Dreams Dust the only time we are a part of the band is when they get punished. no, not when there is a one at competition or when there are expenses. We work harder and longer than the band. We also make the band look good. They're jealous wink Guard is sooooo much better! Bullshit. The band marches and performs for the crowd. We practice hours a week to put on good shows for people who want to come and HEAR as well as see a good show. Last I checked, the guard either uses popular music at hand, or they flail around to the music the band is performing.

My bd won't let us say the guard isn't part of the band, or treat them like they aren't. If anyone is caught sayng something bad about guard, we get a looong lecture in class. And winterguard does performances during concerts when we have set changes(jazz to orchestra, orchestra to band, jazz to band, etc) So does drumline.

Guard is part of the band. Durring marching season we put in the same amount of work into it as the band and preform with the same amount of effort. We learn our part with the band, dance around the band, and with. Durring concert season its different we have to go to all the band preformences, just like they go to ours. Therefore, guard is part if the Marching band.

Yes they're part of the band. But I hate it when this happens:
guard person: Yeah I'm a total band geek Other person: What instrument do you play? Guard: I don't play an instrument I'm in guard
>_< You're not a band geek! You're a guard.. geek.

^to the person above me, I only say I'm a band geek becuase it saves time. My coversations are more like this though>
>Person:You're in band? Me and my band hoodie> Yep, well Kind of. >Person: What do you mean? Me> I'm in color guard. >Person: Whats that? Me> (insert very long description of the color guard) >Person: huh?
Or the easier way
>Person: You're in band? Me in my band hoodie> Yep >Person: Cool.
I've gotten tired of explianing what the color guard is, so I chose the easier root. And when people ask what instrument I play I say the metal pole with the pretty flag on it, then I end up explianing anyway. : /

Of course! I'm in both Winter Guard and Band, So I understand both sides. With out the Guard the band wouldn't look good, and with out music the Guard would look really stupid. Therefore, The guard and Band are unified and balance each other out. ninja

We work as a visual to the music, Me, i'm not a colorguard. I'm a majorette; Feature twirler, of course i work with flags for certain movements, and it's amazing, watch a marching band video on youtube and tell me you dont feel tingly when you see those big flags do they're work, i bet you wont(; heart

The color guard at my school seems to totally hate our band, but I think yes, during a portion of the year, guard is part of band. Our color guard is not the nicest group of people on earth, but I have no problems with any other guards XD
Anyway, I think the band and guard work very nicely together. One with out the other to me is like tv without the speakers.

They're only really part of the band during marching season. Even though our BD tries to enforce unity among all of our groups, it really doesn't work out. Guard is almost an entirely separate division of the band program, as are percussion and jazz band. The guard only rehearses with the band some of the time, and the same goes for percussion.
We don't do ANYTHING but share awards with the color guard after marching season.
So... kinda.

"One band, one sound." The Guard is a crucial visual aspect of a marching band. Without the guard, with their complicated dance routines, their flags, rifles and banners, we'd honestly be bare. And I really dislike the attitude many of you are giving about this. In order to have a successful band, you need to work as a unit, as one. I think it's pathetic that either side go around saying "OMGSHGJDHGJDHGJD THEE GUARD IS BETTER THAN THE BAND, CUZ WE'RE SHINY FHJSHGJKDHGKJF" or "OMGG THE BAND IS SO SOSOSOSO MUCH BETTER COS' WE MAKE NOISE!!!!!!" No. That's just immature. THE BAND IS A SINGLE UNIT. this means that the guard, the front ensemble, the winds and the battery work TOGETHER. AS ONE. Otherwise, I might as well guarantee you will fail.

I've been on both sides of the feild, done both guard and band, and they must work together for it to work so yes they are part of the band, without them we would not have the good and cool effects that we get, and without the band the guard wouldn't have music
