"Um..." Siri scuffed the dirt with her left foot, just noticing now that she was wearing boots. She pondered that for a few seconds before returning to the present. She really didn't know what to say. The man seemed to relly like this plain, but to her, it just looked...empty. Almost devoid of life. She hadn't seen any animals or insects since arriving. Hell, she hadn't even heard birdsong.

"Well, " she started slowly, trying to word her thoughts in a way that wouldn't offend the man. Eventually, she decided to just tell the truth. A part of it, anyway. "It's...nice, I guess. Peaceful. But I like forests better. Mountains are the best, though."

It was true, too. Her parents had taken her skiing a few years ago, and she'd loved it. Of course, she'd snowboarded, but that didn't matter. The mountain was just so beautiful, so pure...It was perfect.

Francis slowed to a stop and panted. She was gone. With a sigh, he turned back.

Willow turned her head. Her hair whipped and blew around her face. Opening her mouth to speak, Willow began spitting out her hair.

"We're looking for one of Them." Rowan shouted, glancing at the boy. "I'm Rowan, that's Willow." Up head he spotted Francis. "Stop." Rowan threw his arm out in front of Willow, who screeched to a halt.

Doragon kept running after he heard "them" but only because of his momentum and he finally stopped while right behind Rowan. "I'm Doragon." He didn't dare say his last name, because his guess would be they'd run away and start yelling, It's the demon boy it's the demon boy, run! But his first name wasn't that common so he might have trouble anyway. Or they might be the first people he'd ever met who hadn't heard his name or were actually nice enough to be his friend. He was sorta famous, but in the bad way because he was the last of his lineage. He guessed there'd be a holiday called: The last of the demon lineage died day celebrated on the anniersary of his death after he did die.

"Where'd she go?" Rowan asked, marching promptly up to Francis.

"I don't know." He replied. "She just disappeared. Probably woke up."

"Doragon, huh?" Willow said, more to herself than anyone else. "Odd name." She stared at the boy. He looked familiar.

"Yeah." Please don't recognize me. Please don't recognize me. Doragon thought.

Aria slid onto a stool at her kitchen counter, gulping water from her mostly empty bottle, and watched as Whitney half-fell into the seat next to her. "I can't believe I went to dance," Whitney moaned, brushing dark red bangs off her sweaty forehead.
"Don't cry to me," gasped Aria, coming up for air, "I got even less sleep than you did." She sent a pointed glare in the direction of her friend.
"I said I was sorry," mumbled Whitney, studying the marble counter.
"Who cares about sorry," snapped Aria. Normally she would have been a bit more merciful, but she was in an understandably horrible mood. "Did you get the party back on, or not?"
Whitney sighed, twirling her ponytail around her fingers. "Not yet. Mom's completely freaking out. Not that she knows the kid."
"She's never seen him?" asked Aria, curious in spite of herself.
Whitney shook her head, her brown eyes serious. "Nope. I think she's setting herself up for heartbreak, but obviously my opinion wasn't asked for." She rolled her eyes. "I don't think the boyfriend even knows she has a daughter."Aria nodded vaguely, drinking from her water bottle again. Whitney's face became suddenly intense. "Actually, the whole thing's pretty weird. Obviously this is second hand, but..." she trailed off, waiting for the go ahead. Aria gave it by raising her eyebrows expectantly.
"Well," continued Whitney eagerly, "The kid's still unconscious, right? And they hook him up and do all these brain scans to make sure there's no damage, 'cause he's pretty banged up. And this is the weird bit. All the parts of the brain that are supposed to be active when he's asleep are, but so are all the parts that are supposed to be active when he's awake, as well as parts of the brain that aren't supposed to be active at all! The boyfriend's flipping out, of course, but the kid was supposed to be pretty weird to begin with-" she broke off, noticing the expression on Aria's face. "What? What's that look for?"
"Gonna go shower," said Aria, her voice sounding overly bright to her own ears. "Help yourself to whatever." She started to walk out, as quickly as she could without seeming scared, but then stopped. Turning around casually, she asked, "What's the kid's name?"
Whitney's face was lost and a little frightened. "I don't remember."
"Kay. Gotta shower." With that, Aria fled to the bathroom, trying to escape the horrible idea that this was exactly how a fly felt right before it realized the thing it was caught in was a web.

Monollius bore a genuine grin on his face and patted Siri's head lightly. "Hajen'Ukrinik: Stairwell to the Celestials. Have you seen them, child? The most beauteous range of mountains to ever exist. Truly a sign of the existence of our higher Powers. Nine pairs of mountain peaks, leading right toward the high noon sun." He walked a slow circle around Siri as he spoke, his staff aiding his every step. "Now, this plain, though... It is a prime example of what the world no longer is. It enhances my life with its emptiness. Some day, every plain will be filled, every wood torn asunder. People will inhabit every nook and cranny of our fair world, and tear each other apart for the slightest inch of living space..."

