Edward Elric. Now why oh why did that title seem to ring a bell? A distant bell he could barely hear, but a bell, nonetheless. It was probably his imagination. Or he was getting influenced by Deadpool, who had insisted he came from a comic book! A comic book of all things. Sure, he might have known about past lives, and didn't doubt the fact that Wade was previously a human, but...he has his doubts still.

"...Size?" He was reminded of when he used to tease Brett about his height, simply because the kid was the youngest in the school and also the shortest. From the way his team mate had reacted, he assumed Aurum's father would do the same. Of course, he knew better to rile someone up in this still unfamiliar world. That, and his target was Deadpool.

Now, the milk thing simply seemed weird. Unless the guy had lactose allergies or something.

Lactose intolerant? Not with the way Edward ate stew made with milk. Aurum ducked her head sheepishly, a slight blush coming to her cheeks that her white fur did nothing to hide. "Well... yes. Daddy... well he's not very big, or not as big as he'd like to be?" Golden swirls wrinkled upon her face as she crinkled her nose thinking about it. "I think it has something to do with growing up with his automail." Aurum shrugged and smiled sadly. "There's some things... I just don't ask."

Lifting her head again Aurum brushed her bangs from her eyes. "What about you? Your dad I mean? Or um... if you don't want to talk about him... something else?"

"Alright, alright." He laughed, shaking his head. Sensitive much? "I'll keep my height jokes for Brett." When the kid arrived, that is. He secretly hoped it would be soon; so that he would have a source of entertainment.

"My dad...uh. He's really strict with me. The fact that he is, or at least, was my school's principal doesn't really help." That and he was a rebel willing to take risks.

That warm smile and a nod accompanied by a soft 'thank you' for Aurum really appreciated that her new friend would not upset her father. She wanted her daddy to like her friend, and to have something like that come up was a good way for that not to happen. But she gave a slightly perplexed look that Josh would save height jokes for Brett. Wasn't this Brett his friend? Did he lke short jokes maybe? Wow.

She nodded, a soft understanding smile on her face. Her father could be strict at times. Hmm? Principle? No... he had said it differently. Principal? Now what was that? No wait... Josh said something about 'school's'... now what was that she had read? "Is a principal like a headmaster? That must be tough. I mean... I imagine it could be. I'm home schooled." Aurum giggled softly. "I guess you could say gr-daddy is headmaster, and Mommy and Daddy are professors."

Well, no. Brett didn't like jokes about his height, and he being a kid, but Josh did. It was a guy thing, and really, it was a sign of their friendship. Not that the two of them would admit it.

"I...guess." Woah. Were things really that different here? "Home schooled? That sounds cool." He would probably skip classes to go watch television or dirt bike racing though. The latter was something he couldn't do here, which rather annoyed him.

Perhaps not so different but that there was different terminology. No, that was not quite right either. There were no large organized schools of any type in the Realms of the Kitsusagi. Nor any that Aurum knew about in Gaia -at least not for any other than humans. Most of her knowledge came from grandfather Remus telling them about Hogwarts and what she read in 'Hogwarts: A History" which she found all very interesting -especially the magic that had been reworked and incorporated into their home- but at the same time not otherwise useful as there was no Hogwarts in this world. Likely even if Josh's friends and father ever showed up there would not be a Galaxy High, just as the SeeDs had no Gardens. 'Aunt' Miaka of course was rather glad except for missing her best friend and brother that she had no high school to go to, but that made sense when considering the source. At least Hotohori & 'Aunt' Ginny kept her from flambe-ing the kitchen... though sometimes Aurum was not sure.

Aurum nodded, smiling lightly as she filed that information away. Principal=Headmaster. "Oh it is! I love being able to study in the library or on a beanbag any time I want. Or ask to go play in the snow when needing a break. Even having a snowball fight turn into a lesson on magic or alchemy! We're almost always learning, which 'Aunt' Ginny says is really more fun then sitting behind desks for classes all the time." There was a glow to her eyes that nearly but did not quite equal the brilliance of when she talked about stars and space. "She's not really my aunt... but well it's kind of weird because she's from gr-daddy's 'before' only there she was younger than he was -her parents being of his generation- but here they're the same age. I mean really the same, not just that they're both adults. Kitsu grow to adults much faster than humans do."

