Eh, I've kind of figured that because I was wondering about the sudden increase myself. I've figured a lot of them were just going with the crowd myself as peer pressure is just as bad as previous generations.

Also, nerds rule lol

Well there are quite a lot of bi girls at my school that I've noticed...at least the gamer girls and anime fangirls. Maybe that has something to do with it? sweatdrop

That's because the boundaries for gender characteristics have been pushed on both sides in those as well as the emo scene like Blues said.

You have to admit, guys in anime aren't exactly the most masculine.

The popularity of anime porn/hentai/yuri/yaoi, etc all add to that as well.

Basically the whole scene is encouraging it.
Are you implying Japan is gay?

How did you get that out of my post? If you didn't notice I mentioned the Emo scene too. I'm not implying anything is gay.

Yeah, but what about everything else? Sumo wrestlers wear almost nothing. And tight pants... Was that what you were trying to get at? Male performers or something?

Yah they have manga, and they also have allot of great singers. Gaming is also huge in Japan. When a console launches, all of the stores close, and all public transportation stops.

At HistoryWak, the masculinity of anime/manga males varies from series to series and writer to writer. In fact, most of the feminine designs from Naruto aren't actually feminine. The female fandom interpreted it as such. You'd also need to recognize that Japan, as well as parts of Asia, have some honestly 'beautiful' men that aren't gay or don't act feminine.

For example, Gackt has skin better than most models yet off screen or away from the scenes, he acts more like a man than most of us probably do.

As for manga and anime, once again it depends on the writer. Read Vagabond or any other Takehiko Inoue series, along with series like Monster.

There is also the fact that girls tend to misinterpret homo-erotic for homosexuality. The very act of fighting, or even playing sports, is very homo-erotic. Two or more people clashing in a very physical way. Bodies colliding, etc. etc.

Along side that male best friends tend to seem gay for each other. This is where the subtle differences are key though.

It's not that the scene is encouraging or that the males lack masculinity. That's not the problem. The problem is that, this makes the idea that men don't know women ironic, typically women that haven't quite matured (in the sense of lived and learned enough) don't understand how men think or act. Hence why we've been stereotyped into only caring about sex or sports or our hobbies.

With that in place however the girls have become a viable target for businesses. The female fandom however needs to be taken with a grain of salt and tends to twist the reality of a story and it's characters. However there are quite a few exceptions to the rule but more often than not it's because the female has matured mentally.

It is also easily identifiable by what the fan will consider eye-candy. Typically the girls that we're talking about wouldn't find the characters of Vagabond to be eye-candy simply because a majority of them aren't pretty boys. However, the ones that do (for example someone I keep in contact with for the purpose of story dissection) either stay away from the Yaoi/Yuri sects or are simply more mature.

The problem with men is we have a tendency to, once we believe ourselves to be right, become dogmatic.

Lastly, one shouldn't mistaken an art style for lack of masculinity unless in certain cases.

Edit: I know I reuse words but I typically think like I'm speaking with breaks to listen to others.

Yeah, and calling Japan gay won't resolve anything. Though the line is getting hazy. Can't we all see beauty and sexiness in everyone?
