It was autopilot. The moment they had been told to run, he had focused solely on his task of retrieval. He raised his arms as he sprinted passed the length of the house, and lifted them above his face. Whether he was injured was of no importance. Heaving upon his last footfall, he crashed through the fastened gate, which popped open with little resistance as he fell. Even when he landed he did not stop.
He saw them, the boy grabbing a hold of some girl – they held no importance. His gaze tore through the darkened street and fastened upon Neko. Yes, yes, yes! That was his objective.
A clever girl to hide behind the cover of others. A shame she wasn’t clever enough.

They were getting ahead, Yuki was certain of it. The scent of the stranger was melting away not long after they had reached the nearest boundary between their village and the dark forest, the adrenaline of both he and his sister aiding them in their speed. He looked back, expecting to see Nekomata not far behind, but he wasn't there. "s**t!" He swore loudly, releasing his grip on Hitsu as he skidded to a halt.
She stopped as well, and as they both took a seconds' pause to look at the direction they'd come from, as though Neko would emerge now that they were waiting for him. He didn't, and Yuki gently placed his hands on Hitsu's shoulders. "I want you to keep going."
"I'm not going to leave without you!" She protested, her voice revealing that she was on the brink of tears. Likely from the fear of being chased, but certainly not helped by the thought of being alone.
"Do as I say, Hitsuzen!" Yuki demanded sternly, though his expression softened thereafter. "We'll catch up. I promise." Then, he dashed off toward the village once more, leaving Hitsu to stand where he'd left her, where she did little more than rub the first of her tears from her eyes. She didn't move onward.

Instead of heeding Neko’s words and following him, Mitsu turned sharply toward the crashing noise as the gate broke open to reveal the man after them. Petrified, she tried to move but the fear engulfing her mind prevented any such action to take place. Run….RUN! She tried to will herself to move but it was doing no good.
Luckily, Neko was there and had a firm hold on her wrist and tugged her along rather roughly to kick start her feet. “Come on move!” Pushing Mitsu ahead of him he took off behind her, keeping an eye behind him as this stranger drew closer. He mentally kicked himself at this point for leaving himself unarmed. Never again would he leave ALL his knives anywhere again.

He stopped.
He watched her panic and skid to a halt. He looked on as they gained some distance; it was as though his thoughts were attempting to catch up to the adrenaline coursing like fire through his body. He could run them, no doubt, until they were tired. However, that wouldn’t leave him in any better state; he needed as much energy as possible. Then again, he could run them into his arms. Well, preferably run the girl into his arms and the other young man into his knife if need be.
He took off down a side street; weaving through alleyways he had familiarized himself with not too long ago. He kept his ears open. His eyes were fastened on the sky.

Being pushed along, Mitsu finally found her footing and started to run on her own. Now with food in her belly her energy was coming back and she was able to sprint ahead of Neko with ease. Running was about the only thing she was ever good at. Finding her way to the street she started to make a run for the forest, sure to keep an ear out to make sure Neko was following behind.
When Mitsu started running on her own, Neko actually had to struggle to keep up. She hadn’t been that fast earlier. Safe to say she would be alright now if she just kept running, Neko kept glancing over his shoulder, expecting at any moment for that psycho to jump out of no where and take them both down.

He leapt over barrels and garbage, sped past those who meandered in the dark alleys. Some crates were stacked against the wall as if awaiting his steps, and he leapt onto them as agilely as a cat would. He climbed his way to the roof and jumped, catching one hand against the edge and throwing himself up. He rolled and climbed to his feet.
He saw them when he went to the edge, looked down on them from his perch. The girl was faster than he had thought. Had cursing been part of his repertoire, he would have. Instead, he cleared the roof to the ground, startling some late-night walkers, and took off down a street in order to cut them off.
He was so close, and he knew it.

Yuki could see the warm glow of the windows along the edge of the village, and it urged him to move faster. As he drew closer, he caught glimpse of movement, another that was speeding through the shadows. He wasn't quite near enough to know who it had been, but he aimed to follow.

Pacing herself seemed to be the farthest thing from Mitsu’s mind as she started to focus on running, moving faster and faster as she moved through the streets. Thinking to take an alleyway, Mitsu turned sharply, slightly faltering when she heard a noise from above. Only encouraged to speed up the pace she started to lean forward to gain momentum but was suddenly headed off as a dark figure blocked her path. Trying to stop, she threw her feet out in front of herself but only managed to make herself stumble forward and right to Yuval.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Neko hollered as Mitsu took a sharp turn down an alleyway. Small closed off areas were a bad idea, horrible idea, but against his better judgment he followed. And not even two seconds into the alleyway was his intuition confirmed as Mitsu basically stumbled into Yuval’s arms. “Damnit, you foolish girl!” Preparing himself, knowing Hitsu would never forgive him otherwise, he took a stance ready to fight to get Mitsu back.

