{ Oo Your drawing, Sea...is almost exactly what I had in my mind! D= Except that Evi and Furze were switched. ~hears creepy music~ D8 }
Fiore suddenly felt very guilty about having been so rash around Elitalov. Clearly the boy just needed some tender, love and care. Of course, he wasn't going to be the one to give it but he had a good idea of a couple people who wanted to try. This whole situation had his nerves at a frighteningly thing level. An argument over a couple pieces of jewelary? How ridiculous! Why, if he'd been there when it happened, he would have nagged Eli's parents good.
He wanted to say something, truly he did, but no words came out. In all his years of travelling, the gift of speech had never been given to him. What could he say to calm Evisule, even if he could speak?
Mikaila trotted along behind Eli, absently reaching out to brush her fingers against each plant that they passed by. She could almost feel their life force calling out to her, telling her of all the things she had been missing over the long years. Being around Eli and Evi reminded her of that tight bond she had had with her own brothers. Such a large family she'd had and what had happened to it? Where they still alive? Did any of them mate and have offspring?
Sighing, she hung her head and watched the ground slip by beneath her hooves. Just like my life, Mikaila morbidly thought. She couldn't stand the silence any longer. It was slowly driving her into madness and whether he like it or not, Eli was going to talk to her. " Um, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your earrings? "
It seemed to be a safe enough subject to approach and she hoped that it didn't betray the nervousness in her stomach. Ever since she'd met him, Eli always came up with ways to twist her emotions, even if he didn't notice what he was doing. Why, even now with him walking underneath the moonlight, a casual act in all degrees, was an absolutely wonder to Mikaila. She wanted to reach out and touch him, but he'd already shown that he wasn't much for affection, so she let it slide.

(Yeah, Sea, your drawing is exactly what I was thinking of, except opposite, with Fiore starting on the far left and Det ending on the far right. XD And I pictured them more in a curved line on one side of the fire... but that's prolly because I didn't think to picture them actually around the fire. XP So, yay fer pics! 8D Oh, and Furze. I love him and his imagination. XD )After a deep breath, Evisule smiled gratefully at Sweetfern. "It's alright," she replied, "it's in the past. But as much as I miss her, Eli misses her that much more... He's not very good at simply letting go, as I'm sure you can all tell, even from such a short time around him. Of course, it's not an easy thing to do when you're so young and so in love and then..." She didn't feel the need to finish the sentence, and wasn't sure she could without coming close to tears again. In an odd, random, longing thought, which Detnuadnu knew he probably shouldn't have been thinking with the conversation going on, but thought it anyway, the wolftaur imagined how it wold feel for Sweetfern to brush her fingers against his skin. But sadly, now wasn't the time to find out, and with all the cervis around, he probably wouldn't be able to for a while. But he would be patient and wait, as he was when hunting, except that this prey could easily become the predator, which for once he found quite appealing.Elitalov stiffened at Mikaila's question, his face freezing into a look of shock for a split second before he crossed his arms and put on his usual surly, serious glare. "Four of them are from my parents. A heritage thing. The other six are from myself. A rebellion thing," he stated simply, leaving out the part where the total of ten earrings were a symbol of his love for Naina. He guessed that Mikaila wanted him to talk for some reason like curiosity or boredom, and she probably wouldn't give up, so he might as well give in. But of course, he would only bend a little, and say the bare minimum he had to, like excluding the part where her stubborness reminded him of Naina.(EDIT: Lookit what I posted in my journal today! 8D )

Furze was a bit slow on the uptake, but he seemed to sense the sober atmosphere at last. He sat quietly for a few moments, staring around at the adults with his ragged rabbit remnants in his hands, then dropped the meat and reached up to tug on Evi's ear. "Heyheyhey," he whispered loudly.
Not knowing what to do now that she was out of words and out of food, Sweetfern picked up a piece of wood and messed with the fire a bit, her naturally distant-looking eyes fixed on what she was doing, appearing as if she was lost in her own world even though she wasn't.
(Oh hi guys... I suck. 8D;;;; So does this post. The end.)

