"I'll...call you later," Cody promised. He loved the alien! For goodness sake he'd planned on proposing where they'd first met. But then Dari had gone and-- "Wait," he said, and he stepped forward, taking Dari's hand. "How will I know you got home safely?"

Dari pulled his hand away and slipped on his ring.
"I always do." He offered a small, forced smile and started to back toward the door.

Cody struggled to keep his expression in check. "Right," he said. "See you later, then."

'See you later then.' This was how it ended? He offered a little wave, fished his keys out of his pocket, and left. His face was flat when he got into the car, and remained that way until he pulled into the driveway, at which point he put the car into park and burst out in tears.

Maia looked up when Dari pulled in. She'd been out watering the flowers (it was a miserably hot day, poor things!). She waited for him to get out of the car, but when he didn't she went around and climbed into the passenger seat. She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him.

At first Dari didn't react, but in a few moments he turned to Maia and wrapped his arms around her to cry into her shoulder. His face was red and soaked with tears and he clung to Maia like a lifeline. Was it all over?

Maia held Dari, swaying slightly and trying to comfort him. Whatever Cody had done, she'd make him pay for how he'd hurt Dari.

It was quite a while they were out there until Dari finally calmed and sank. He didn't look Maia in the eye before he got out of the car and wiped his face on his sleeve. s**t. s**t s**t s**t.
When he entered the house, Toby looked up.
"Hey, Dari! Where've yyyyyh..." Toby said, and stood from the couch. "Dari?"
Dari held up a hand and shook his head before starting up the stairs.

Maia looked to Toby and sighed. "Its Cody, I think." Her phone had three missed calls from the man. It started to buzz a fourth time and she pressed the decline button. "I think they broke up."

"I'll um..."Toby glanced toward the stairs, "I'll see if I can talk to him later. I'll let him have some time alone first." Right? Dari had never not gone to Toby immediately after pain. This was new.

"Alright," Maia agreed. "He probably needs it. He was crying..." She hugged Toby. "Cody's an idiot if he's who caused this." She pressed decline on her phone again.

Toby hugged her and kissed her head.
"I could see that," he said, and stared off toward the stairs again."I've never seen him like this. Not, uh... not in this form."
