"Hey, we're not going to steal it. We're going to borrow it, bring back our Chris, and then we'll put the mirror back before anyone notices it's gone."
Hartley exchanged glances over Chris's head with Evan.
"I'm sure Powell....our Chris Powell will be willing to help us bring it back after we help get him back home here."
Evan grinned.
"You want tae cross dimensions, ya need a mirror with a long, strong history or ya risk miscalculatin'. Ya wouldn't want tae wind up in the dimension of th' apes."

I'll help you break in but we do it IN the museum. You hurt no one, you take nothing. I'll deal with any guards and the security system. Take it or leave it.

Evan shot his hand out to shake with Chris. Hartley couldn't believe this guy. Obviously, he was desperate to get home, or he would have thought out what he was agreeing to a little more...
Oh well. Not Hartley's problem. The trick now was just keeping this Chris Powell incognito until tonight.
"I'll be by at ten-after-eleven. Be ready tae go."
Evan gave the two of them a wink and strolled off. Hartley turned to Chris.
"We should find somewhere to stash you before anymore of the stupid teen drama of this school tracks you down."

Huh. Didn't know Powell could do that. Hartley filed that bit of information away for the future. Assuming he'd been abandoned, Hartley went back to his room.
Shame, he'd wanted to ask a little bit about that other dimension. It was piquing his curiousity. Same people, different lives...he wondered if Nexus Hartley's parents were such jerks, too.
Back in his own room, Hartley started his own preparations for tonight. With Powell so kindly offering to take care of the guards and security system, that freed Hartley up to think about what ELSE he'd like to do in an unguarded, empty museum...

Cassie walked out of the cafeteria.. she bought a pint of triple chocolate ice cream and walked to her room... she really needed to watch some 'men are all jerks' programming. So when Cassie got to her room she dug into her ice cream turned on the TV to Lifetime network.

That night, Evan, Hartley and Chris stood on a rooftop adjacent to the Museum. Evan was wearing a suit geared up with his many mirrored gadgets. Hartley was wearing the green cloak with hood that had become his outfit for 'going on the town.' In the pockets of his cloak were his most trusted instruments.
Evan looked at Chris.
"Well, it's on you nae, guards and security systems like ye promised."

Evan grinned as the two made their way down and inside of the museum.

Oh, being identified won't matter boys. They think you're special guests of the Director. I wouldn't steal anything if I were you though.

It took Hartley a little time to catch up to what Chris was saying. He trailed behind Evan and Chris as they made their way to the Elizabethen gallery. Evan looked less than happy at the idea of 'being searched on the way out.'
Hartley sped up and accosted Chris from the side.
"What do you mean, 'when I was younger?' Do you know what my future's going to be like?"
He'd never really thought about the future...at least not more than a few weeks in advance. Plans on what would be the most satisfying in the short run or tick his dad off the most in the near future.
"How do I end up?"
