Mortal Being
Captain

Captain Reinhert
Current Day

It wasn't like the Captain to get 'star' struck while looking at the young lady. she almost seemed of royal blood, how could he misplace her as a witch? Sure, the horse might be a fierce fiend, but this young lady seemed to hold no part in that. So surely, a lady who ascends from a crater riding a winged horse, that must mean the legends were true, and she really was the fall-

He almost let a laugh as she took a spill, even those from the heavens above could be clumsy that was reassuring... which was his first though, however he noticed something else. It was not her folly, no she was hurt, he seen how her ankle moved as she fell, and the fact that she yelped showed that indeed that she was in pain. Ah such agony, however it seemed she was stubborn beyond even that as she crawled toward him. Such tenacity, surely that of someone who could give them hope. Even the way she spoke, with what appeared to be with such concern, made him feel indeed with a little hope and a renew faith of the legends.

She had asked him a question, was he alright? Well, at least he had his wits about him or he might of spurred off the wrong name,
"Yeah I am fine, nothing can beat down old Ziren," he gave a little chuckle as he thought about their circumstance, and added "I've come here to rescue you, miss?" He paused hoping to find out her name, and added afterwards, "although it looks like you're taking my job." He let out another laugh, but 'ugh' it was a little disheartening to speak or laugh, so he decided that would be it for now. In his current condition, it'd take him an hour or two to move around on his own, although it'd probably take him a good solid three or more days for the soreness to wear off. Of course he couldn't wait till that happened, not that he couldn't handle the pain, it was just that he did not want to get caught with his guard down and force his body to over exert, and become nothing but an overgrown log, so hopefully hey did not 'rough' it up. Actually he already felt like an overgrown log, here he was in a middle of a forest that he had no clue about, and he couldn't even stand up fully.

He gave a small sigh, next time instead of leaping off a horse, he'd leap forward at the creature... although, now that he thought about it, perhaps fate had stopped him from killing the winged horse, because if he did, he'd probably end up hurting the fallen star as well. So indeed it had to be fate's work, after all he was to skilled to mess up that horribly... right?

***

Meanwhile, Kia galloped across the fresh grassy field and slowed down as she brought her self towards the winged horse, sniffing in the air, perhaps curious of what kind of strange creature this was. It looked well enough like her, and smelled somewhat like her as well, so she offered a neigh, maybe attempting to make friends as well, and not to mention lose the nervous canter.

Serena could not help but laugh as Ziren spoke, the sound was melodious and sweet. She smiled down at him, know sitting back slightly. She was relieved to see that he seemed alright, at least for the most part. If he was still able to laugh, then that was a good sign. When he paused to hear her name, she blushed slightly in embarrassment. "Oh, I'm so sorry, how rude of me. My name is Serena, and it is a pleasure to meet you. Though, " She looked back to the winged horse, then brought her gaze back to Ziren, smiling apologetically. "I wish it had been under better circumstance."

She did not move to stand, happy to rest her sore ankle a while. It didn't truly occur to her that poor Ziren could not move himself, she could be so ditzy sometimes. So she simply sat there, as oblivious as could be, looking about the forest. A thought occurred to her, and she looked down to Ziren. "You say you came to rescue me? From what, might I ask?" The curious look in her eyes made her seem younger than she was, and gave her a rather naive appearance. She may have been a star, ancient in comparison to a human life, but she was still so young in reality. There was much of the world that she had yet to understand, for one could not learn simply from observing, but had to live the experiences as well.

As she sat next to this man, she looked him over a little more, now closer up and more capable of noticing little details. It was in this intense observation that it donned on her that he might not be able to move without her help. She shifted her weight slightly, now sitting up a little more, and looked down at him in her sweet manner. "Can you move at all?" She figured it would be best to ask first, rather than to simply assume that he had lost all mobility. Perhaps he was simply comfortable lying there and saw no need to rise. It was a silly thought, but it could have been truth, for all she knew.

The Pegasus, stomped a foot threateningly at the approach of the other horse, but soon calmed itself. He still felt exhiliration and adrenaline from his run and charge, and thus was a little more hyper than was normal. He snorted once, then seemed to still into a calm manner. His dark eyes stared at the horse at it approached him, as if sizing it up. He let out a great neigh in reponse to the horse, seeming to feel the need to prove his superiority and power. He flexed his wings once then let them settle back against his body, making him appear almost fat as the white dove feather seemed to blend with his pure white coat.

Evion was the first to notice a young woman and a man walk on to the road from amidst the trees. She stopped and stared at them, curious as to who these people were. The woman looked familiar from somewhere, but the young heiress just could not place her face.

