[ Matthew ; John : Louis' Heart : Nightmare's Nightmare? ]

Matthew held his eyes closed as the world around him grew awash with brilliant white, and slowly opened them to see... a plain cobblestone room. The actual room of the tower?

"Oh thank God," he said, perhaps louder than intended as his shoulders quickly sagged from the released tension. He heard Joe start to walk toward the exit, and Amy start to follow, but his eyes caught sight of someone else huddled on the floor--Louis. Or, well, Nightmare. Was it still Nightmare?

"Hey there," he said, walking up slowly but not coming quite so close as to be within melee range. He ran a Scan on the young man to be sure. "You okay?"

[ Kyle ; Jenny : Louis' Heart : Victim's Vault ]

It's too soft to cause pain.

For now. But there may always be grief...

Kyle held the thoughts to himself as the world erased around him, though his eyes remained opened throughout, seemingly unaffected. Perhaps he was jaded, or perhaps he was just realistic. Which was oddly conflicting with his optimism, as always. Probably what caused him so much anxiety half the time.

But if you breathe, and seek it out... it's always there.

The world returned, and Kyle breathed a sigh of relief at the normality of the stone tower. However, before he could inhale the lost air, Yuffie was tackling him, causing him to quickly grunt in surprise, eyes wide as he toppled over.

"I have an unfair advantage, really," he said after catching his breath and patting her on the shoulder, trying to get back up to his sitting position and trying not to think about said advantage. There beside him was Victim, if that's even who or what he was anymore. It was Jenny that responded first, coming up to the group on the ground and kneeling with a small smile. Kyle knew things were okay then: if Jenny was comfortable, it was because the shard's heartsong was acceptable.

"Feeling any better?" she asked, flute in hand but by no means defensive or hostile; she offered her other hand to help him stand, if necessary.

[ Riku : Louis' Heart : Traitor's Test ]

Riku sighed contently, his eyes closed softly as the light enveloped the reality they had been enveloped within, passing over him. They had done it; they'd managed to actually break through. Still... the words lingered. They tugged at the darker corners of his heart, and he worried.

Doing what was "right"...

You have to take care not to be blinded by what you think is right and what actually is right...

... could be so dependent on perspective. And it was easy to think your own perspective is all that mattered, to think surely yours was the smarter, truer way.

Riku nodded with a brief smile to Bobbi as she sent her message, pleased to see her reunited with Innocence. Then he turned to Traitor, or whatever he was now, and dismissed his Keyblade. He chewed on his words while Dawn helped him up.

"I hope you're doing well, but you wouldn't happen to know what we should be trying now, would you?" he asked, deciding it best to focus on what could be done, rather than what was. "I have a feeling there's still more we need to accomplish."

[ Sayrike ; Sora : Louis' Heart : Prisoner's Purgatory ]

"Yes, that's it! It's working!" Sayrike found herself saying, pleased despite herself, as the world around them seemed to blow apart with the figurative and literal opening of Prisoner's eyes. The world shifted, exploding around them, and they found themselves on the station, that which represented exactly what she'd expected.

Sora stood ready, his blade held with both hands in front of him; he felt it in his fingers just as he felt it within his chest, the building sensation, the key's response to a tainted lock, the light's response to a dark binding. The stream burst forth, a heavy click resounded around them and through the station itself, and everything washed away...

When they found themselves able to see again, both the blue mage and keyblader were relieved to find only a basic cobblestone circular room, the door behind them waiting to be left behind.

But first, there in front of them, low to the ground and upright as he steadied himself, was Prisoner--if that was even what he was now.

"Is that it, then?" Sayrike asked, her mirrors fading away though a Scan ran through her mask all the same--just in case. "Are you... better? What is even the right thing to say there?"

"I'm not the eloquent one, don't ask me."

[[Innocence, ??? : Traitor's Tower]]

The man lifted his eyes to meet Dawn's gaze and with a sheepish nod he accepted her kindness with a subtle and quiet apology, taking her hand and standing next to her. His hand on hers felt like a blaze licking the skin, that dangerous yet comforting warmth found only hovering inches from a bonfire.

