This isn't exactly someone being mad about anything I'm learning, but the other day I was with my boyfriend at a friend's house, and her mom had a new boyfriend, who may or may not have been drunk. But we and all the kids started writing on the ground with chalk, and I wrote something in Japanese. The mom's boyfriend came over and was like "I know what it says! Ching chong, ching chong ching ching." And then he told us that instead of "writing all these funky words" we should be doing something artistic or something that takes skill.

Haha something funny happened, speaking of learning languages and other people either not supporting it or just having no clue whatsoever, I signed my friend's yearbook in Japanese. Then her friend looks at the post and says "ooh! an Asian person signed your yearbook!" and I'm like..... *ahem*
Ya don't have to be asian to be able to "write asian" -_-

Ya don't have to be asian to be able to "write asian" -_-That irks the hell out of me, when people say/assume "Oh you can't do X because you aren't Y" -_- It's really annoying when people think that somehow your genetics decide what langauges you can and cannot speak, or what skills you can master, or what you are "supposed" to know. One thing that happens sometimes is that I'll go to some little restaurant that serves something not European there, and I'll go in and order something, and the people there will give me a reaction like " Holy f***, a white person likes our food and knows something about our culture, and has some clue on how to pronounce everything! eek ".

XWraith_LordX People laugh at me for learning Swedish, and I am constantly ridiculed by my dad and a couple friends for not learning Spanish. Apparently just because I live in Los Angeles, it's some sort of essential skill to have... Some people get freaked out when I tell them I'm trying to learn Arabic, and my mom is supremely irked at me for learning German at the same time as French because she doesn't want me learning more than one langauge at once, so I keep the rest of my langauges secret. rolleyes I hate this! This is precisely why I don't learn Spanish. It's a great language and all, don't get me wrong, but I don't have an interest, it's overrated, and for what I want to do with my life it's not even useful.

My school conselor does not like it that i am learning french and german. He even went so far as to try and tell me that the next level of french i wanted to take did not exist even though my french teacher did and other kids were taking it.
Also when i say i am learning german and french people ask why not i'm not learning spanish. They say it is more useful and spoken more and, ok i live in texas so here it is, but i do not plan on staying in texas.
Then there are people, who when i say i am learing german, comment on how they think the language sounds bad.

Till now noone has had a problem with me learning another language. In fact my parents are supportive on that issue.
My mom wants me to learn French cuz she's the French side of the family smile + it bugs me, that I cannot communicate properly with that side of the family.
My dad always repeats "Learn another language and be good at it ! It's very important for your future !" and I totally agree.
PS @_Morgane Fay_ Bloody friggin awesum sig !

Generally people seem to be fine with my intrest in languages. then again my family is a bunch of people that LOVE to travel and my friends are all just as intrested in languages as I am. They think it's funny though that sometimes words in a completely different language fall out of my mouth when I'm talking. Acording to them I speak Japaenglanish - In other words Japanese, English and spanish all mixed together. They get what I'm saying those so they find it cute. They also find it cute that whenever I say anything in any language (including english) I kinda always talk like a little kid. (I'm 16 by the way.) But so far no body's upset at my intrest in languages so YAY me.

As for the Subject of people getting mad at me for learning a language, there hasn't been too much conflict. The only person I know I've made mad is my brother, because it annoys him to death when I speak spanish too him. twisted But, no, not much of a problem at all. smile
In fact, it is usually the other way around. There have been a couple times when I have yelled at my dad for not even considering learning some Spanish before even thinking on going on a trip to Mexico. blaugh
I almost got him too. But he quit. Oh well, guess I have to try harder. mrgreen

People don't get mad at me for learning a language, sillies.
C'mon, learning three languages (one of them being mother tongue) is compulsory here, though some people do hate the fact they have to learn.
I only get compliments. 3nodding