Lightly, she brushed Fox's arm, attempting to turn his attention to the two newcomers. "Does she seem familiar?" Ev asked of the young heir beside her. She did not wait for a reply before she approached the two. They did not have horses, so Evion did not feel as if she were in much danger, not realizing the man was a professional bounty hunter. "Hail, friends. What brings you out in these woods on to this road today?" she asked with a carefree smile.

Sir and his companions then noticed their charge approaching a young woman and man that had stepped from the trees on either side of the ribbon of dirt leading to their destination. Sir sighed, ordered his men to stay with Sire Angel, then cantered to the area where Fox, Evion, and the strangers now stood. The man dismounted, then stood behind the heiress, watching them.

"Hello, Sir," Evion said lightly. "We have some new friends it seems."

Everyone is a friend, Lady Evion... Sir thought warily with exasperation. But he just nodded all the same.

(I was waiting until either you or AtavisticDevilry responded since I needed to know that you acknowledged that we had entered.)

"Hello there." Majxn noted the kind tone the girl had taken with him, he was still wary, just not as much. "Yes, well, you see-" It was then that an armored cavalry unit came forth from slightly down the pass. Majxn jumped back and drew his sword, and flung Matari over his back, now he pointed at the new cavalry with his drawn weapon. "What have we here? Perhaps some enemies?" The sword gleamed in the light of the sun, seeming to hold the light within it. "Or perhaps allies in all that is taking place?" His stance was defensive, balancing between his left and right sides with his legs, and holding Matari's legs with his free hand, he was careful not to crush her hurt leg as he stood ready to defend the both of them.

((I too was waiting for AtvasticDevilry... hahaha. But it seemed he was not to post and I feared this thread to die... So I posted.))

Sir, too, had drawn his weapon as the other man had and had pushed Evion behind himself. But the heiress merely stepped in front of him, lowering his blade with her hand. "Be still, friend. I would like you to meet my friend and traveling companion Sir." The knight only offered a curt nod, still wary of the stranger.

"Well, now that that is settled. Shall we be more kindly to one another then? Such hostility is not welcome on this road." Her words were directed just as much to Sir as they were to the man with his sword drawn on the two of them. "And who is that lady you've just thrown over you shoulder, sire?" The other young woman seemed so familiar...

((I'm sorry guys... I know I've been kind of absent. College apps have been raping me in unpleasant ways ¬.¬ If you can't imagine yet, you'll find out soon enough))

Fox peered at the man in the distance. "No," he replied, but Ev had already walked on ahead. The heir rolled his eyes; he was starting to get the feeling that Ev was a little bit naive, for better or for worse. Fox walked up just slightly behind her, his free hand tensed and more than ready to go for his sword. You never knew who you'd meet on the road.

Backup in the form of Ev's armed escort and, for Fox, Angel arrived shortly, though, and Fox relaxed a little bit. "Is everyone a friend to you, Ev?" he asked with a smile. His tone wasn't accusatory or negative in the slightest - more pleasantly amused than anything else. Fox thought it was rather sweet that she could be so open to strangers. Angel and Sir, however, exchanged a look that said it all from a servants perspective.

Fox eyed the pair, both the man and the woman in his arms, then shrugged and offered a hand. There wasn't much the man could do without dropping his charge, it seemed, and that would give Fox plenty of time to react should things go downhill. "My name is Fox. Pleased to meet you sir...?" the heir said, careful not to give out his full name to this stranger. Angel gave a relieved sigh in the background. I love it when you're not an idiot, Fox, the redhead thought gratefully. He'd been worried his master would introduce himself as the heir.

To the lady, Fox bowed. "And I'm pleased to meet you as well, mada - Lady Matari?" he said, rising quickly from his bow when he recognised the Lucastan heir. Today had been full of chance encounters, but this seemed pushing the bounds of even fate. "Are you headed towards the meeting point as well?" Fox asked, still looking slightly surprised. How often did one run into an heir being carried bridal-style through the woods by a man with a weapon? It hardly seemed a likely scenario, but apparently it did happen.

Unless she's an impostor, Fox reminded himself, though he didn't let the idea show on his face. He would know if she weren't, probably. Fox had a very, very good memory for detail, and it was unlikely any impostor could master all of them.

((I know what you mean. Sorta... I'm a junior in high school right now... So I have an inkling of what's to come... haha. But I'm sorry you have to do them AD!))

Evion turned and gave Fox a slight smile. "Wanting to meet our new friends as well?" she asked with a teasingly sly smile. But she didn't say anything else, instead she turned to face the man and woman.

At Fox's question the heiress just replied, "Sir, it's hardly agreeable to go around with closed arms, isn't it?" She gave him the same smile from before. When Angel arrived beside them, Evion gave a slight bow, offering to him the smile Fox had twice now seen.