At last he turned to Riku, frowning lightly, "I thought you knew. Why else would you be here? If now is your first stop, there are 3 others who act as the key's to Louis' core, we call it the box."

The boy looked to the door and the space outside where the adjacent tower was plainly visible, "It looks like I'm not the only one you've rescued. Let's head back, I'm sure with more of us present we can provide a better answer."

Lastly, before he moved for the door, he looked at Bobbi hugging Innocence tightly, the two made eye contact for a moment then the man known as Traitor nodded sadly making for the door immediately after.

Innocence gave Bobbi one final and tight hug before separating their embrace, "That one... he was the one who killed me before... before I became that thing. I was deemed unnecessary. A hindrance. His last words to me were, 'I can't save others and hold on to you at the same time.' He just wanted to protect people, so I forgive him... please don't hold it against him Bobbi-nee."

-------------------------

[[Esteem, ??? : Nightmare's Tower]]

Matthew's scan returned with clearly conclusive results; no taint of darkness could be sensed anywhere in the shard. The shard known as Nightmare sat up, rubbing his eyes and answered slowly, "Yeah... just had a really bad dream there. You-"

The shard stopped, looking as the others already quickly evacuated the tower, "-should probably keep up with them," the young man laughed lightly, trying to get up but stumbling a bit as he did so, clearly not stable but conscious at the very least, "I'd ask for another 5 minutes but I get the feeling I don't have that long to-" the boy yawned involuntarily, "snooze."

Esteem, who still stood nearby with Kyla looked between the girl and the shard they'd saved with a content smile, "You did good," his voice reaching only his host.

-------------------------

[[Justice, ??? : Victim's Tower]]

The young Louis looked around, first at Kyle and Yuffie, looking bewildered as the girl had gone blurring past his vision taking the dragoon with her, then at Jenny, who kindly offered him assistance. He smiled wholeheartedly, eyes turning to squints as he took her hand, "Thank you."

As he stood, that thank you extended to all of them as he repeated himself, "I never would have expected kindness like this. From you or... anyone really. I promise I'll do whatever I can to pay you back."

He looked over to the door, "Let's get out of here."

Kyle's shard, who'd be otherwise completely silent through the entire trial, spoke specifically to his host, "I would have killed him. After everything Louis has done, our whole self or not, he doesn't deserve your kindness or pity."

-------------------------

[[??? : Prisoner's Tower]]

The young man tentatively placed his fingers around his own neck. His fingertips ran over raw skin still red and frayed, but healing. He laughed once looking up at Sayrike who's scan returned void of darkness, "I... I'm free. You did it! How did you do that? Can I do that? Can you do that for the others? Do you even know about the others? Am I the first one you've helped? Is that the door out? Am I allowed to go out there?"

The questions continued to pour out in a heavy stream before he caught himself, biting his lip nervously, "Sorry, uh, thanks. I'm great, are you okay? It didn't touch you, did it?"

[Dani :~: Louis’ Heart:~: Tower of Traitor]

After Traitor was hit with the beam of light, Dani left her imaginative space and quietly looked over at the group she was with along with the shard. ‘Well… I guess this is done,’ Dani thought as she quietly dusted herself off. While she understood what Traitor had mentioned, this was not the time for her to think about it now. She would save that for a later time.

Without looking back at the group, she quietly went to the door that was open and walked through it to wait for the others to hopefully return from their towers. She honestly just wanted out of the tower and just out of here in general.

[Dawn : Louis' Heart : Tower of Traitor]

Dawn stared at Traitor as he got up with her extended hand. She looked at him blankly as she rubbed her hand which was now hot from the shards hand. The dancer remained silent as he answered Riku then left.

"You're sorry?" she thought in a rough voice trying to wrap her head around his silent apology to her. What was he saying sorry to her for? For using her to get up or for what Liar confessed to her before? What was he thinking of when he spoke to her?

Dawn suddenly let out a loud sigh as a way to clear her head and looked over at Riku, '"I guess we might as well go after him, huh? I hope the others are okay."

