"There are two paths you can go by, but in the long run there's still time to change the road you're on..."

Skye's Thoughts - December 1st
I've chosen my path and, all in all, I'd like to say that I am pleased with the way it is progressing. I have three beautiful children... All of which are about to celebrate their first Christmas as this month progresses.

I find myself wondering if Flarie's wee ones will be here by the time the holiday comes... Will we have four little ones to introduce to the festivities? I hope so...

Rian and Callista are doing well. Calli had a little cold but, after passing it on to Rian and spending hours wailing, they both seem much better. They're eating well and moving around lots. Just the other day 'Vyn and I chased them all around the second floor. I'm jsut glad that the baby gate was safely in place by the stairs... And that neither Rian nor Calli has learned how to properly use their wings.

They discovered Keith's toys... He wasn't too happy, but he dealt with it well enough. He chose one of his tiny dragons for each of them and handed them over without a fuss... I think that maybe, just maybe, he's coming to terms with what it means to be a big brother.

Irvyn and Laylana are still making plans to move out... This still worries me but, as long as they're still around for the holidays, I suppose I can come to terms with this. My little ones... All growing up... So fast... And yet, not fast enough.

__// Wings of a Butterfly

Role Play Via AIM - January 19th, 2006

"Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
..."

He raised a hand to knock on the door, looking at it, pain filling green eyes. Not physical pain, no, but simple emotional anguish. His hand was lowered and he let his head connect with the door, leaning against it with his eyes closed. How would she react? He'd been gone ... What he'd done ...

The door slid open easily... She'd not left it locked. She'd simply shut it so that none of the children would wander upstairs as children were often likely to do. 'Vyn had moved out along with Flarie's Fa'e daughter, Lana, not long after Christmas... And everyone else had been watching her carefully for quite some time. She needed... She needed a new hobby and she'd found it in her new 'experiments'.

He caught himself before stumbling, an intake of breath sucked in through his lips. Looking up he saw Skye and moaned softly, his eyes filling with tears. He looked horrible. His clothes, usually so neat and pressed, were frumpy, wrinkled. Hair was uncombed and it looked like the Master Angel of Water needed a shower.

She was leaned over her desk, scrawling notes away in a shiney new journal that she'd purchased just for the sake of taking notes on her 'findings'. That moan caught her offguard and, it seemed to have likewise caught whatever it was that had been floating over her shoulder by suprise as well. "WinK?"

He sobbed once, hearing his name on her lips. Oh, how he wished things were different, but when he looked back on them, he wouldn't have traded anything for another outcome. "I ... " his voice cracked and his left hand covered his face. His wedding ring shone, surprisingly well-kept when everything else about him seemed to be in such a neglected state.

She stood quickly, pushing her chair aside so fast that it nearly fell over. The mechanical gizmo whirred in the air behind her, shimmering with an odd pinkish-blue glow as it 'observed' that which was taking place. Looking at him, letting that sob sink into her very core, she couldn't help but let a wave of dispair wash over her. Without words, her fingertips brushed over the hand he held against his features, teeth biting down firmly into her lower lip.

Tears flowed freely from tightly closed eyes. His hand turned and entwined in hers, his other arm tentatively wrapping around her, afraid of being pushed away. Shaking slightly he waited for a sign, anything, that let him know she still cared about him, in any small fraction.

Her fingers gently squeezed his, holding onto his hand for a moment before pulling away so that she could wrap both of her arms around him. "Shh..." She coo'd softly, offering him as much reassurance as she could almost as she would one of the children awakening from a bad dream.

When he finally calmed he opened his eyes. Usually shining with an emerald brilliance they were dull like a leaf about to turn brown before winter. "He wanted them dead," was all he said, voice scratchy and shaking slightly.

And then... She snarled, silvery blue eyes blazing with a cold fire as the 'lightening rod'-like pieces of the spyre whirring behind her began to sparkle with traces of electricity as if reacting to her sudden shift in mood. "No." She said firmly, tail whipping through the air behind her while she fought the urge to begin pacing.

