Cody went red and sighed into his hand. "I look ridiculous!" he groaned. He was in costume for a play; probably something by Shakespeare judging by the outfit.

Dari laughed, not at the photo but at Cody's reaction.
"You're in costume! Everyone looks ridiculous in costume. Who did you play?"

"Some guy who dies in Hamlet," Cody grinned. "Horacio? I don't know. It was god awful." He turned the page, then another. He paused, wrinkling his nose and turning the page quickly. "If you can keep secrets, I can skip this picture."

"So pretty much anyone?" Dari asked with a laugh, "Ahh. I'm sure it was. High school? Hey hey hey. No. My secrets are a matter of national security. Yours are a matter of fickle pride. This was your idea."
He turned back a page yet again.

Cody tensed and shot Dari a glare, crossing his arms. Prom photos were laid out on this page. Cody had been alone in most of the pictures, but twice a girl--the same girl--showed up in different dresses. "I wouldn't have gone at all, but mom..." He shook his head.

Instead of laughing, Dari smiled broadly. His eyes lit up. Prom. It was such a big deal for teenagers, but he wasn't surprised that Cody hadn't been particularly interested.
"You looked very handsome," Dari said, turning to smile at Cody directly, and then turning back toward the page. "Who's she?" He pointed to the girl.

"The girl I told you about. Mom hooked me up with her and she wouldn't leave me alone." He rolled his eyes and added, "I had to explain I wanted to finish college before dating for her to stop."
He kissed Dari's cheek. "I love you."

"Ooh. I'm sorry," Dari said, brows furrowing. Stalker chicks. Scary.
He hadn't been expecting the cheek-kiss and so, when it came, his smile broadened. He turned and caught Cody's lips before they retreated entirely.
"I love you too."

"Mhmmm, I wasn't ready to admit to myself I was gay back then," he said, lowering his voice. "I thought I just wasn't interested." He shrugged. "But now I know I just hadn't found the right guy," he smiled at Dari and flipped the page.

"You're just preaching to the choir,"Dari said with a little laugh and kissed Cody's cheek while he turned the page. "All it takes is a little good luck." And maybe a bit of aventurine?

"I love you," Cody said, smiling. "I think mom would approve if I married you now. That's all I really wanted today. She went above and beyond."

Oh goodness. There it was again. Marriage. This time Cody wasn't even drugged! He managed to smile, though, and fought back the urge to swallow.
"I'm glad," he said, "I couldn't have dreamed of this change."

"Me either," Cody agreed softly. He smiled happily. "I'm so glad. I wanted them to see how special you are." He took Dari's hand and squeezed it. "I'm saving up so I can ask you properly someday," he said.

Toby should have known it would happen. Kevin had grown increasingly fond of him over time, and the poor kid spent so much of his time in a boring office building with amenities meant for adults. Were he not Unseelie, they probably would have placed him in a home, but he'd never have agreed to that. Now he felt it was sort of his duty to let the kid out sometimes to see the world he'd be joining when he got older.
He approached Kevin's door and knocked. They had made plans earlier in the day, and Toby was getting off a bit early.
