Jerome watched Eva walk away, a scowl on his face. “Vile woman. Tch. She thinks I’m her friend?” the man resumed walking, “I hope she was being sarcastic.” He continued on his way till he met up with the rear part of Lieutenant Vawl’s troops. Silently slipping in among the ranks, Jerome followed them as they headed for the southern part of Borgerwood.
-----
“It’s about time I found it.” Eva said to herself as she walked into the tavern. “Seems like a… quaint place.” Eva noted that she received more than a few stares and dirty looks from some of the patrons. Ignoring them, she walked up to the bar, clacking her rod against the floor. The woman ordered herself a beer, confused at the strange look the bartender gave her. She repeated her request and in no time she found herself sitting down with a mug full of the refreshing liquid. It must have been considered unladylike to waltz in and ask for a beer; but Eva was a woman of the Empire. She could damn well ask for a beer if she wanted to.

It’s rather quiet here… I guess those guards weren’t lying. She sighed, What did I expect though? I guess the Captain was telling the truth. What do they need Dark Artists here for anyways?

Dastri smiled at the captain's brash questions, feeling the hatred within him swell. Oh how he detested the Imperials, self-righteous and thoroughly rotten oafs. But still, something about this particular Imperial made him pause, Dastri could see a sort of integrity within the powerful man. In another life, perhaps they could have been comrades.

Dastri had readied an onslaught of curses against the man, but sighed. No, he could see the sadness within the soldier's eyes. There was honor within him and Dastri felt sympathy towards the Imperial. He lowered his verbal cannons and spoke gently.

"I'd sooner die than help you."

shinsei walked dwon the street looking about. he sighed almost wishing an upstart would cause trouble. he walked to the front of a stand and looked over the things there. eventually he purchased a drink and walked away thanking the man. he continued to walk about with nothing to do until a young man bumped into him. he grabed the boys arm as he reached under shinsei's cloak and said "nothing but trouble here boy." he let go and the kid ran away. he sighed and kept walking.

"I'll see what I can see," Helen responded. "Who better? I'm human, I'm not armed too much improperly as to be arrested, and, let's face it, I'm quieter than any of you all."

Aeolin shrugged. "She's right; she'd be the perfect choice for any city scouting we need done." She took another quick swig of beer, then finished, "If anything happens, she slips away unnoticed."

Captain Tonash sighed deeply as he regarded the captive elf.
"Very well then. If you will not aid me willingly, I shall have you imprisoned for now and, to my great disliking, have you questioned by Barghest when he returns. I really feel sorry for you, elf. I offered you kindness and you refused and I fear I am sentencing you to a fate far worse than death. Know only this: you've brought it upon yourself.
Guards!"
Two soldiers popped into the tent and saluted the captain.
"Take this prisoner to the holding room in the prison complex. I will come and check up on him again later."
"Yes sir."
The two guards promptly approached the wounded and bound elf and helped him to his feet, guiding him out of the tent and into the chill evening air on their way to the prison compound within the southern mountain foothills.
War is so unbelievably cruel and in essence, it is derived of that very same stubborness that was shown a few moments ago. Remaining unwilling to any other option than your own...
"We're all fools..." He sighed as he glanced out the folds of the tent into the horizon.

Barghest remained unseen within the midst of the rebel-filled tavern, his invisibility wards still holding true. A scowl had found its way to his face when nothing had been occurring of interest, aside from the dissappointing news that the foolish Captain was not going to attack until provoked first.
How can I make this more interesting... Hmmm....
He noted the doorway to the wine cellar and an exceptionally wicked and sadistic grin formed itself.
I think I've got an idea! Hehehehehe....
With a silent cackle of glee, he slipped down the cellar while nobody was looking and viewed the wonderful stockpile of alcohol and wine, the dank cellar was illuminated only by a pair of torches and no other person was to be found in this cavernous storage area.
Barghest dismissed his invisibility wards and quickly began stockpiling as much of the alcoholic containers together as possible, making sure when he was finished to leave a trail of the liquid straight to the pile.
Another cackle of sheer mischief emitted from the shadow mage as he grasped one of the nearby torches and tossed it onto the trail of liquid, setting it aflame as it began to work its way towards the massive stockpile.
He threw on his hood and quickly ran up out of the cellar and exited the tavern so fast that the patrons of the bar may have perceived it as a flash of black light and a gust of wind.
He was a good block away from the tavern as he spun about to enjoy his handiwork as he kneeled down at a safe position and turned to view the show with a wild-eyed grin.

The guards guiding Dastri to his prison spared him no grief, screaming at the elf to stand when he "fell" and they beat him in between their jeers. But their words, their actions were wasted. Dastri had retreated to the most remote corner of his mind, seeking solace within his head. He moved with a mechanical-like stiffness, a sharp contrast to his normally purposeful and graceful gait. The guards tossed him into his prison cell, seperated, but under much more scrutiny than the other cells. There, he awoke and was nearly overwhelmed by the immense pain from his many wounds.

Dastri wanted to escape, but as he looked around and surveyed his surroundings, he knew it was impossible in his weakened state. Far too many guards and far too many wounds. Dastri shifted into an Indian-style sitting position and closed his eyes, retreating back into the safety of his mind.

He was going to die. There could be no redemption for the captured warrior.