'I feel something... In the air tonight.'
A figure crawled along the black forest's floor. Perhaps as a symbolism, or perhaps a main idea of movement. Or perhaps that nasty looking bite on her leg had something to do with it. Either way, it seemed to be making it's way toward the forests end. The figure was clearly female. Humanoid like, even. But why she crawled made sense to only her.
Her hair was tangled. Her naked body was cut up. Her eyes had dark circles under them. And in her mouth, a limp and most obviously dead rabbit. It's blood was smeared all over her mouth.
'Is something moving toward me?'
Her mind called out, seemingly to nothing inparticular.
'Indeed there is. You're in for a treat, on this night of all nights. It appears that you may just have company.'
The girl promptly stopped at the thought that had just been placed in her head. Oh, how she had waited to see someone, anyone! It didn't matter to her wether they would greet her with a smiling face or a kick to the stomach anymore. She longed to see someone, though didn't quite understand why. The concept of lonliness was never explained to her, only driven into her mind that she deserved thus.
'Well c'mon now. You don't want to keep them waiting, do you?'
Another thought, that appeared to be from someone elses mind, popped into hers. Oh no, she most certainly didn't! With a smile hidden behind the dead rabbit, she carefully picked herself up and began limping forward. It may have been more painful, but her desire outranked her pain.

All he had to do was wait and keep his arms open.
He really should have laughed when she all but pin wheeled towards him, crashing into his arms. He kept his feet planted firmly upon the ground, jerking back as she was captured. To onlookers, it really was like the yarn he had woven: lost uncle finding lost niece. His arms clasped tightly around her, pinning her own arms to her side in case she fought.
He smiled grimly over her head at Neko. His fight was over – he had gotten what he had wanted. He was flattered by the younger man’s notion of heroism. However, he had no idea that such flights of whimsy would cost him dearly, especially if he was going to fight for her.
“Are you sure you are not a canine? You herded her right into my arms!”

It couldn't have been better timing. Well, perhaps if he would have caught up before Mitsu crashed into the man they had been trying so desperately to escape, but what had happened could not be undone. Yuki closed in on the three without slowing his pace, from behind the enemy, lunging at his target at a slight angle. Arms extended, claw-like nails outstretched to take hold of cloth or flesh. Yuki aimed to directly collide, to hopefully send Mitsu's captor sideways with him to more easily pin the b*****d down without crushing Mitsu beneath the both of them in turn.

In an unwanted embrace, Mitsu stiffened as she looked up at Yuval with wide frightened eyes. At this close range she could see the sinister look the scars at the sides of his mouth gave his features. The thought of a smile like that only caused her to shake uncontrollably as she continued to stare up at his face. “P..please. Let me go.” She tugged a little as if testing his hold on her but found herself tightly bond to him with his arms and with her own arms tightly secured to her sides she didn’t know what to do. Looking to his eyes her mouth crept open as she whispered another plea to be let go.
To the comment, Neko only growled. In fact, he started to weigh his options as to whether it was really worth it or not. Hitsu would get over him letting the mutt go, wouldn’t she? No, probably not. All the same he hated himself for being brought to the point of having to save a lowly canine. “I’m certainly not a canine, and that would be to your disadvantage.” Not having to many options Neko held his hands in front of himself just at his torso and got ready to summon up a spell. Mid way through, however, his focus of trying to think of a spell that wouldn’t blow the entire alley away was interrupted as he spotted Yuki coming up from behind, but acted as if he saw nothing.

Her pleas fell upon deaf ears. He never even spared her a glance; he had a job to stick to, after all. And she was dangerous, he had been instructed: what good was her freedom when others would be put into jeopardy? Yes, he believed what he was doing was very much justified. After all, they had told him so.
Neko’s movement surprised him, but any indication of it went unnoticed. As he made to switch Mitsu into one arm, he felt himself caught by sharp claws and twisted away, crashing to the ground beneath Yuki’s weight. Stunned was an understatement, and angry was too kind. His mind was working double-time, and as he met the hard earth, his knee came up.
If he was going to land uncomfortably, so was his attacker.

[You have no idea how tempted I was to have Yuki get sick all over him. XD; And since Inu is using Yuval's name in her posts, I hope it's alright for me to do the same. If not, I'll be happy to change it.]
He was victorious! For about half a second. Just as soon as he'd knocked Yuval off of his feet, something other than the expected jolt as they hit the ground resulted. Yuki had no way of knowing of, or reacting to, the knee that was so perfectly placed for his gut to crash into. Once it did the wind was knocked from him, the pain was immense, and the fact that his stomach was full only managed to make it worse. Yuki failed to land as he would have liked, and his body slid to one side. It was a miracle he didn't vomit. He gasped, choking on air as he laid halfway atop of Yuval.
-----
Were was he? Was it supposed to take this long? Had he found Nekomata? Had that evil man found any of them first? Hitsu whimpered into the darkness, wandering to a fallen tree only a few feet from where she stood. She seated herself upon the trunk, staring off in the direction of the village. Should she go back? No. He'd come back this way. Her brother knew she'd take this path. For a moment, she looked in the opposite direction, into the darkness that looked so lonely and unwelcoming. Sure, she enjoyed exploring the forest, but typically that was something she did when it was still daylight, and never when she was fearful of Yuki's safety.

When she came upon the outskirts of the forest, the girl stopped and looked around quietly with her blood red eyes, then took a wiff of the air. She smelled... Fear. But it was different. It came from a different kind of animal. Then, she spotted something. The figure stood upright like she sometimes did. Could it be? Could it truly be? A... Person?
'Would ya look at that.'
The same person sending thoughts to her placed in her mind. Her tail started swaying happily back and fourth.
'Well, what are you waiting for? Go say hi!'
Forgetting about her injured and bleeding leg, the girl started off at a sprint. She wasn't looking at where she was going. She wasn't in the least bit interested in anything around her. Just this person. That's why she tripped over a tree branch and fell straight to the ground. The dead rabbit she had basically forgot about flew a little ways away from her. "M'NYAAAAA!" She yelled out in pain, sounding like some kind of injured animal.