Again Aurum looked sheepish for having said so much at once. "um... sorry for going off on a tangent like that..." This was kind of ... hard... talking with someone she was only now getting to know, who did not know who she was or where she was coming from or at least about her home and very bizarre & sometimes odd family. Hard to not try to tell him so much. Especially in one shot. Otherwise... Aurum was enjoying this immensely.

The fact that there was no school here was a reason he liked this place. And his list of 'Things to Like as a Kitsusagi' was shorter than the 'Things to Hate as a Kitsusagi'. But then again, Josh hated school. The dislike for lessons definitely put the two lists vying for a winner.

And he really did hope his father wouldn't turn up here. Even if there were no schools here, Principal Kirkpatrick would still find a way to force Josh to study, he was sure.

"It does sound more fun." He grinned. He wasn't exactly surprised at the fact that kitsusagi grew faster; he had heard about it already. Still, it was rather unusual to him. "And it's okay." He smiled at her, hoping to assure her it didn't really matter.

The ex-space marshal in training glanced up at the darkening sky, frowning. "Will your parents be worried?"

It was good to see Josh grin, and that more than his words had Aurum feeling better & smiling again. There was something about someone else smiling that just felt good... even when -or especially when- she was feeling insecure.

Sighing happily her green eyes followed his to the falling night and golden tails wagged happily. Soon, soon enough the stars would be coming out. Halfway into another sigh she caught Josh's frown from the corner of her eyes and stopped mid sigh like it was cut. Gold tipped ears started to lift questioningly and she was about to open her mouth to ask what was wrong when Josh asked his question. Her eyes went wide and slightly her mouth opened in a soft 'o' as realization set in: she had forgotten to tell them. oh dear. Slowly her ears fell and her tails stilled. Surprise at that revelation shifted to guilt, concern, & sadness. Normally Aurum was a very obedient kitsu... but she was already likely to be in trouble, right? And the stars...

"Most likely." Aurum said softly. Her gaze moved between her gloved paws, to the darkening sky, to Josh & then repeated. "But... I've never met anyone who's actually been to space. To the stars. They know how I am about them... and I... well I guess I'm hoping maybe you'd like to talk about them. Stars. Like If the stars here are anything like the one's you know. Their layout I mean. Or... well anything." She was sure he had something he could tell her or might want to share. It fascinated her that the stars and constellations might be different. They were different between Realm's skies and Gaia's -and those were different from the ones written in the divination books. Thankfully 'unca' AearHwesta had been willing to teach her about the stars and navigation so Aurum was well versed in her 'hobby' both with Realm's night sky & Gaia's.

Ah. If he knew he had made the other kitsusagi feel happier just by his smile, Josh would have relaxed and smiled a lot more. There was, however, a sort of wistful smile upon his features as he looked up at the stars, and his tails lifted in a wag as he reminisced the days when he was up there beside them. It seemed to be so long ago, yet also it seemed like all his missions took place just yesterday; the memories were so fresh in his mind.

It took him a while to tear his eyes away from the sky and look back at Aurum and shrugged. He had sneaked out late often and it wasn't much of a problem to him. "Well, at least you're safe." That's what mattered to a parent right? The time when he got captured, he heard that his father had been pretty worried about him more than his reckless act.

"I...see." Surprise stilled him for a moment, and the wistful smile settled on his lips yet again. "They are kinda similar, I guess." He scratched the back of his head sheepishly. He didn't exactly pay much attention in Astronomy either, but he did know tidbits of information. "But flying past them up there..." He pointed a gloved paw up and laughed softly. "It's a thrill that is hard to explain."

Aurum had not gone anywhere without telling her parents since she was a kit. Her parents' worry when Endless brought her & Morgan home was still ingrained upon her heart & mind. It bothered her that this might lead to such reactions again and yet... she could not bear to leave without seeing the stars nor did she quite want to part company with this interesting boy. Not quite yet. She would be growing tired soon enough. Perhaps she should start thinking about sleeping in, taking a later workout with Zell or her father, so that she could stay awake longer once the stars were out. One of the major dilemmas with waking around dawn.