Fiore couldn't stand his own silence any longer. He cleared out his throat and solemnly sat his berries aside, a sympathetic smile lighting the corners of his face. " He'll let go of those feelings when he's good and ready. For the time being, I'm sure that he's trying his hardest to find the peace within himself. " Fiore maneuvered around to better situate himself on the beach. Suddenly uncomfortable with turning the attention to himself, he stuffed a berry in his mouth and looked down. For some strange, undeniably creepy reason Fiore felt somewhat brotherly towards Eli. He knew the pain of having the one you love most torn from your life and knew all too well what it could do to your heart.
Mikaila turned her head to the side and chewed on the inside of her lip. A familial and rebellion mark? Men were such weird creatures. She trotted faster to keep up with his stride and gently grasped his hand with both of hers. A faint magenta blush covered her cheeks and she prayed that he wouldn't see it." Well, they look nice. I really like them. " Giggling, she shook her head and shook the rings in her ears. " Their alot like mine. " Of course, she wasn't planning on telling him how she'd gotten them or what she'd had to do to acheive them. Yet.

Elitalov stiffened at the touch of her hands, grasping them with his own one lightly before he could stop himself. He quickly pulled away, clutching his hands to his chest. "Um- sorry," he stuttered, not noticing her blush as his face turned red. "I just- I never- I can't-" He shook his head and took a breath to calm himself. "Sorry, I'm probably making too big a deal out of it." He grinned sheepishly, feeling like a fool. How could he react like that? It was just holding hands; it didn't have to mean anything. Of course, the only other person he'd ever held hands with in the forest on a romantic moonlit night was Naina, although they had stood much closer...
Pushing away the appealing thought of standing closer to Mikaila, Eli finally noticed the light blushed, although it had probably faded at his outburst. "Mikaila... are you blushing?" he asked, grinning now that he wasn't the only blushing fool. Except that Mikaila really wasn't a fool at all compared to him and his insecurities... which his younger sister had always told him to let go of.
Evisule smiled at Fiore for his kind words, which turned into a grin as she looked down at the little cervi tugging on her ear. "Yesyesyes?" she replied.
Detnuadnu kept a neutral face on the outside, but inside he was pouting. Again, he knew he should be worrying more about Eli, but he couldn't help but wish that he could have some alone time with Sweetfern.
(Yeah Sea, if anyone sucks, it's Eli with his emotional mood swings. Poor Evi and Mika, they have to deal with him the most. XDDD )

Det might have pouted even more to have access to Sweetfern's thoughts at that moment, because she was wondering about practical things like whether or not he intended to have her paddle him back to their island in the dark. If so, he was barking up the wrong tree. But she supposed that they were going to stay the night here, and, she was surprised to realize, that was fine with her. The cervitaurs seemed decent enough types. Detnuadnu, on the other hand...
She smiled at her joke to herself and glanced at him out of the corner of her eye without moving her head. There was no way he was finished with the game for tonight. She'd have to watch him closely.
Cupping his hands around his mouth Furze whispered into Evi's ear -- loudly enough that the point of cupping his hands was completely defeated. "I'm all done. What I do with that?" He poked the bones with a hoof.
Meanwhile, Sweetfern thought it was time to let the conversation turn to less depressing things, so she asked Fiore innocently, "So, how do you know Mikaila?"

The sudden question floored him. Fiore choked on a berry, nearly losing his lungs because he was coughing so hard. He took several, deep breaths to steady himself. To answer the question, would mean having to say some about his own past and he wasn't sure if he was ready to do that. Still, it would be rude to ignore Sweetfern.
" We used to live in the same village together for a time. She was a rather...interesting child when I first met her. " Despite the horrible memories assaulting him, what little good ones remained was enough to make him smile. " She would never leave her mothers side, even when she was physically assaulting people she didn't like. No-one ever openly teased her about her bright pelt but I think she thought they did. So, naturally, she sought out those who she thought were the criminals and attacked. " He grimaced a bit, rubbing his temple. " Hit me with a stone, she did. After Petunia woke me up, I -" Why did he just say that? When he told himself he'd never say her name again, why did he do it? Fiore instantly closed his mouth.
At first, Mikaila panicked when he pulled away. Every bone in her body was sounding off alarm bells. She suddenly wanted to bolt and never look back, but she couldn't do that to Eli. " It-its alright, don't worry about it. I shouldn't have done that. You have every right to not want to be touched. " By me, she thought. How could he make her forget about her 'disability' and yet make her feel even more exposed at the same time? She took a couple steps away from him, wrapping her arms securely around herself and scrunching her head lower down.
She blinked a few times and gave a ghost of a smile. " I guess...I am. " Mikaila reached up with one hand to touch her warm cheek, not surprised at all to find it getting cooler by the minute. Shaking her head from side to side, she wrapped her hand back around her body and walked on ahead. " Come on, it's getting late. We've spent enough time out here dawdling. "