The girl was enjoying the exchange, but had to bite her tongue when Fox said even just his nickname. That might have been too much information, Fox... she warned silently. I've not even given my name and I'm the one who first approached them... These thoughts were not cocky. They were actually the diplomatic side of the young woman showing through, the side proving her worth as an heiress. The same thoughts few knew about.

"Ah! I knew I recognized her, Fox! Did I not ask that?" Unable to help herself, she grinned, happy to find the woman was a true friend. Well, ally. And that was if she wasn't one of the witches playing tricks. The man still had Evion wondering. "Hello, Lady Matari! Where are your horses? Did you forget them? Or is the man carrying you over his shoulder pretending to be one?" The tone of her inquiry was all light-hearted and playful, as she was prone to do in such situations.

"Tch." Majxn said as he put his sword away, and took Matari back to the "bridal" position. He was still wary of these folks as he set Matari to the ground, making sure he was near in case she needed anything. He changed his stance to better suit the needs of the girl.
His meandered through the crowd, looking at each and every weapon that was there. Hmph. Nothing I can't handle. His thoughts reflected the grin that came across his face. "Before the lady introduces herself, I will be introducing myself." He looked through the ranks, his eyes focusing in on Fox. "My name is Majxn Fashea, my profession is guardian, as well as killer."

Matari slowly extended her legs as she was set to the ground. She was a little wobbly, but thanks to Majxn she had no troubles standing up. She then took off the hood of the cloak to reveal her sapphire eyes. Her mouth opened ready to announce herself, as was par to the custom, when Majxn opened his big mouth. She rolled her eyes as Majxn introduced himself as a guardian and killer. Idiot. She thought, as he said the second profession.
"Now, then, I beileve it's my turn." She stood as upright as she could, trying to stand as proudly as possible. "Matari, daughter of King Lucasta, heiress to the throne." The arm with the gauntlet on it shook ever so slightly. She looked down at it for a moment, then tried to resume her posture. "Fox, and Evion, I am glad to see the both of you. You both know royal escorts can get so very over-protective when out adventuring, thusly I did not want them at my side. This man is more than a match for anything." She gave a smile at Majxn, but noticed that he hadn't been paying attention to anything she was saying, instead he seemed focused on someone in the crowd. Once more the gauntlet shook slightly, this time it seemed to be more like it was fastening itself to her arm, she paid no mind to it, and waited for the others to respond.

Evion gave a slight bow. "Good then. You recognize me." The heiress gave a grand smile, showing her glee. She couldn't help but watch the man intently though. His gaze seemed to survey Sir, Fox, and Angel, including the other two knights just now cantering up behind. (Thankfully, they had had the common sense to keep their weapons sheathed.) Thank goodness... Tension was just eased slightly...

She turned back to Matari. Ev had just noticed the other young woman's injury, Matari resting little weight on her one leg. "Seeing as you have no horse..." Here Evion dipped in respect to Majxn. "And seeing also, that you are hurt, please take Tanyon. At least until we reach Telford." Evion smiled turned into a small frown as she turned to Majxn. "Sir, I'm sorry that I don't have another horse for you... Had I known, I would have agreed to bring another horse for the luggage... Again, I'm sorry, Sire Majxn." She gave an apologetic bow this time.

Sir stood behind her, biting his tongue. Having to watch the girl constantly bow to a lower status. An assassin... The man eyed Majxn, observing every detail about the man, his posture, his clothing, his eyes' movement, his weapons. If this man tries anything, he will not live to see another day...

The carriage rolled to a stop and a wicked grin slid over Carmen's lips. They were here, on the edge of the forest where the star had fallen. She could almost taste the power, almost taste the eternal youth and beauty that she would hold. Oh how close her desire was to her. She didn't even wait for the young servant to open the door, no, she threw it open herself, nearly knocking the poor boy on his butt.

She quickly stepped down, her robes rustling behind her as she moved. They had taken a spare horse from the inn they had stayed at, a rather brilliant creature. It had a pure black coat and dark eyes that seemed almost as cruel as Carmen was. He had been rather testy on her approach, and this animal's spirit seemed to be so much like the woman that she had to have him. The inn keeper had not been all too upset at parting with the creature, for it was obvious the beast had caused him much trouble. However, they were two of a kind, Carmen and this horse, and so they seemed to get along just fine.

She threw the saddle on over his back, which took a little effort since he was so tall. She strapped all of the gear she would need onto the saddle, most of it held in saddle bags, and quickly mounted the great beast. He snorted and stomped a hoof, frightening the skittish servant, though the boy held his place by the woman's side regardless, knowing it was far more dangerous to disobey her.

