Okay, so Cereah and I are talking the introduction over.

We both agree that the flashbacks make the player look to be a child (7-10ish). No issue there

The problem that we're having is that in the intro, the parents go off to travel the world for a year and leave their twins at their grandfather's farm (F-M-N Valley). Still haven't quite hit the issue.

Our issue is when the parents come back in a year, the player and his/her twin want to stay at the farm and have to convince their parents, but what parent would be convinced to leave their 8-11 year old behind? Cereah was thinking that if we aged them a bit to 15ish, it would be more realistic for the parents to leave them there, but it doesn't match up with the flashbacks...soooo....

I can see two options:
1) Have them start off at the farm at around age 13 or
2) Have the parents take off for more than a year.

What are your guys' ideas??

I'm going for #2. It's the choice that seems to make the most sense to me.
They could also be the kind of jerk parents you often deal with in entertainment that just kind of 'forget' about their kids, but that wouldn't really fit the HM image would it? sweatdrop Hmm.

their plane could crash.. neutral but i dont know if thats a good way to start an hm game sweatdrop it does give a more sensible reason for you to stay with your grandpa tho.

You know, that's a thought- usually HM games start with your grandfather dying but what if in this one you are forced to move in with your grandfather because your parents died instead? Though it would be a little bit more dramatic than normal, most HM games do start with someone dying, the reason for you moving to the farm. Then we wouldn't have to deal with the issue of the parents coming to reclaim their kids.

Overall, though, leaving them with grandpa for a long time might be better for the spirit of the game. The kids don't even have to have two parents- maybe they're in a single parent household (dad or mom died when they were young and the other parent just can't take care of them and work at the same time) so sends them to stay with grandpa while she travels around earning money (maybe she has a position in a company that requires traveling a ton and doesn't feel right leaving the kids alone since they are so young).

Or maybe I'm just really tired. ^^

well its not a bad idea..why does your grandpa have to own a farm to begin with though? couldn't your parent(s)? maybe your parent/grandparent can get married later on in the game to a villager? just passing out some ideas

I'm not really sure I like the plane crash idea. When your grandfather dies, he dies peacefully, not going down in flames and drowing.

Come on, you guys, kids play this game. And no one is mean in HM. That's just how it is. We can't have jerk parents. Try to keep it a little light.

Water: the ranch has always been owned by a family member (from my experience at least), so....I think it is good to add new things to the game, but you've got to keep tradition.

Cereah, I like that idea of a parent who died while they were young. And then they visit once a year. And then!! The single parent falls in love with another villager (depending who you have befriended maybe?).

Single peeps in HM:
Grant (his wife, Samantha, should come back)
Lillia (her husband, Rod, should come back)
Doug
Ruby (what happened to her husband?? Who is this Tim guy??)
Carter (the priest)
Gotz
Thomas(what happened to his wife??)
Harris (who should probably marry Aja ^_^)
Vesta (who definitely does NOT look like Marlin's sister)
Van (should probably marry Vesta since they're rivals. razz )

Anyways, I'm too much of a match-maker, but I'm just trying to think of who the single parent might marry. Interesting. :3
There seems to be more single guys than girls, so maybe the dad dies?

I like the idea of your parent being able to remarry- it could be kind of like in AWL where depending on whom you befriend that increases your parent's chance of marrying that person. ^^
And I agree that there are more male suitors than female so probably a single mom would work best.

so whos running the farm? grandpa? and your parent comes back too? confused im sorry but normally in hm there is nobody like that actually IN the game right? so i think 2 would probably be a little too much? if you have a single parent and they get married then gramps deffinatly couldnt.

billy, dosent your grampa usually die in the start of hm games? i mean its not like 4 year olds are playing hm neutral

How about the game starts and your dad has been dead for years and it's just the character and their mother. One day they get a phone call from the village's doctor saying that the grandpa has collapsed and isn't doing so well and asks if someone in the family is willing to take care of him. Both you and your mom decide to move down to his farm so your mom can take care of him. (Like she's his only child and there's no one else to take care of him.) Since she's busy taking care of him she asks you if you can do a little work around the farm to bring in some income.

Then as the game progresses and you become closer to one of the suitors, a cutscene activates and your grandpa dies. (maybe put a graveyard or a tombstone somewhere with his name on it.) Then if you get even closer to that suitor (like a orange heart), whoever's family (with a male suitor for your mom) likes you the most will proclaim to your mom that they love her (a little odd, I know) and she will move into their house. Since you're so successful by now, she'll let you stay on the farm and live your own life.

I know the whole idea is long and weird but it would be an interesting idea. xD

Okay, so I have no idea what you just said. could you please reword your statement? sweatdrop
Originally, I suggested that the grandfather runs the farm with you and your twin's help and your parent would come visit you once a year. I got that much, but I'm going to need you to rephrase the rest of it.

Sango12592: I really like that idea. :3

no no, i really like that idea! 3nodding actually im all for that idea!

billy: if everybody likes this idea theres no need for me to rephrase what i said before because if we use this idea what i said dosent matter..i was really just a little confused anyway

The only problem I have with Sango's idea is that the girl who originally wanted this game was thinking that our character would learn how to farm from the grandfather and still have time to run errands for villagers and a paper route et cetera.

I really like the idea of the mother coming to nurse the grandfather, so I'm thinking that we could make a blend of both. Maybe...the father has died and so the mom leaves her twins at her father-in-law's house so that she can work. She comes to visit in one year, notices that her father-in-law is getting a bit up there in years but doesn't think much of it. She comes back after 2 seasons, slightly more concerned, and then comes back one season later (Winter) to take care of him while he dies (sometime in Winter). She leaves after the funeral, but comes back soon to chillax with her kids and the villagers, falls in love, yadayadayada, gets married and stays as a resident in Forget-Me-Not Valley (unless she marries someone from Mineral Town).

How's that?

i supose it makes sense. but im going to program the whole story thru before i work on stuff like errands...and i wouldnt know how to do random errands like in ac for example...but i can have a good amount of errands that still contribute to the story maybe.