Sheepishly Aurum nodded with a soft smile. Yes... she was safe. She felt perfectly safe. There was a chance -a really big chance when anyone but Aurum thought about who had set up this blind date- that this could have led to danger but it had not, nor did it seem likely now. Softly she turned her head to watch both Josh and the sky at the same time. At the wistfulness of his smile Aurum could not help but have her own smile warm, green eyes sparkling softly. Her smile stayed even as she giggled softly at the way Josh scratched his head. Had she asked something difficult? Oh but that was kind of cute how he seemed stumped. Smiling Aurum sighed heavily, her gaze sparkling with wonder as it followed where Josh's paw indicated. "I can only imagine..." She said softly, her sweet voice filled with longing & hope.

"Josh? I... well this is probably very forward of me and, well, it's held together with so many 'ifs' & 'maybes' but... if it happened that someday you did have a spaceship... would you... could you... maybe take me up there with you? I'd love to, at least once, fly among them. The stars. To simply experience it. To know..." The smaller femme laughed nervously and lowered her eyes for but a fraction. Her white fur looked nicely pink & darkened from the embarrassed blush beneath it. "I know that's a lot to ask... just meeting today and all..."

A soft whisper, green eyes filled with hope.

To Josh, the only danger in the kitsusagi world was Deadpool, who had kept shoving him into closets and was a constant source annoyance. Still, it was because he hadn't met any dangerous kitsusagi. Yet. He mostly stayed inside at the Place.

He smiled. Even aspiring rock star Yoko had given in to the beauty of the skies, and had been one of the most furious of the three when they learned that they were expelled. Being a space marshal, even though they were in training was an unforgettable experience.

"Hmm?" He blinked in surprise as she called his name, snapping out of his reverie. If he had a spaceship one day... He did hope that day would come, of course. That hope was what kept him going in this world. "Of course." He grinned at her. Why not? She was a really nice girl, and he could see that she was fascinated by space. He was sure Bret wouldn't mind.

Though she had never seen it herself, Aurum knew the dangers that lay in wait within the realm of the kitsusagi. Especially the dangers for her & her family. Envy. He had tried to kill her & her siblings in her mother's womb even before they were born -just because they were Edward's bloodline. Just because they were important to Edward. She knew. They had been warned & cautioned -had it all explained to them time and again as clearly or even more so than even their alchemy or any other study. To forget the potential danger was unacceptable. Which was why Aurum barely left the safety of the shielded clearing in Bass'Ken Woods or the Place, only even venturing to headquarters or out camping with an older family member -a more experienced family member. Even this 'date'... had anyone besides family or another trusted adult of home or the Place asked it of her she would not have been so likely to agree. Foolish perhaps to trust Deadpool -family or not- but the logic had been there.

Green eyes turned to meet his, bright and smiling and full of gratitude. Her smile seemed to brighten even more in the face of seeing his. "oh thank you!" Aurum whispered with a soft reverence before laying gracefully on her belly and resting her head on her paws sideways so that she was still looking at him & smiling. An ear lifted curiously then relaxed and she smiled again, this time for Josh not just because of what he said or the stars coming out above like diamonds on shifting hued velvet. Golden tails swished over the ground. "You have a nice smile. I hope it comes often." She smiled at Josh a while longer before turning her head forward and lifting green eyes happily back to the sky.

Perhaps Josh would not be so afraid if someone had tried to kill him in this world. Being a space marshal had taught him how to fight, and use his reflexes, and he was, admittedly, quite good at it. Besides, many space aliens had tried to kill him before, so he wouldn't be very surprised if someone attacked him.

Though he had been when Wade had pushed him into the closet when they reached the Place.

He chuckled at her happy expression, a happy grin on his face as he relaxed. Maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't kill Deadpool for this after all, seeing that he had made a new friend during this "blind date". "Thank you." He murmured, turning back to look at the eyes with a contented expression on his face.