Kat turned around and ran through the forest, noticing wearily that the branches whipped out of her way of their own accord. she ran until she bumped into one of the elves she had seen by the water earlier. she sat down, hard, then stood back up again. she saw the newcomer, another elf by the looks of him, and sighed. 'oh, goodie, more elves.' her green hair was tangled and she brushed it out of her face, tucking it behind a pointed ear.

Siri blinked an tried not to feel offended as the man patted her head, as though she was a dog. Still, her mouth settled into a thin line when Monollius called her 'child'. Sure, she wasn't an adult yet, but she was sixteen! Hardly a child by today's standards. Despite her mental convictions at not being a child, Siri had to resist the urge to stick her tongue out at this strange man.

"Er...no. I've never seen Ha...Haje...whatever it was. Sorry. I don't even know what the hell they are, nevermind where they are." She followed the man with her eyes as he circled her, wondering what his point was. It was kind of creepy the way he was circling her. It reminded Siri of the sharks in cartoons she'd watched as s child. They'd always circled their victim before opening their mouth full of razor sharp teeth. The thought of this man being a shark sent shivers up Siri's spine, for although he didn't look like much of a threat, she sensed Monollius could be dangerous if he wanted to. Clearing her throat nervously, she said,

"Well, yeah. people tend to - "

BEEP BEEP BEEP

Siri awoke with a start. What the...? She caught sight of her alarm clock, which was making the annoying noise that had woken her, and jumped to her feet. Crap!

Quickly, she shoved her books into her bag and got dressed. She literally ran into the kitchen, grabbing a piece of toast and leaving the apartment before her parents could even register her presense. She ran to the bus stop, panting. The other kids gave her odd looks, but Siri ignored them. She must have slept through her first alarm, the one set to wake her up, and woken at the second, the one that normally told her she needed to get to her bus stop. Sighing, she flopped down onto the ground to wait for the bus.

When it arrived a few minutes later, Siri clambered on and quickly took a window seat. That was one of the good things about having the early bus stops, you could always get your pick of seat before the bus got two crowded. Siri pulled out her Geometry homework and began working, ocassionally rubbing her arms to try and get rid of the goosebumps left on her arms after that dream...

"Well, that's not doing us any good." Rowan sighed as he ran his hands down his face.

"Yeah," Francis had no clue as to why he was agreeing. He began to shiver. "Does it feel cold to you." He asked watching his breath drift up into the clear sky.

Rowan slowly shook his head.

"What's your last name?" Willow asked softly touching her fist to her forehead, trying to remember.

*~*

Francis woke up with his knees up at his chest. It was freezing. He sat up and pulled his shades to the side. Snow blanketed the ground and drifted from the sky.

Looking at his clock, Francis' heart stopped his bus came in seven minutes.

After scrambling to change, he tripped down the stairs and met his sister, bundled up with a mug in her hand, getting ready to leave. "What are you doing?" She asked. Her voice was muffled by a large scarf.

"I have to go." Francis gasped, pulling on boots.

"No you don't" She explained, pulling her scarf down to talk. "Snow day, there's eighteen inches out there."

Aria walked out of the steamy bathroom, wrapped in a fluffy robe and feeling much better. Grabbing her comb, she walked back into the kitchen. Whitney wasn't there; she could hear the television blaring from the other room. She shrugged, sat down in a soft chair, and began running the comb through her long, golden hair. It was hard to feel very worried about anything when you were sitting in your warm, homey kitchen after after a hot shower...

*~*
Aria opened her eyes with a jolt. "No! I'm falling..." She trailed off as she realized she was back in the forest, the same forest that had whatever the wall had actually been in it. "Asleep," she finished, her heart speeding up exponentially. What could she do? If she could just find somewhere to hide until Whitney woke her up!
But that probably wasn't going to work, she realized, something hard forming in the pit of her stomach. Rowan and Willow were standing only a few yards away; Willow was talking to another boy, and Rowan was talking to Francis- Aria's eyes widened, because suddenly, Francis just wasn't there. Was that what happened when she woke up?

Monollius sighed, almost regretfully. "It's something you must see, child," he said, looking out at the plain. "Why, they are the most glorious--" When he spun to face Siri once more, she was gone. "--...shape Nature has to offer us..." He sighed again. "She could have merely informed me I was of no interest. Such horrible manners." His eyes turned to the plains before him. "I will miss you." And as if on cue--

Leonidus sat up quickly. He was coughing, choking, suffocating. Something was in the way, and it had to be moved. The gag reflex kicked in, and Leonidus leaned over the gurney. The piece of his own cheek that had become lodged in his throat, now became dislodged, and spattered on the tiled flooring with bile and collected blood. Feeling dizzy, he almost fell over the side as well, but a hand of latex showed him the way back to the pillow. With a shaky breath, he lay back again, and tried to fall asleep. Try as he might, though, he could not find rest.

