Putting a decent pilot in the Methuss would be like putting a NASCAR driver in a Ford Pinto.

*Putters past in a maroon and silver copy of Gundam Providence* Can I keep it?
Anyways, I think we've defended Quatre sufficiently? Anyone else object to any characters? Unless we want to branch out past Gundam Wing, I can't think of any characters I really hate.

You're just afraid of Sally because she's a strong female force infringing on your masculine space. XP

Yeah, I know. Everyone has hear it before.. yet I'd also like to discuss my least favorite character- especially since no one so far was able to deny what I criticize about her. Maybe I just misunderstood her, but well.. It's Relena. It's always been her.
Okay, I am not usually someone who dislikes characters, In fact: I see the good in everyone who is hated by the fandom and bashed and whatnot. I just like everyone. However Relena left me so shocked and annoyed, I didn't even think that it was possible.
For one thing: It is usually said, that she is a kind and good person. But I disagree. The way she acts is just plain brattish, and it is very clear that she is incapable of seeing the opinions of others. She can only see herself, and how she was a sheltered child that had no worries in life, and judges others based on this. She is incapable of seeing, that there are people less fortunate than herself, who lived in bad circumstances, and that their actions come from this. The prime example is the way she treats her own brother. It's so... almost inhuman. First she is all "Kill Zechs, I dont want anyone disagreeing with me" (because that is why she wanted him killed, because she doesn't like people who don't think and act the way she wants them to. It sounds harsh, but this is sadly what she basically said.)- and as soon as Noin tells her, that he's her brother, her behaviour turns around, but even after that she's just not got a clue on how to treat a sibling. As a very smart friend of mine put it: She has no drop of sibling love in her. She's always judging him, criticizing him, but she's not even trying to see, that maybe he's doing it for her, and that she might be hurting him. For her, everyone is a sheltered person who had all the best. The sad thing is, that she doesn't have character development either. If we take Fllay Alster from GS: She starts off being misguided, but changes later on. This is amazing, and I would have liked Relena, if she had any of that. But she remains the same childish character and doesn't grow at all. She even judges the people who help her, fight for her and save her, but if it bothers her so much, why does she not do what would necessarily have happened to her, if it wasn't for them- die. If she goes on people the way she does, then why not be consequent? (I don't wish for Relena to die, even though I think it would have been a very interesting plot twist, I'm just saying ^^)
I don't care for the usual fangirl arguments against Relena (such as "Aw, pink cow!!" or "She's taking heero" yadayada), but only for the fact, that the way she acts is so against everything I believe- such as being kind to people and try to find a reason behind everyone's actions. Plus, she is the epitome of a puppet princess. Sadly, she is credited for being Queen, but all the time it was more the people behind her taking care of matters. All she does is pull dangerous stunts every now and then, which does not qualify her as a politician in my eyes. I believe it's quite a good thing that she's "only" Vice Foreign minister in the end, since.. well... I personally disagree with her being someone "good" or "skilled".
She had a lot of potential as a character, but the way she is portrayed is simply unrealistic and stupid. Lacus Clyne was portrayed much better in GS/D, and she is one of my favorite characters from there. I believe, even the producers said, that they didn't know how to make Relena a good character, since they had no clue about girls like her. They are to blame, and some fanfiction is good enough to rescue Relena, and make her a less screwed up character, but in the series, she was just... well, I forward her scenes by now v.v' They could have changed my opinion on her with one thing already: They should have portrayed her as the misguided teenager she is, with all the brattish tendencies, instead of trying to make her an "oh-so-good" and admirable character, like they did. It is, as if they want to force you, to think Relena knows the only right way of handling matters, but this was just so repulsive to me. I like characters who make mistakes, and where this is admitted. But Relenas flaws are always denied o_O

the only reason i don't hate her is because she is milliaro's sister. he is just so cool that jsut the fact that they are related is enough of a reason for her not to die. not to mention that if she did die i would hate to be the poor soul who killed her because they would have a pissed off heero(which is very scary eek ) and a very very pissed milliardo(even more scary burning_eyes ) after them.

Sure, but he never fought as hard against Sally. Well, maybe mentally, but she seemed to be a softer spot for him. The others he either really had to go the rounds with or never willingly submitted to their arguments/criticisms.
However, I better liked the spars between he and Noin... 3nodding

ChrisJS However, I better liked the spars between he and Noin... 3nodding Yeah, so did I <3 Was always fun to watch. But I still agree, Sally is awesome- even though she's criticized for being mary Sue-ish.. Quote: the only reason i don't hate her is because she is milliaro's sister. he is just so cool that jsut the fact that they are related is enough of a reason for her not to die. not to mention that if she did die i would hate to be the poor soul who killed her because they would have a pissed off heero(which is very scary icon_eek.gif ) and a very very pissed milliardo(even more scary burning_eyes.gif ) after them. Yeah, well put. Sometimes though, I can't believe they're related. They don't even look alike. Different eyes, different hair- and that's odd with platinum blonde and blue eyes, which is about as recessive a gene as you can get- usually it would totally be overruled if there were darker tones in the mix- but all the Peacecrafts seem to have it, save Relena, which is virtually unthinkable o_O. (I do higher level biology, so this has always stricken me as really, really odd) So if there were genes for Relenas appearance, then Milliardo should have it too, maybe from their mum, if all the Peacecrafts are blonde, but.. agh, it's just odd >3 I don't want her to die either- I just think- well, think of Code Geass: When Euphemia died it gave a very harsh and interesting plot- twist, and it worked for her character too. And I think that wouldn't have been too bad for Gundam either. If only to see the really, really pissed Milliardo, I don't think Heero would be half as emotional as him, honestly (especially since I don't believe in the whole HeeroxRelena- thing). But the reaction of the people who believed in her role and Milliardo would just be very interesting to watch. It's not even about her, but she would be the one where it would have an impact, so if someone should die, then her, definitely.

*faints with happiness at the concept of a truly pissed-off Milliardo...*
This is an interesting discussion; I've just spent several minutes reading through it. The discussion sort of points up for me why Gundam Wing is such a cool series: even the characters who seem largely one-dimensional are so well-defined that they inspire strong emotion of either sort. smile
And it's really nice to see people who are able to disagree without being mean to each other. smile I'm very glad to be here!