[ Amy : Narnia / Louis's Heart : Tower of Nightmare ]

Amy left the tower, passing Joe if he hadn't already made the exit. She stood still long enough to observe some of the others as they also made their way out, long enough to understand that their trials must have also been successful.

She began charging her magic. This hadn't been over enough times for her to figure it wasn't over now. Especially considering a shard named Nemesis was still standing. Maybe they'd purify him, too. Or maybe they'd have to fight him first.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 11, 2016 8:33 pm

[ Matthew ; John : Louis' Heart : Nightmare's Nightmare? ]

Matthew shrugged. "Nothing out there but a dead end to check on the others. I'll catch up."

Seeing that the young man was able to stabilize himself, the blue mage nodded toward him. It was comforting to know that the Scan came back clean, though really, how dependable was an ordinary Scan on heart magic mumbo jumbo voodoo-you-do?

With a thumbs up, he turned and began walking toward the door. "Hope the others did okay. And that Kyle's not a ghost now. Can't leave him alone for five minutes without unleashing a comedy of errors."

Matthew then exited the tower.

John lingered at the doorway, turning to make sure Kyla and Esteem were making their way forward.

[ Kyle ; Jenny : Louis' Heart : Victim's Vault ]

"Just try to take care of yourself so you don't fall into the same darkness," Jenny responded with a reassuring smile. "We'll all work together to get this done. Seems to be working that way, at least."

Walking alongside the shard, Jenny exited the tower.

Kyle watched as the shard and Jenny began walking out, and stood up as well, helping Yuffie to her feet if necessary. At Justice's remark, however, he physically shrugged.

'People deserving anything is an abstract concept constructed by humanity to apply some level of fairness to an unfair world,' he mentally responded, his mind's voice a bit more solemn than he intended. 'We cling to it in order to appease our sense of unease at tough decisions. Still, being a construct means we get to decide what the terms of deserving are--which is why there can be so many problems with it.'

'Still, Justice, step back and look at the picture from a different point of view,' he said, and he coyly smiled as he watched the revitalized shard walk away. 'Specifically, look at him. Then tell me: is that Victim? Is that the tainted shard consumed by self-loathing and supposed worthlessness enhanced by corrupting forces?'

He chuckled. 'I'm pretty sure we did kill him. That black entity known as Victim was burned away in an all-consuming light, entirely overpowered by the strength of whatever sparks drive us. Whoever that shard is isn't Victim now in the same sense that Riku isn't Xehanort anymore. Victim didn't deserve to live, so Victim no longer does. What stands in his place is probably something healthier, like Compassion or Aid or Protectiveness. Identities in this universe are so pesky and full of loopholes, aren't they?'

Walking over and patting Justice on the shoulder, he guided the two of them toward the door as if walking in a friendly embrace.

'Louis as this world knows him doesn't have much longer, bud. We'll get it done.'

Kyle exited the tower, making note of all the others slowly streaming out of their own.

[ Riku : Louis' Heart : Traitor's Test ]

Riku took the response in stride, gaze lowering to the cobblestone somewhat. Keys to the box, the core, where Mateus kept the spell in place. Assuming they had the keys, they were at the doorstep now--they'd finally be at the root of the spell.

But there was always more. To begin with, "doorsteps" were always safeguarded. The last time they were "at the doorstep", they were attacked by giant demon-dragon. Before that, Ajora's allies in Atlantis. And even just speaking of Louis, he was the guard at the doorstep for the Replicas' creation. Riku had no doubt that there would be yet another guard dog... especially if his hunch was correct. Namely: Mateus was the least of their concerns.

The Heartless had been storming in. That part was not illusion. They festered beneath the surface level, staring at them from the abyss. Heartless of that number might simply congregate because of the power of a heart, but he didn't believe that was the case anymore. Years ago--heck, even days ago--he would have just wrote them off as creatures of instinct. This morning changed everything. If that force really was anywhere near half as potent as it seemed...

Riku could hardly believe that he was believing it, to be honest, but it was hard not to consider the ramifications, especially if the Heart of Atlantis spoke so clearly with it, had so much history with it. Was it here? Was it behind Mateus? Ultima had shown clear allegiance to it. Nicholas and Alice had been with them, Louis had been allied with them...

