Shih is one of those females who is beautiful and knows it. She takes great offense if one should even insinuate that she is wanting. She is a quick fighter and skilled hunter. One of her less favorite, but often pastimes is chastising her fellow lords. She feels that she is more intelligent and learned and therefore is obligated to correct them when they are wrong.

Shih was one of several otters rescued and relocated into the Oasis upon its creation.
She had grown in a pack that was very traditional and patriarchal. She was mated to an older otter when she was young, but ran off with a male around her age, Ching Yi, soon after.

She was nursed back to health and released into the Oasis. It was there she was reunited with her assistant, a very obedient squirrel who scaled the wall around the Oasis just to get to his Mistress. Ching had found the squirrel after he had fallen as a baby from his nest. Instead of killing the pitiful creature, she named him and raised him. He became completely devoted to her and not even humans and walls could keep him away from his Mistress.