This time, Mikaila's look as she wrapped her arms around herself and lowered her head reminded him not of Naina, but of himself. Whenever he had been feeling as insecure as Mika looked, Naina had always been there to comfort him. But what could he do without giving her the wrong impression? Or rather, the right impression, as he knew he liked her, no matter how much he denied it outwardly.
"Mikaila," he began, but didn't know what else to say. Should he hold her hand? Maybe, but he had pretty much just rejected her trying to do the same thing. He could put an arm around her shoulders... but he wasn't sure if either of them wanted to be that close at the moment. So, hoping he could think of something better the next morning, he finished lamely, "...Yeah, you're right, Evi'll be worried and I still need to... apologize..." He couldn't help but make a silly face at the word, seeing as how it was something he rarely did.
Evi nodded to the close-by trees. "Just throw them into the forest, Furze. Let's see how far you can throw, hmm?" She smiled, assuming that he would like to throw it himself rather than have her do it, as he was very full of energy and mischief.
She listened to Fiore as well, and when the name Petunia came up, his reaction to it seemed very similar to Eli's reaction to Naina being mentioned.
Detnuadnu raised an eyebrow, noticing the same thing as Evi, also not saying anything about it. Hoping to lighten the mood, he teased, "You sure do have a way with questions, don't you, Sweetfern?" Grinning, he shook his head. "And cervis seem to have "interesting" pasts. I myself was a pretty boring child, learning how to manage the smithy and all. The real fun came when I was a teen and had learned how to make rudimentary jewelry to impress the girls." His grin grew wider. He generally tried not to draw everyone's attention to focus solely on him as self-absorption could get annoying, and didn't really want to monopolize the conversation, but felt that it would be better than having Sweetfern and the cervis getting too uncomfortable remembering old times. "They'd flock to me, at first for the cheap metal bracelets, but as I grew out of my awkward young teens, all they wanted was to be close to my dashing good looks and superb fighting skills."
He waggled his eyebrows, causing Evi to giggle a little. She was glad Eli had found Det at that time in his life when he was most tense and focused on revenge, as the red wolftaur was pretty good at dispelling tension.
(OMG, I thought of something perfect. When Furze throws the bones... they could hit Eli. XDDD On his chest or stomach or something, we wouldn't want Eli to get an eye poked out or anything. =P )

(Haa poor Eli. XD I'll write it so you can have that happen.)
This sounded like a most magnificent idea to the young cervitaur. He scooped up the bones, now with sand clinging all over the strings of leftover meat, and scampered to the edge of the forest.
"Watch me watch me!" he called to the adults. He screwed up his face, tongue poking out, and flung one of the bones with all of his might -- very formidable indeed. Staggering from the effort he looked up expectantly to see it clatter off the side of a tree. "Yaaah!" He turned back and held up his arms triumphantly. "Watch again!" When he threw the second bone it ricocheted off the same tree with a thock! and disappeared into the darkness.
Jubilant, Furze dashed back to the fire, stopping suddenly with a spray of sand and launching himself upon Evisule. He hung from around her shoulders for a moment before dropping so he could clap his greasy, sandy hands. "All gone!"
Sweetfern furrowed her brow anxiously when she saw Fiore's reaction, but when Det also noticed her knack for asking the wrong things she smiled. "Seems so... I'm sorry," she said, directing the apology at the cervitaur. Grateful for the distractions provided by Det and Furze, she resolved not to ask any more questions.
When Det spoke of jewelry it gave Sweetfern a pawhold and she immediately regained her composure, putting on an air of injury. "You give jewelry to all the girls?" Slipping into a sultry smile she shifted her position, bringing her closer to Det -- completely by accident, of course. "And here I thought I was the only one."