Once again, I hope I'm just being paranoid.

Briefly, Riku allowed himself to remember how it looked in that seemingly infinite abyss. He steeled himself, going over every detail, remembering its words and actions even before, as it had possessed Ajora. And then, exhaling the tension out of his body, he turned and exited the tower.

[ Sayrike ; Sora : Louis' Heart : Prisoner's Purgatory ]

Sayrike couldn't help herself--she laughed. Almost entirely due to the now-unnecessary tension needing an outlet, but also because his questions reminded her a bit too much of herself with Louis and the others on her joining just yesterday.

"Five munny this one's supposed to represent a person's natural curiosity."

Sora smiled, both at the shard and Sayrike's mental message to the group. He looked around for confirmation, but was right as he'd guessed. Joe looked a little more tense than usual, though. "We're fine, nothing hurt us. You're the first we've helped, but we had others get the other 3 towers at the same time, so hopefully they're finishing up soon and then we can get to the heart of the matter."

"Little late for that," Sayrike pointed out.

Sora looked confused for a second, looking at the blue mage, who only raised a brow above her mask. Aaaaand... then it clicked. "Oh! Right, we're in the heart already. Jokes."

"Anyway, yeah, that's the door out. I don't know if you're allowed to go out there," she said, and after a second, a knowing smile crept onto her lips.

She offered her hand.

"Wanna find out?"

Sora grinned before running to the door and looking out--where he saw everyone else making their way back to the central platform, bit by bit. "Looks like they were all successful!" he called back to the others before laughing and exiting the tower, making his way to meet the others.

[ Melisandre : Louis' Heart : Core of the Cornerstones ]

The sorceress seemed only to gaze downward in contemplation at the responses she received, both from the allies and from the shard. This was certainly an intriguing revelation; who could help but wonder what chaos they'd stumbled into?

When the light show occurred, and Nemesis revealed everyone had seemed to have succeeded, she barely showed any signs of acknowledgment--still trapped in her own thought. Very briefly, though, one of the three men near her might heard the faintest of grunts, and if they were staring up at her face, might have noticed a tension in her eyelids, as if they were trying to force themselves shut and she was willing them open. It lasted for hardly a second, so by the time Sora came bounding onto the platform with laughter, it had passed.

[Axel: Louis’s Heart: Prisoners Tower]

“Yah go team- I’ll just hang back here- let you guys with the proper equipment handle this…”
He said with the fake chipper tone, leaning against a stack of books as the earthlings set to work setting this distraught and clearly- mentally unstable shard into a better state of being.

BOY- what a Light show!
They certainly knew how to wield it when push came to shove- so it seemed.
When it was over Axel walked over observing their handiwork-“ wow… what do yah know? Good job team- woooooo~” he remarked making a little faint cheering noise as they eventually headed back outside.
“So- this mean we’re almost through this? I don’t think any of you could handle more surprises.”

[Kyla: Louis’s Heart : Nightmare Tower ]

The Other Promise

Kyla lingered- she always did, habit, or self-conscious. When the light faded, after her spell- their- spell unleashed and bathed the space in light, this strange power they all shared- Kyla stood there numb. Even when her eyes settled on the purified shard, the completed cobbles tone room around them-the artist was still waiting for the dream to settle around her.

"You know, the future is always an unknown and the unknown is terrifying. Yesterday was horrible, today was worse, tomorrow might be just as bad, but who's to say I can't have hope and dream that things will get better another day."

Her eyes stung, and a bead of sweat slipped down her neck- How the world felt hazy now.
“…someday, it will be better…”

Sounded familiar. Very familiar. It was a lie, a hope, a wish she told herself- over and over as many times as she could till it stuck. Till she started to believe it-
till she wanted to make it happen.

Till she started fighting to make it happen-......... when did that happen?

When did the dream start to feel so close like this?

“-you did Good.” Esteem was back- and the artist couldn’t stop her cheeks from turning red, eyed misting over and tears falling from her face.