He experienced the entire trip to his ER room, the hospital jargon flying through his ears incoherently. When the gurney stopped, the jargon continued to batter his drums, but otherwise had no direct effect upon him. A needle was driven into his right arm, and a monitor attached to his left finger, but otherwise, he did not feel a thing. Hell, he couldn't even feel his own eyelids... Was he drugged? Must be...

Siri arrived at school, Geometry homework done. She went to her her first period class, P.E., and had to spend an hour running laps with the rest of the class. Her next class was Geometry, and she attended this with a heavy heart. It was her least favorite subject, and the teacher was a real p***k. Apparently, he'd decided that last night's homework should become a test grade. The whole class groaned.

Siri's best friend, Sara, passed her a folded piece of paper across their desk, not daring to look away from the formulas their teacher was writing down on the board. Siri unfolded the paper and saw a few words.

I bet his wife went out to shag that bar guy again, and he caught them.

Siri stiffled a laugh. At a school like hers, the gossip got around extraordinarily fast, even if it was about the teachers. Siri pulled out a pen and scrawled back,

You're right. I bet they did it in the dining room with the candlestick. I've got this dream to tell you about, by the way. It was...wierd.

She passed the note back to Sara, and actually started copying down the formulas. Maybe they'd help her with tonight's homework. She'd just finished writing when the piece of paper slid towards her and off the desk. She bent down and grabbed the paper under the guise of looking for an eraser in her bag. When she resurfaced, she saw the teacher's eyes on her. Smiling innocently, she held up the eraser, note folded behind it. The teacher frowned and turned back to the board.

The smile fading, Siri opened the note.

Ewwww....bad image. Have you ever seen his wife? Not pretty. I thought you never remembered your dreams, though?

Siri doodled a picture of a dragon with her teacher's face in the margin of the paper. She drew a bit of fire comnig out of his enlarged nose, then went back to the note.

I don't, but this one was really vivid. It was like -

Siri jumped as a loud bang sounded right next to her ear. She looked up to see her teacher's angry red face looming above her. "Um....yes?"

The teacher yanked the note out from under her hands and said, "Writing notes in class again, eh, Viso? Maybe I should just read this out loud to the class, then."

Siri's eyes met Sara''s across the aisle. Her best friend was covering her mouth, trying not to laugh. Siri felt a similiar feeling, but mixed with dread. She was the one who was going to get blamed for the note. She slouched down in her chair and looked pointedly away from the teacher as he began to read the note. He'd gotten halfway through the first sentence when her stopped speaking. His eyes went wide and his mouth opened and shut soundlessly for a few seconds while the class burst out in laughter.

When he managed to find his voice, he yelled, "Office, Viso! Now!"

Wiping a bit of spittle of her face, Siri shoved her books in her bag and got up. Waving pleasantly to the class, she left, going to the office. Once there, she was told to wait in a poofy chair until the principal was done with his metting. The way the receptionist looked at the clock told Siri he wasn't expected out for quite a while. Sighing, she settled down into the chair, closing her eyes. That guys Monollius had been wierd...

*~*

Siri was standing in the plain again, alone now. A quick look around told her she was roughly in the same position as she'd been when she woke up, judging from the distance of the hill she had first appeared upon. She looked around for Monollius, annoyed that this dream kept popping up. Maybe it meant she needed to do or find something before it would just end. Maybe that Monollius charaacter was her subconcious' way of guiding her to her final destination. Unfortunately, her dream guide was nowhere to be found.

Sighing, she flopped down on the ground, wincing as the sword poked into her back. She'd just have to wait until something happened, then. After all, this was a dream. It wouldn't be peaceful the whole time, right?

((Wah, big post. >_< I just liked the Geometry scene too much, I think. I had that happene to me once, with the teacher reading the note about him out loud. It wasn't really fun...))
PostPosted: Mon Oct 08, 2007 12:26 pm

"We're going to have to put him under. Two broken ribs, a third fractured. Possibly a pierced lung--"

"Just sedate him," a second voice answered. "We need to get going. You can finish the synopsis while you work."

"Yes, sir."

And Leonidus was out once more...

~*~

Monollius lifted his head quickly, disturbed from his nap... "How did I fall asleep?" His gaze shifted quickly, his hand clenching the staff tightly. And there was Siri, seated on the ground. He was standing behind her, so he strode forward. "You could have simply told me I was not striking your interest," he muttered. "That would have been far more kind, and proper." He sighed. "No matter. You have many years to perfect that art."

Last name. . . I might as well tell the truth. . . "Akuma." He said it swiftly and smoothly. While others would accent the A at the beginning he said it with no accents.