{ xD LOFL! That'd be so great! }
His touch caught her off gaurd enough to give her startled brain enough of a kick start to look up at him. Her mouth couldn't have dropped any lower. His face....Good Gods, his face! Mikaila's dumbfounded expression turned into bust gusting laughter within the second. She used her arms to support her sides as she roared. " You really should...see your face... " It was hard to talk around her giggling fit but she just couldn't help herself! Evi was always so serious and to see that goofy expression so out of the blue was priceless.
She found that she quite enjoyed it. Mikaila decided then in her mind that he should do it more often and just as properly placed. When she find herself able to breath again, she righted herself and sucked in a deep breath, letting it out on a sigh. " I'm guessing that you don't appologize often. " A sudden brush against her leg caused her to look down and to her surprise, a berry bush hung out to her. The small twigs were weighed down with the sheer mass of the purplish berries. " Oh, look! We should bring these pack to the others. " Mikaila bent down to pick some, lowering her petite body down even lower to the ground, out of possible rang of any attackers, passerbys, or, say, projectiles.
Fiore grinned at the woltaurs words. The wolftaurs that he'd met in the past were nothing compared to this pair. They seemed at ease, even a bit happy to be in the company of cervis. It intrigued him and make him revise everything he knew about their kind.
With the little one going off to toss the bone scraps into the forest, Fiore's paternal instincts kicked in and he found himself rising up, keeping a vigilant eye on the boy. When the first struck it's target, he clapped his hand and called out, " Good job! " Then, for then others he merely watched. For their sake, he hoped that no-one was in the forest. He couldn't only make an assumption that a rabbit bone to the face could hurt.
Fiore didn't seem inclined to sit back down when the little deer came back. He seemed too be very energetic and he himself was getting a bit anxious. The wolftaurs obviously wanted some time alone, so what if-? " Furze, " Fiore smiled the childs way. " What do you say to a game of tag?And of course, Evisule could come and play too if she'd like. "

The painted wolftaur shook his head. "No, but you are the only one I've ever had to make a weapon for." He leaned in a bit closer to wink. "And that makes you special."
Eli pouted when she burst out laughing. "Why, what's wrong with my face?" When she was calmed a bit more, he replied, "No, apologizing's not really my thing. But Evi always wants me to be nicer, and I love my little sister enough to-" He was cut short as a bone, probably a medium-sized one from a rabbit's leg, hit him in the stomach. Normally it wouldn't have been more than a tap against his belly, seeing as he wasn't all that delicate, but this bone came out of the dark like a rocket.
"Oww!" he burst out after a moment or two of shock, clutching where it had hit, a light bruise already appearing. It would probably be healed overnight, but at that moment the pain wasn't that fun to deal with.
When Furze came back, Evi returned his brief hug, laughing at his cute exuberance. At Fiore's suggestion she nodded, understanding what he was trying to do for the wolftaur. But as she stood up, her brother could be heard. "Eli?" she called.
The annoyed face of the gren cervi could be seen as he came out of the forest, rubbing his hurt stomach. "Okay, who threw the bone?" he growled, sounding similar to an angry old wolftaur.
Det blinked and grinned. "Furze did, Eli. Why, did the little cervi's bone hurt your tummy?"
Evi couldn't help but giggle at the death glare of doom that Eli shot at his wolftaur friend. "Oh Eli, in all seriousness, are you really hurt?" she asked, going over to inspect him.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," he muttered, brushing her hand off his bruise. "It's nothing. But that kid's got a good arm." He paused now, glancing at Fiore, knowing he should say something, but still hesitant to do so, especially with everyone watching, like Mikaila. But then, maybe it would be better with everyone watching, so they wouldn't all think he was a maniac cervi who exploded at the littlest things.