She took a second or two more and let it go just a little bit. To accept the praise, and allow herself that small token. Giving her spirit a moment to exhale. She could do this.
Still, Kyla was glad the others were already walking out, the artist didn’t want them seeing her face getting all messy- yet again. She needed to collect herself and press on- this was far form over. Considering everything she remembered this couldn’t be the end of it. It didn’t feel like it was and so the mage couldn’t allow her fatigue to rear up yet.

“..thank you…” Kyla finally managed to say, wiping her eyes. Feeling once again utterly embarrassed- how much was she going to cry?! How many times? Cry baby. Tugged from one emotional extreme to the next- pretty soon she was going to cave into herself, but as long as she held onto this-…
Her hand clasped the lingering sensation of the warmth she felt passing through the pages of her book- the power that saturated and permeated their little space in this nightmare- As long as she held onto it- surely it would carry her through to the end. It would get better.

Alright-! Back to the matter at hand- what could be next?

Kyla took stock of it in her memory- Ava Mat- Mateus, they still had to deal with that. The towers in their very nature of description represented only the beginning- but they were closer. Kyla would turn and nods to John who awaited her- and as they left Kyla touched Esteems arm gently- as if checking to make sure he was there. She felt him, heard him- her friend. One facet of a whole she hoped would share the same loyalty in the end.

“…next-“ she mumbled following along behind their group out of the tower.

{Red XIII, Yuffie .:. Louis's Heart .:. Tower of Victim}

Yuffie accepted Kyle’s hand up, and skipped out of the tower after Jenny and Victim, followed closely by Nanaki.

{Bobbi .:. Louis's Heart .:. Tower of Traitor}

Bobbi gave Innocence one last squeeze before letting him go, and sighed.

"If he wanted to protect people, he’s going about it in the dumbest way I’ve ever heard of," Bobbi retorted, a little more sharply than she intended. "And I’ve seen some dumb things in my life. I don’t fault him for his intentions, but I do fault him for the poor decisions he made. Hopefully he learned."

And I hope I did, too, she thought, biting her lip, eyes downcast. After a moment to collect her thoughts and compose herself, she started heading towards the tower door, snagging Dawn and Kuro by the hand as she passed by and dragging them along with her whether they liked it or not. She’d have grabbed Dani, too, but she ran out of hands.

{Demyx, Zell .:. Louis's Heart .:. Cornerstone of Death}

Zell was practically beside himself, he was so glad to see everyone coming out of the towers safe and sound.

"Yeah, you did it! Go team!"

Joe : Louis' Heart : Prisoner's Tower

As the cacophony around them faded, Joe was pleasantly surprised that it'd worked. He had honestly expected this to be much harder.

Hell, Sora even managed to get 'Prisoner' out of his locks with no fuss. Now it looked like they were one step closer to ending this.

"I think it's done. Whatever test or puzzle this tower had for us is over now. Let's help our new friend up and get out of here. Hopefully the others have managed..."

Joe stopped, his eyes locking onto the new figure nearby.

'No.'

It was another shard, that was obvious enough. Looked like Louis, talked like Louis, but wasn't quite Louis.

'No'

He had a book and a pen and called himself Creativity, the purified form of Liar.

'NO!'

And he was inside Joe's mind.

"Oh you have got to be ******** kidding me!"
Joe yelled out, going from relatively calm to at wits end in a matter of a few seconds.

Before he could continue the tirade, his other mental roommate chimed in.

“WHAT SORCERY IS THIS!? WHO ARE YOU TO INTRUDE UPON THIS SPACE, HALF-FORMED INGRATE? Atomos does not share with those he does not respect, and what have you done to earn respect? NOTHING! WRITHE BEFORE ME, petty mortal, and I may spare you the full extents of my wrath!”

Joe was so angry, he wasn’t even in the mood to reign in Atomos ‘Why me? Why?’ he thought ‘I’ve never even met with Louis, why would a shard bond with me?’