His hands tightened around her almost subconsciously. "No. Wanted. He'll ... let them live," he said, voice quivering over the last three words. He wouldn't meet her eyes now, his own dropped, a tear leaking from each eye silently. "Wanted," he whispered.

"No right, WinK. No right at all to take from me what is mine... What I brought into this world... No right at all." She repeated that final phrase at least once or twice more, voice rattling with the promise of tears and overwhelming emotions. Who was this... This being to even think of taking babies... From anyone, let alone one of his own.

He sobbed, knees threatening to give way, listening to her words. "Please, no. Just ... no. They'll live. They'll live," he said, sliding to the floor, hands clutching up to fist in his hair.

"Who is he to decide this?" She nearly shrieked and, somewhere in the back of her mind, she was relieved for the clap of thunder that seemed to cover the worst of her voice. She dropped to her knees in front of him, hands grasping his wrists. "Why?"

He was shaking his head, mumbling to himself, rambling animately in the old angelic tongue. The angel was rocking back and forth before he started chanting "They'll live" over and over as if it was a hymn, a saving grace.

She could pick up a few of the words... But nothing clear enough to make coherent sentences out of. She sat there starring at him for a moment, shaking his wrists as she held them... Before releasing his left wrist from her right hand in order to slap him across the face in hopes of bringing back some form of the man who would actually talk to her.

He was stunned, and stopped rocking and chanting, but he still wouldn't look at her. "They'll live, Skye. They cannot create, the way I can. But now they'll live ... I've ... paid for their lives," he said, eyes darkening, almost hardening, glazed over.

She paused, letting his words sink into her core and, once more, the sound of thunder rattled the tower room as she spyre gave off its sparks from the corner. Dreams were shattering in this room... And spirits were breaking. A storm was eminent. "What did you do, WinK?"

He turned his head to look at her, anguished. "I gave up my wings," he said quietly. If she looked underneath his shirt there would be two large scars where his master had ripped him of his glory. "And I must return so he can take them again when they start to regrow." Tears leaked down his face uncontrolled and upstopped. "And I will continue to do this until they die naturally. He will not interfere."

Her breath caught in her chest and the entire room fell still save for the sounds coming from the angel. "You serve a vile master, WinK. A vile master nor worthy of anyone's servitude... A being who would kill babes and take the flight from angels?" Her stomach wrenched and, before she could react otherwise, she was scrambling across the room to wretch in an empty cauldron.

He closed his eyes, waiting until she was done, too tired and too apathetic to move over to her."I ... cannot speak against him. I am what He created. I ... " he stopped, closing his eyes tightly. "They'll live," he said quietly. "I did it for you ... and for them. I can," he gulped, "endure." He pushed his face into his hands, too wrung out to shake or rock back and forth.

Her arms remained around the cauldron as she was reduced to a series of dry heaves that eventually gave way to sobs. She had no words of comfort... Only a seething anger directed towards his diet that made her feel even more sick to her stomach.

He slowly stood, walking over to kneel down next to her, brushing her hair back before pulling her into his lap, closing his eyes and resting his head in the crook of her neck. "I'm sorry, so sorry."

Still unable to respond she simply shuddered as she tried to find a steady pattern of breathing. She didn't want to breathe though... Each breath brought a new wave of nausea to her stomach.

He held onto her, a hand running gently up and down her back as he started to rock her, as if he were trying to put her to sleep. After a moment his started singing quietly in the ancient language of his brethren, a soft soothing melody.

It took little to put the dragon to sleep as she had been spending many late nights in her tower coupled with long days watching over the children now that the older one's had moved out. Her sleep was deep and, thanks to the spyre now hovering a bit more closely to the couple, it would be dreamless as well.

He gulped and sat there, not intending on going to sleep while he held Skye in his arms, but not wanting to move her either. The blinking thing seemed to be doing something, but he didn't know what. And if he moved he might've dreamed coming back here. Instead he just held her.

The 'blinking thing' was silent for a moment before it began to piece together bits of information from the song it had just heard the angel sing. Softly at first, gaining with the beautiful tones, it began to 'sing', hoping to send the angel into the same dream-less sleep that the dragon had been put into.