Sweetfern flicked Det's arm when he made fun of Eli, her raised eyebrow mostly amused, but still managing to reprimand him a bit. It looked to her like Eli was reluctant to even return, and that this was literally just adding insult to injury. Of course, it really was funny that the baby's throw had caused a bruise.
Right in the middle of getting psyched up for a game of tag with the grown-ups, Furze had to pause and figure out why everybody was all tense again, and, more to the point, why they weren't paying attention to him anymore. Furze stomped his hoof and cleared his throat, which was more of a loud sniffing noise than anything, and when that failed to get attention he crossed his arms and pouted.
It had something to do with Eli returning, he could tell that much. They were all talking to him. Well, this wouldn't do. Furze darted forward, slapped Eli's leg -- the highest part of him that the toddler could easily reach -- and shouted "You're it!" before tearing off across the beach.
Very deliberately using Det's shoulder to pull herself to her paws, Sweetfern smiled at the other adults, ready to bound over the sand herself if they showed any sign of playing the game.

Mikaila stood up and looked over her shoulder, sure that Eli had pricked himself on one of the thorn bushes lying around. Her eyes widened when she saw him clutching his stomach. She dropped the berries she had picked, incidently squishing dark juices all over his fingers as she wandered closer to his side. " What happened? Are you alright? " Something whitish on the forest floor caught her eye. Mikaila burst out into a fresh fit of giggles when she saw what it was.
Fiore grinned from his position, he shook his head knowingly and lifted time weathered eyes to the merry little group he had been drug into. Rightfully, he was pleased with the lot of them and hadn't had this much fun in ages. As the youngling made his swipe, Fiore reared up on his hind legs to spin himself around, but not without giving a glance Eli's way and cocking his head in the way that Furze had taken off.
" Run, Mikaila or he'll get you! " Fiore chuckled as he bolted down the beach.
Sneakily, she lowered her body closer to the ground for a quick sprint away from Eli, then slowed down a bit to grab Evi's hand. " Let's go together. If we double team, he won't know which way to go. " Mikaila winked. Since he didn't seem to be in much pain, she figured that a good game couldn't possibly harm him in any way. In fact, he was probably long over due for a dosage of fun.

The grumpy cervi tried to glare at the playful toddler, but Furze's cuteness was too much even for him. Instead, he crossed his arms and with a "Hmph" lay down on the ground. "It's late, and I'm going to bed. You all can play your silly games if you want to," he stated simply in a way that almost sounded arrogant.
Evi, all excited and tensed to run with Mikaila, sighed as her brother was a party pooper. "You know, Eli, you used to be fun and play whenever you got a chance..." she whined with a hint of a pout.
"Yeah, well now I'm old, tired, and 'un-fun'," he replied, laying on his stomach, gripping the opposite elbow with each hand, and using that as a pillow for his forehead so that his face was looking at the ground without being flat in the dirt. Apparently the apology would have to wait until morning.
Evisule sighed again. Although she did agree that it was getting late, she hadn't played a game with her older brother since before Naina was killed. She also hadn't played a game period in more than a week, since she had been with Eli during that time to go meet Detnuadnu, and wasn't able to be with her adopted siblings who played a lot more often. She would have said more to try to get him to get up and play, but she didn't want to make his mood worse, and hopefully he would be less grumpy in the morning. With such great company, how could he not improve after a night of rest?
With a snicker, Det rubbed his arm where Sweetfern had flicked him. He rolled his eyes at Eli's childish behavior. At least, the negative and uncalled-for mood swings of a child. Other types of childish behavior Det enjoyed, like playing games... which he thought would be fun with Sweetfern, as games could always include more flirting. But Eli had now somewhat damaged the previous playful mood set by Furze. Of course, Furze and Fiore were still running on the beach, so there was a chance yet.
Normally by now Det's relationship with the chosen pretty female would be well on its way to having a night full of fun, but of course, there was the minor problem of all the cervis around stopping Det from having a bit more fun with Sweetfern, not to mention the toddler. And also, it seemed right to wait, spend a bit more time flirting and such this time.