Captain Tonash darted outside his tent when he heard the explosion. He looked into the town of Borgerwood as a single building was engulfed in flames. Screams and shouting roared rampantly across the cool night air.
Guards assembled before him, including Lieutenant Vawl.
"What in the name of the elders was that?" he yelled above the commotion.
"We're not entirely sure, m'lord," Vawl stated, "We believe it could either be an act of the Resistance or an accidental incident."
Tonash sighed and glanced back to the town.
"Get a squadron of men into the town, do not begin the assault. My orders are to put out the flames, gather information and tend to the injured."
"Acknowledged, sir."
With that, the troops scattered in their respective directions as Tonash wiped his forehead with a tired hand as he let out a deep sigh.

Barghest hummed with child-like glee as he strolled outside the city gates. How he loved causing chaos and madness. No doubt, numerous had died in that blast, and even more injured.
Who knows, perhaps by destroying that little hole, I may have sparked the conflict that will begin the all-out-battle! Wouldn't that just be fantastic! Heheheehee!
His grin melted away as he neared the Imperial camp, knowing that he would have to speak with the morally-chained Captain. How he loathed dealing with one so enriched in duty and fealty.
Hopefully all he would have to say is: "You have your orders, get out of my sight."
Oh how wonderful that would be!

shinsei watched as the flames spread. he sighed as men rushed to extinguish the fires and wondered if he should help. he walked over to stand where he could feel the heat of the blaze against his skin. he closed his eyes and stood in the midst of the destruction completly calm.

Dalneik

PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:02 am

[[Ugh, I feel so awful about this... anyways, I'm not going to try to make an excuse for my unexplained absence, so I'll simply say, life took a strange twist for me, and as such has begun to eat up most of my spare time. I sincerely apologize for having abandoned this, but I don't intend to let it die. New characters have been added into the approved list. As well, I give anybody involving their character with Dalneik limited control (move him, talk to / for him, travel with him) over him in order to keep the storyline moving to help compensate for my sudden lack of time.

Once again, my sincerest apologies for this... redface ]]

Captain Tonash glared at the map spread taut across the table, surveying exactly how the explosion could have begun and how it could be best contained.
"What accident could have caused this?"

"It could very well have been an act of the Resistance, good Captain."
Tonash let out an overwhelmingly deep sigh as he recognized that serpentine voice.
"Barghest... Where have you been all this time?"

"Oh, sightseeing of course. This little backwater town is actually culturally rich, astonishingly enough."
"Don't play coy with me. You had a hand in this, didn't you?"
"Me? Why, I don't ever see how you could even think that I would go and do such a thing! Frankly, I'm hurt."
"Spare me. You bring chaos and despair wherever you go. If Valmont himself hadn't sent you down here, I would've forced you to return before sundown."
"Oh, my good friend, I---"
"Silence!"
The captain glared viciously at the shadowy mage.
"Believe it or not, I have need of your "talents"... We have an elf in our custody, who I am fairly certain knows something regarding the Resistance, however, he does seem quite adamant in refusing to divulge any information. Go to him now, and learn what you can from him, but do not kill him. I will be going to the prison complex as soon as I am able to check on his status. I do intend to see a living prisoner with his information extracted by the time I arrive. Do you understand, Barghest?"

The sadistic magi had a malicious gleam in his eye as he smiled and nodded.
"As you wish, Captain."

"Dismissed."
As Barghest turned to exit the tent, he could feel the captain's hatred for him burning down on his back as though his very gaze was that of the sun itself.
How he enjoyed that feeling so much!

((In order to hopefully keep things moving, pardon the double post))
Barghest could not believe he was being given the opportunity to torture and "Persuade" in the field. It was an unbelievable gift, and to be authorized at that!
He couldn't be happier.
Barghest entered into the prison area, nestled in the foothills, near the Borgerwood gold mines. Several guards were positioned at numerous cells, with the warden sitting in the back in a dimly lit section of the cavern complex.
The soldier glanced up and nearly did a double take as he observed the shadow mage's grim visage.
"I am here to interrogate the elf that was dragged in here recently. Which cell is he located in?"

"Erm, we've been instructed that he not see anyone."
Barghest's gaze narrowed menacingly.
"Listen, worm. I have direct orders from Captain of Battalion A to interrogate this prisoner. Now inform me of which cell he is currently residing in, and remove the guards from that wing, I don't want to be interrupted in my work."
With a reluctant nod, the warden pointed to the western prison wing and Barghest scoffed, heading that direction, shooing the guards who were moving out of the wing and into the main hall.
As he reached the iron bars of the cell, he glanced in, seeing the bald elf, and grinning maliciously, opening the door.
"Hello..." His voice dripped with venom and sadistic glee.
"You must be the one I've heard so much about, little elf."
The elf said nothing, but regarded him with disdain as he entered the room.
"Not even going to give your name? Oh, how I do love the stubborn ones. We are going to have so much fun!"
With a flick of his hand, a black whip materialized into his grip and he lashed out, the tongues of the whip ripping into the elf's back.
"Now, please, tell me everything. About yourself, about the Resistance, and about the defenses placed in Borgerwood."
No answer.
"Thank you for this!"
He cackled with glee and lashed out twice more, causing the elf to grimace in pain.
"If you haven't noticed, I'm the epitome of a sadist, so you're going to be making me happy whether you respond or not. I'd just go ahead and inform me before I wind up causing your death due to lack of blood. Especially since my fun is just beginning!"