{James : Louis’ Heart : Traitor’s Trial}

James thought for as long as he could regarding what Riku had said and in the end decided it wasn’t worth the risk. As the others channeled their light to the two of them James focused on his own, a song from his choir days that was composed by none other than their conductor resonated through his memory and filled his heart with exactly what he needed to feel at that moment, hope. Hope for a brighter tomorrow, for the best outcome to their trial. it had been a long time since he had thought about the song, and the wonderful message that it had. It felt good to remember and he could feel it softening his heart. It allowed him to feel compassion and mercy towards someone who had felt was beyond redemption. He felt his friend’s light as they passed it along and felt his own building along with it before sending it through the charms and to Riku.

He held his hand to his heart as he watched and waited to see what would happen, hoping, pleading that they would succeed. He watched in silence, mouthing a silent prayer to his Heavenly Father, whether he was there or not as the beam of light shot out at Traitor’s chest. As the light erupted out of the back of the shard as he fell to his knees before it passed and he looked at them and smiled as he spoke. The corsair watched in silence as Innocence was reunited with Mizu.

’I believe through any trial~ There is always a way~’ The corsair thought to himself, the song playing in his head as he looked at his companions as they prepared to leave. This was one of the rare times where truly everybody lived, and he was filled with hope that the same would be true for the final outcome of the mission.

”Guess then we need to leave and see-! Oy~!… Hey! Mizu! Let go!” James called out mid-sentence as his friend snagged his hand and began dragging him along with her towards the exit. With a resigned sigh he picked up his pace so his arm wasn’t being pulled taught by his short friend.

((Auron and Leon posts to come shortly, I've been sitting on this too long and just needed to get it up.))

[[Creativity : Inside Joe's Mind]]

"'Ruuuude,' the shard said, with a small laugh, 'Hah,' the bellowing voice of Atomos still echoing off... seemingly nothing since more or less the conversation was taking place mentally rather than physically both between the two residents of the earthling's heart as well as the host himself.

The revitalized shard continued to write as he spoke, narrating the interaction, as well as his own actions, verbally, 'If you honestly want to know why I ended up inside YOUR heart, frankly, not entirely sure. For one reason or another, when I was purified, and drifting in a seemingly endless expanse of nothing, I was drawn and woken to this place, the station of your heart that is. I imagine, in some way, shape or form the others ended up much the same. Is it random chance or the deeming of a divine intervention, not really clear on that. While I'm all for taking a moment to muse over the possibilities and come up with an endless supply of potential scenarios or sinister plots, I believe we're short on time and the others are already taking their leave of the tower. We should keep up.'"

[ Sayrike ; Sora : Louis' Heart : Prisoner's Purgatory ]

Before the shard could react to Sayrike's offer, Joe suddenly shouted, his upset as blatant as the echoes now bounding around them. Instinctively, the mage pulled her arms back toward herself, the mirrors appearing to create a wall around her once again as she looked around in a panic...

... only to see nothing in particular out of place. And Sora was already well outside...

"Joe?" she asked, the mirrors spreading out enough for her to be clearly seen. "What's going on?"

Joe : Louis' Heart : Prisoner's Tower

'Your not sure? Well, excuse me if I remain somewhat of a skeptic about that. Your unpurified form is easily the worst version of you I've met tonight, so I think I'm entitled to keep you at arms length.'

"You're just going to let him take up residence in here? This is OUR space Meatbag, not his!"

'Look, I don't like this anymore then you do, but the only three people I know of with experience in this area are not inside this tower. Much as I hate to admit it, the shard is right. We're wasting time standing around here.'

Turning to Sayrike, Joe let out a deep sigh before answering "We've got another 'purified shard' to deal with and I've got a new roommate. Let's grab Prisoner and go, I need to speak with Kyle and Bobbi as soon as possible."

[[???, Creativity : Prisoner's Tower]]

The shard after a moment of being a tad shocked by Joe's outburst, he was instead overwhelmed with a desire to find out more. He got up and made his way over to Joe's side, "Wait, wait, wait, what do you mean another purified shard? Who is he? What's he like? Where did he come from? Is he friendly? Why can't we see him? Is he shy?"

As the other shard continued to ask questions, staring into Joe's eyes with his own dark-hazel ones wide with wonder, Creativity was oddly silent. He continued to write, but wrote in silence glancing up from his book every so often as though to think while he stared at the scene.
