I dispise maraline monroe and I am very bored of seeing Warhol art rehashed as those 2 or 3 tone vector portraits that were popular on the net a while back.

People selling painted vector style portraits (ie they use photoshop filters to get the effect, print it and trace/paint it on canvas) RAAAA

They are everywhere here in brighton. It sickens me and when I walk past a stall selling black and white painted vector art of famous celebrity photos I always loudly proclaim how naff it is.
It makes me so angry I even go so far as to ask the seller if they are paying royalties to the photographer and would they like me to get in touch with them and tell them their work is being ripped off in the naffest cheapest repro kind of way??

I don't mind Warhol original art but I wouldn't have it on my wall.

these are not artists so much as they are craftspersons

the painting traced from a photo has as much expression added by the artist as a basket woven or a sweater knit

i see these works as utensils - brighten up a wall, fit with your decor, tools and nothing more

i don't see them as terrible artists, just... not artists at all. i don't even consider what they do to be 'below' art, just an entirely different thing

Art for art's sake sucks sometimes.

Eat various bags of candy and throw them back up into the original plastic and seal it? ART!

Cover a bed, a pillar, and an ICEBERG with meat? ART!

Dot on a canvas? ART!

I think the problem is that art is no longer viewed as a filthy, low "what were you thinking of becoming an artist!" type, and nobody has to work hard enough to outdo the next to get the next job.

Oh and I hate any deviantartess who thinks taking a picture of their boobs poking out of their shirt in a mishappen pose with a webcam is ART.

I'm not sure I agree

I think you insult craftsmen who make pots or weld gates or sew embroidery by lumping these people in with them. Craft is of course not lower than art. These people are not craftsmen tho, they don't make anything out of craft, they paint which is the domain of an artist but they paint a bad rehash of some one else's art. They are leeches.

I think he was thinking more diy network and less of actual craftspeople

they paint which is the domain of an artist
That is where I disagree.

I do not think that art has dominion over any particular medium.

Just because it is carved from stone does not make it a sculpture - it could be a brick or a knife.

Similarly, paint does not make art - it could be a simple sign or just a thing to decorate your wall. It could, in fact, just be a wall.

Well now who are you to say the brick, whether in original design or in modern placement, is not art?

yes blah blah blah everything is art whatever

but you can't compare say, a paint by numbers, or something like this to a fine art installation or something.

being someone who feels art

moreso than learning it

i have beef with art students and people being taught

i dropped out of artschool, it just wasnt for me
thats not to say that i dont get why some people are in it

i just feel like having to learn about art to practise it or be apart of it
negates art

art should be natural, a feeling, an understanding

self taught are the only people i can really say i admire or respect
at this point in my life.

and thats funny coming from someone who posts in a c and c forum like this xD

not to be rude, but really, that type of thinking is what killed art in the first place.

The revolution of art led to dots on canvas, pretentious snobs who think 'everything is art' and losing old techniques in lieu of cheap tricks instead of real talent.

I'm currently going to art school, and it's teaching me how to SEE. Nobody is teaching me how to paint, how to use my brush, how to use my paint. It's teaching me to look closer, to develop more, to push harder. It's got nothing to do with "right or wrong" or even *shudder* "what you feel".

The same goes for any other trade. Do you think masons become so good from just feeling it?

Art is not something special. Many art critics holler and yell about art being much deeper and something special and almost godlike.

You can paint really interesting, out there, and bizarre pictures. But do you think it'd be as succesful if you had learned how to paint in the first place instead of putting a pen to a tablet, choosing premixed colours or the same thing over and over?

To say you don't need to learn art is to say you don't need to learn how to build houses to build one.

It'll fall down around your ears and you'll have nothing left but a shakey, piece of crap house to freeze in lol.
