But in the end, she slipped and fell. This time, instead of keeping her thoughts to herself, Elruda yelled out, and made sure she was loud enough for Wrath to hear, anyways. "Stupid sensei, if you're still there, you can bet I'll get out of here, if it's the last thing I do!" Feeling much better, Elruda decided to try again.

Again and again, Elruda attempted to climb from the pit. Each time, she would partially succeed but close to the end she would lose her balance and fall. After around twenty minutes of trying, Elruda sat down and took several deep breaths. After meditating for a moment or two, she was calm enough to try again.

Elruda slipped again but thankfully she wasn't very high up. She was still injured from the previous attempts but it didn't matter. Bruises was nothing compared to future injuries she would receive. And so she tried again to climb the pit's wall.

Elruda made it halfway through this time but the sharp rocks that dug into her skin, along with the other injuries, momentarily made her lose her already weakened chakra control. But nevertheless, she continued to attempt chakra climbing. The harsh rock wall of the pit made gashes on the exposed skin of her legs and arms but she didn’t care. Getting out was much more important.

This time, she was much closer. Resting a bit, Elruda focused more chakra into her feet. This exercise was proving indeed to be difficult. No wonder most Genins learn it only once they get assigned their Jounin teacher. She knew she should feel happy that her new sensei trusted her with such a task. But for the moment, putting her thoughts aside, Elruda returned to mastering chakra climbing.

Again and again she tried but instead of progressing, Elruda felt that she was losing distance. This wouldn’t do. She thought. Now she desperately wished she paid more attention to the chakra control lessons the Hyuuga elders taught back during her younger days in Konoha.

Well, regretting won’t do her any good. She would not forgive Wrath if he abandons her now. She will keep trying, again and again. If it takes her all night to master chakra climbing, so be it. Ignoring the gashes, bruises, and wounds, Elruda began to climb with renewed spirit.

Undaunted by her previous failure, Elruda still continued with chakra climbing. From every failed attempt she would look for what was possibly wrong and learn from the mistake. Even though it frustrated her, this was proving to be quite a learning experience as well.

Learning to apply the correct amount of chakra. Not too little so that I would fall and not too much so that the rock can’t support my weight. Elruda did her best to keep these thoughts in her “mental files”. In the future, when learning more advanced juuken techniques, absolutely perfect chakra control will be required. “And I won’t be able to do that if I don’t master chakra climbing, first.” Elruda mused aloud.

The result was the same but at least now her distance was pretty much staple. She would have to continue trying though, if she was to make it out of the pit. If I concentrate just on what’s ahead of me and not getting out of the pit, It’ll be easier to maintain chakra control.

She was making progress, as she discovered from her last attempt. “Can’t give up…must keep going…” She muttered to herself. By now, she had fallen many times but each time, no matter how much it hurt, she would just get up and continue trying. Determination and the Will to Persevere. You better still be there once I get out, sensei. Elruda thought. Because by now, you should understand a Hyuuga’s personality. NEVER giving up.

Seconds went by, which quickly turned to minutes, then drudged on to half an hour and then an hour. Elruda never gave up trying to master chakra climbing. Cuts and bruises, some black now where the blood have dried, were visible on her arms and legs. Some of her neatly manicured nails were damaged by the rock but Elruda just ignored and patiently bore the pain.

After a while, she figured she should get something to eat and rest a bit. She still had a bit left from the food she brought from Konoha. Quickly, she took a break and ate quietly before resuming to climbing. Elruda briefly wondered how long have gone by.

Patience was a great virtue and Elruda quickly learned that it was hard to come by. When she first began, she was irritated and too ill-tempered to control her chakra well. She had always saw older Hyuugas meditate before practicing their chakra-based techniques. And never once had she saw a clansmember whom mastered Kaiten or any of the other jutsus easily. Failures. Patience. And learning to correct those mistakes.
