to deal with. "I am the Kage of Shimagakure. I demand to see my shinobi," the man announced with authority, taking a step forwards and daring the guards to stop his towering, scarred figure. He made no excuse for where he had been during the fights and instead stared inside the doorway to the infirmary, giving off the aura of dangerous impatience. From where he had watched the fights, Shinichi had only heard rumors about what had occurred and so kept his suspicions under check until he could gather more information about the situation.

Baki turned towards the pictures again, and right next to the picture Maya was looking at was another of what looked like Maya's arm. Well obviously it wasn't Maya's but it was an arm nonetheless. But...hmm... instead of licking the picture again, because it tasted gross, Baki licked Maya's arm on the opposite end of her ulna, on the radius area, nipping lightly and realizing how hungry he was. He growled softly and licked her arm again, sitting and then pointedly looking at the picture, then her arm. Baki's tail swung easily from side to side; he was sure that this last picture meant this part of the arm, but was he too late? Hmm...

Baki

Maya scratched Baki's ears and watched as he took note of the last part of Kana that was, as she so eloquently put it, 'busted'. Hmm...it was almost like a shadow of the ulnera part...ulna...ulmer? Ulma? Crap! Whatever! The other half of his arm was busted too, so Maya jotted that down. 'Everything between Kana's wrist and elbow is busted, and so are a few of his left fingers'. Maya pursed her lips. That was everything that Huwei had said right? Maya tried to unscramble her brain, but all she could remember was fuzzy memories of Huwei mentioning Uma Thurman and her radio and a t-bone. Doctors were weird sometimes, so Maya shrugged and scratched Baki's ears. "I think that's everything right?"

The nurses in the medical ward along with the lower ranking guards could hardly stammer words out to the ghost of a man that demanded to see those from Shimagakure. A nurse merely lifted her finger and pointed in the direction of the room that Kun 'Kumo Kana had been taken too. Another guard was whispered to, being told to go get the empress. The man looked highly dangerous, but there wasn't a soul in the medical wing that would be able to put up a hand to him.

Baki caught sight of a picture he wasn't sure Maya had looked over, and with great decisiveness, promptly sat on his butt and took Maya's hand in his mouth, simply hold it there with his ears pricked up high. All these bones felt different than the ones in the picture looked, so there was obviously something wrong with Kana there, because Maya was perfect in every way that had to do with keeping her body in top physical condition. The last time there had been harm done to it before these chuunin fights had been due to leech poison....Baki shuddered; even her opponent from the exam hadn't been anything close to that brutal. Maya had just been devoid of energy when he found her, nothing like how Konpaku had left him. Oooh, speaking of the panther...

Baki turned around and blinked, swinging his tail in a friendly manner and bowing his head slightly. He had never really properly thanked her for her fight, though it still seemed like a slight joke to him. But then, he didn't really grasp the concept of the tournament, he supposed.

Baki

Maya smiled at Baki, and noded. "Yeah, I got those. Fingers busted too. Boy, Kana's a mess, isn't he Baki? You did a good job helping Aya and me move those rocks. An' you and the lady did a good job finding him in the first place. Konpanku, ne?" she said, addressing the panther with her last statement and giving her a slight, very small smile. She had noticed who's partner she was, and while Maya didn't particularly like the woman, she held no real hatred towards animals, who, in her opinion, were only bad when they were brainwashed into following orders like mindless zombies, and felines as a general rule were much too smart to submit to that. Baki was smarter than she was, for kami's sake! She laughed at herself mentally, knowing that while it was true, she matched and even surpassed Baki in sheer physical strength. Tilting her head, Maya returned to the other room, Baki following her, and hesitated, but gave Aya the chart on which she had been taking notes. She hoped Aya would be able to understand, but she didn't doubt at all that the girl would be able to fix Kana.

"Offer's still open if you need chakra, Aya-chan..."

PostPosted: Sat Jul 25, 2009 12:20 am

It was about time. Shinichi tracked the man sent to retrieve the empress of Hanton with his eyes, wanting to stop the guard from making too big a scene and taking the empress away from where she was needed. At the same time, he realized that the Shimagakureans were also her best chance for stopping whatever had caused the attacks. The tournament was probably not the best secret in the world so any enemy of Shimagakure could be suspect. On the other hand, the attacks seemed targeted towards general mayhem, rather than strictly for assassinating Shimagakureans. The Kage shook his head of all the questions and forced himself to focus on the present situation: Kana. His long legs quickly eliminated the distance between the door and Kana's bed, where he heard Maya say something about offering Aya chakra. A quick scan of the two standing fighters showed injuries, Maya more so than the girl with medical knowledge. Baki was also injured in some places. However, as soon as Kana came into sight, the girls' gashes became scratches. He could see where the worst of the rocks had crushed him, but there was hope. "You did a great job saving his life," he muttered to Aya, eyes becoming hard as he crept closer to Kana, almost as if afraid that he'd further damage the teenager. "Hear that, Kana? Don't let your partner's efforts go to waste. There's a lot of mayhem in the city right now and I know you'd regret not being able to help Hanton. So stop acting like you're dying and get up!" he ordered. Someplace in the back of his mind referenced how the best way to wake up was not by a gentle lullaby, but loud, angry roosters.

