Hey Meri, could you help me with some Japanese?
I wanna go to the Asian supermarket and buy sweet red bean syrup and paste for cooking with, but I cant read the labels. We don't want to look like otaku by asking the people who own it (we already get stares just by being in there), so could you show me the kanji for red bean syrup and red bean paste so I can write it down?
Any recipe suggestions for what we can make with the delicious stuff would be fine too...
There actually isn't any kanji for azuki. It's just written in the base alphabet of hiragana. I'm not certain what azuki syrup would be called since I've never heard of it. o_O But possibly azuki-shiru or azuki-jiru, again in hiragana.
The only ways I generally eat azuki is in manju, over shaved ice in the summer or as a hot, soupy base for mochi at New Year's.