He shook his head, trying to rid his ears of the sound, but seeing as how he was already tired it was just easier to go to sleep ... so he lay down, still cradeling the sleeping Skye in his arms gently before his mind drifted away to nothing.

__// Eyes of the Observer

I have been spending more time with the twins as of late... More than the dragon knows in her moments of weakness... And probably more than she would like. She knows that I'm here even if she doesn't care for it. Sometimes I wonder if she's told her other housemates about my presence... In a way, I highly doubt that she has.

The 'taint' of shadow is stronger within the boy-child; Rian. He's so young and yet, just standing in the same room as him, I can feel it. Once he's older he'll have to be taught to mask it least others think ill of him from the start.

Callista, on the other hand, is a priceless cherub. Her smile can light up a room. I would almost say that she gets it from her mother... But it has been quite some time since I've seen the dragon smile. In time I think that everything will smooth over... All things heal with time... It's just a matter of figuring out how long that time is.

No matter... The family sleeps now and all seems safe... 'Tis time for me to return home... To rest before the dawning of another week.

On the seventh day... There was rest.

The demon had promised that she would come visit Skye more often and so she would. Lyra had demanded to go for a walk in the woods since Jhadia was out playing and so in turn Quin had to come along too. With promises of fun and getting to see Callista and Rian again it was easy to get them to agree that a suprise visit on Skye was in order.

Quin on one hip and Lyra tottering along beside her attached to her pant leg the demon made her way though the trees toward the dragons home.

"Mamma....pretty lady have sweets?" Lyra tugged on Hatters pants as she looked up at her mother. She wanted something sweet, like a cookie, so the pretty lady better have something.

Her lion plush was clutched in her other arm as she walked along. She wasnt about to leave the house without the general of her army, no way no how.

Sweets were one thing that the dragon did not like having an excessive amount of in her home. With the exception of Keith, who needed to keep chocolate around to keep Lo'Dalen happy, and Laire, who was a sneaky, manipulative brat when it came to candy, the members of the household were pretty sugar-free. When 'Vyn had moved out he'd taken most of his baking supplies with him.

Suprisingly enough, both Rian and Calista were co-existing in the same room. They each had a picture book lying open across their tiny laps and they were both being watched like hawks by Remi. He had tried to tell Raz earlier that Rian was up to something with his silence but the darker angelic figure didn't believe him.

Hopping up onto the porch Hatter, after shifting Quin on her hip, knocked on the door. Lyra was peering around over the grass looking for something intresting, lord knows what the could be, and had the lion on her head.

"Raz and Remi should be around...." She figured they were probably watching the little ones since that seemed to be what they lived for. At least that is what Remi seemed to live for. "Lyra, leave the catterpiller alone." She called back behind her.

She snatched her fingers back as she turned to looked innocently at her mother. She didnt know how Hatter always seemed to know what she was doing when she wasnt supose to be doing something.

Remi thrived on being viewed as usefull, rather than the 'useless' that Mira had taken to calling him. Mira, of course, had nearly been disposed of the last time he'd appeared in the dragon's home so Remi didn't have to worry about that. All he had to do was make sure that everything went smoothly while the dragon worked on... Well, while she worked on whatever it was that kept her up in that tower of hers away from her children. She really was a horrid mother as far as the 'younger' ages went.

Upon hearing the knock on the door he was torn between staying in the den with the twins and going to get it. When it was decided that they couldn't get into too much trouble within a minute he bolted for the door, quickly opening it. "Hello!"
PostPosted: Thu May 11, 2006 6:05 pm

"Hello Remi." Hatter smiled. "...Skye is locked away somewhere isnt she?" She sighed and waited for his answer. She was probably right, if not them she would have answered the door or Keith would have.

Quin and Lyra looked up at Remi as he opened the door and the little girl giggled. She pointed at him, the lion still firmly atop her head, and pouted. "Not pretty lady."

"The dragon's been up in her tower for a better part of the day. It's about time that she came down for lunch, but..." He shrugged, wincing as he heard a crash from the direction of the den. His eyes went wide and he took off, leaving the demon and her twins at the open door.