She looked down at the boy for a moment, her eyes flashing with her disgust. She loathed such weak creatures, unable to stand tall and brave, even beside a horse. How pathetic. She would have to remember to wipe them out with her new found star power, when the time came. "Now, I want you to take the carriage on down the road, to the nearest inn, and wait for me there. Beware, for we are close to the borders of the other kingdoms. Convenient that this forest should lie in the middle of it all." The last part was more a comment to herself. The boy nodded and hurried off, obviously glad to be rid of their presence. She simply pulled on the reins and off they went, horse and witch, into this unknown forest.

Matari smiled weakly. "No, it's OK, I can walk." She said as she let go of Majxn. Her first step forward was with her good leg, but as her other foot came down, she wobbled. Her eyes twitched as she felt the pain. "Just fine." She said with an angry smile, her teeth clenched as she spoke. Another step forward, this time her leg couldn't take the pain, her knee buckled and Matari fell forward. "Well that didn't go as well as I had planned." She spoke through the dust that had come up from her fall. She rolled her body so that she was now facing the sky. She decided it would be better if she was carried, yet wouldn't let Evion be off her horse. "Majxn, I guess you're still going to carry me."

It was rare that Fox met anyone he took a real disliking to. But the man who introduced himself as a guard and a killer... No, Fox did not like him, nor the smile he gave them. You could have chosen better company, Lady Matari, the heir thought, though he just gave Majxn the same friendly smile he did all strangers. Any worthwhile thoughts were kept from his face.

Angel, if anything, was even warier of the man than his master was. His instincts told him to avoid this man as much as he could, and the redhead planned to do exactly as they suggested. If he could help it, he wouldn't even introduce himself! Luckily, the killer didn't seem as though he was interested in meeting servants - his eyes were locked on Fox. Angel liked that even less, but he kept his mouth shut.

"It's good to see you too, Lady Matari," Fox said with a bow. That she failed to use titles with them was so very Matari... The grey-haired heir had never gotten along with the Lucastan heir very well, but such was life. There was no need to be uncivil about it, either.

"Hmm..." Fox said, noting how unstable Matari seemed on her legs. He glanced back at Angel, the one look communicating everything it needed to. Angel dismounted smoothly, then took his horses reigns and approached Matari. "Don't be silly, Lady Marati," Fox said as Angel moved. "Please, make use of Angel's horse. He and I can easily ride together. And, if you don't want to leave Majxn on the ground, you two are welcome to share as well. Having him carry you, though, is ridiculous," the heir finished. He knew that Angel would have wholeheartedly agreed - they were both infected by chivalry - had he not been holding his tongue in front of these nobles. Fox hated how his friend had to do that.

"Please, m'Lady," Angel murmured, handing Matari the reigns with a small, final bow that didn't leave much room for argument. Another servant's trick, and a dead useful one when it came to Fox. That done, Angel made his way to Jupiter and Fox, where his master already had a helping hand extended. Angel took it, and Fox pulled him up in a well-practiced gesture. There was little doubt that they'd done this many times before.

As soon as Angel was settled behind Fox, he leaned forward to whisper in the heir's ear. "I don't like her guard," the servant said, keeping his face blank. Fox raised one shoulder blade slightly, then dropped it - their coded nod. Fox was glad Angel agreed. If anything, his friend had better intuition than he. "Shall we proceed?" Fox asked jovially, glancing around at everyone present. They had quite a traveling party now!

Excellent.Majxn said as soon as he noticed Angel whispering to Fox. It seems I've got the upper hand now. His grin grew across his lips. He was frightened when Matari had decided to let go of him. He knew she needed support, specifically his. He knew her the best, and was the most likely to take care of her without her to seem so demanding. Then she stepped forward, Majxn's eyes grew small with fright, he knew what she was doing. However his step came too late and she fell.
Then she asked him to carry her. His eyes went toward his chest in deep thought. "No, not this time." He looked down at her. "I will help you up, but you need to ride a horse, whether it be this Evion's-" He glanced over at her for a brief moment. "Or this Fox's." The same stare was put out toward Fox as he said the name. "I have no need for a horse, I can run just as fast as one, if not faster." His voice was boastful, but he wasn't exactly lying, just sort of.

Evion bit back a laugh at the man's pompous attitude. "No. Just ride a horse, please. I'll ride with Sir. You can ride Tanyon. If Lady Matari's riding, so are you, sire. All of us can make it to Telford faster that way. Please." The heiress looked at Matari, a face saying 'please' to her too. However fast Sire Majxn can run, he'll tire too quickly... Faster than if he was on a horse at least...

But Sir took his cue before Majxn could answer. The knight quickly mounted, then pulled Lady Evion on to the open saddle space behind him. The guard gave the man on the ground a curt nod, as Ev stated kindly, "Now, sire. Please. Do us the honor, sire." The teen gave an elegant bow (as best she could on the back of a horse, that is).