Shinichi glanced over at the diagram Maya held in her hands, then at Aya. He didn't feel as strong a chakra pulse from Aya as during the war and Maya's chakra was as weak as always. "Aya," he said, brow knotted sternly, "Sukotto might have sustained some injuries and you're the only one from Shimagakure with healing ability. Maya needs her chakra in case we're needed to stop the attackers, but I have plenty. You won't be able to hurt me with your technique, I promise." He held out his hand, nodding for her to take all she needed.

Aya couldn't sit still after everyone left the room. She was constantly switching her seating position. Her hand was rubbing against Kana's, changing angles to hold it in a different way every ten seconds. Many thoughts were going in and out of Aya's mind. Was it really worth losing Kana to become chunin? Did Aya really wanted to pursue becoming a Jounin? After the countless deaths she had witnessed on the battlefield, after all the friends she had lost on missions, this one mission she had nearly lost the closest person that held almost all of her heart. The tears were welling up. What would she had done if she lost Kana? There was no answer to that question! If there was no Kana, there wouldn't be an Aya! He was her second half! A tear began falling down Aya's cheek just as a clipboard was handed over to her. Quickly, Aya took her hand and wiped away the tears that were falling. "Thanks, Maya-chan..." the girl managed to say as she took the clipboard and read what was written down. She could tell that it was Maya's handwriting and not the writing by Huwei, especially by the words that were written. A soft smile grazed Aya's mouth as she read what was there. She couldn't heal his wounds.

Aya's smile saddened as she read what Maya had written. Aya was a medical shinobi, but she wasn't as advanced as her mother. She could heal cuts, bruises and burns, but anything beyond the skin and tissue was out of her ability. She wanted to cry due to the helplessness she was beginning to feel, but once she heard Shinichi's voice, for some reason it evoked anger. The girl's gloved hands gripped the clipboard tightly, the white knuckles underneath being hidden by the black gloves. "He hit his head!" Aya snapped as Shinichi ordered the Kun 'Kumo to wake up. Her blue eyes were icy and cold, almost like the stare her mother gave to disruptive students who were testing her patience. His stern look towards her just seemed to ignite that fury that had just been evoked.

"It doesn't matter if I take your chakra!" Aya shouted, standing up from the beside and throwing her arm out at Shinichi. "His bones are broken! I can't heal bones! Only my mother can! I wish she was here instead of you! All you do is destroy things and cause people to die!" the girl shouted out of rage and anger as she threw the clipboard across the room. Her small body was shaking from her outburst. Aya had never been angry before. Aya had never raised her voice to shout words of hate. It was a new emotion that had fully taken over. To anyone else, it would seem that Shinichi had hardly done anything to upset the girl, but the suppressed emotions that Aya kept locked in were fully agitated in her emotionally vulnerable state. He wanted her to go tend to Sukotto? There was no chance she was leaving Kana's side. The fair face that was always smiling and had a optimistic glow was burning bright red like Kana's fireballs. "I can't wait for Ichi to come back," Aya said, insulting Shinichi and turning away from him to sit back down at Kana's side. She was fuming and holding the hand that wasn't broken tightly.

There would be no chance that Aya would do anything that Shinichi would request from her. He had been there when the explosions went off, but had he been the one to swoop down and stop the samurai from slicing Maya and Baki in half? No. Had he been the one to stop the explosions from burying Kana? No. With her breathing steadying now, Aya took one last deep breath. "Leave me alone," she said to Shinichi without turning to him to speak and without taking her eyes off of Kana.

Baki's loud growl filled the room, and Maya's own eyes were narrowed.

"Shinichi-sama, you can't honestly think any human could wake up from those wounds and be perfectly fine, do you? His bones are busted - it's better he's not awake to feel that pain. Even if he did wake up, he can't do anything - he won't even be able to walk," Maya spat softly, shaking her head. Really, sometimes the man was just thick - Maya was stupid, but Shinichi was more of a brute than she was sometimes. He could be subtle, smart, and understanding when he wanted to be, but when he needed to be, he wasn't. Maya turned to him and crossed her arms. "If Sukotto's still walking, you could have healed him Shinichi. Don't you know the healing jutsu? And I can still fight, and so can Baki - Aya can't fight without Kana. If you make her leave, she'll be too worried about Kana to fight properly. Why do you think both Baki and me forfeited our rounds at this stupid exam? We fight together, or not at all. I can't fight alone knowing somewhere Baki might be hurt." Maya let out a half feral grin, and tilted her head. "Besides, why are you wasting time here instead of fighting like everyone else? Too rough for you out there, Shinichi-sama? We should have never come to the Earth country - I hate it here, even though I was born here." Maya half turned towards Aya, and hesitated - but Baki didn't.

The great beast nuzzled Aya's leg gently, licking her arm and rumbling softly, understanding the girl's pain in part and trying his best to reassure her. He turned back towards Maya, shoving her towards the exit, as if to tell her, 'There are plenty more bodies out there that need to die'. He was eager to go and finish the job.