In the living room a vase had been knocked over... A vase containing roses that had once been a beautiful shade of red. They were now... Black? Yes. Just as black as the pool of water forming on the carpet. Cali bit down on her lower lip, edging closer to one of the couch cushions. Rian grinned.

The moment the guardian 'angel' skidded into the room the roses were red once more and the water was, just that, a pool of water. He quickly scooped Calista into his arms, eyes narrowing as he glanced at Rian. "... I told you to behave."
PostPosted: Thu May 11, 2006 6:15 pm

The demon trotted after Remi, Lyra in tow, and peered into the room. "Its just a vase, not that bad." She said quietly enough that only she, and Quin, would be able to here.

"Rian, are you getting into trouble again." She shook her head as she leaned on the door frame. She knew that he was the trouble maker of the two, just like she knew her daughter was the trouble of her two. Rian had always been 'darker' than his sister.

"Bad for Flowers." Lyra chirped from behind Hatter's leg. She knew that knocking over things was bad and that leaving flowers out of water was bad for them. That's why Jhadia got in trouble. The Jivvin liked eating flowers and Hatter always got onto her for doing it

Rian gave the demon his best 'innocent' look, complete with wide, green eyes and a flutter of silver-blue feathers. "No." That was one of the few words that he had mastered almost immediately. He'd heard it so often that, naturally, it had been one of the first additions to his vocabulary.

From Remi's arms Calista whimpered a soft 'Yes', reaching for Hatter. The demon gave off the same comforting feeling that her mother did and if she was here then Remi wouldn't have to hold onto her anymore.

"Rian has been causing a bit of mischief lately." His nose scrunched slightly. "Best you talk with his mother about that though. Raz has told her what he thinks and she's brushed him off."

"Raz-berry!" This seemed to brighten Cali's mood, drawing her attention away from the demon as she began to look around for her darker guardian.
PostPosted: Thu May 11, 2006 6:28 pm

Setting Quin down Hatter walked over and fluffed the little girls hair. "OH i see how it is. I get brushed off cause someone mentions your Raz-berry." She scooped Calista out of Remi's arms and looked down at Rian. "No? You didnt knock that over?" She nodded at the vase.

Quin tottered after Hatter and held onto her pants as Lyra crawled up onto the couch to take the plushie off her head. Sitting it in her lap she watched the goings on.

She picked up on things fast, a little to fast for Hatter to like but what could the demon do.

She nestled her head against the demon's neck, wrapping tiny arms around the demon as best she could. "An'taw." Her lip quivered once more, leathery wings drawing firmly against her back. 'Aun'Tar', or 'Aunt Hatter', was here. She would make things alright.

"... No." His pause was enough to give him away, even if he hadn't truly knocked the vase over himself. "Dack-nessss." He nodded, letting that uncertainty slip into a grin. "Ooogie boogie."

The lighter of the guardians crossed his arms over his chest. "There was no 'oogie boogie' here when I left to open the door, mister."
PostPosted: Thu May 11, 2006 6:42 pm

"The darkness dosent do anything unless someone asks it to." The little boy probably knew that. If Raz was on top of keeping the little one inline of their powers he should have learned that first. "So who really knocked that vase over?"

Darkness? What that the stuff that followed Hatter around when she was upset? Quin looked down at Hatter's shadow almost as if he expected it to get up and walk away.

Lyra giggled and flopped over on her side. Rian was in trouble. Mamma would make him pick up the flowers and the vase and he would be in trouble. Maybe she should figure out how to knock things over without anyone seeing

"'Ian dii'it!" She cried out, little brow furrowing as her lips formed a pout to trump all pouts. She certainly was her mother's daughter.

"No." His own dark brow furrowed, arms crossing over his chest. "No no no no no." He wasn't going down for something that he hadn't done. The boogie man had knocked the vase over and that was the story that he was sticking with.

Remi sighed as he reached out for Cali, taking her from the demon's arms. "Arguing with them isn't going to get you anywhere... Raz will be able to find out for certain once he comes back... I hope he comes back soon.

"Raz-berry?" The little girl brightened once more.
