"True." Melanie shrugged, then let her hand sit on the hilt of her sword. "But why not just take the women and kids on board? You could use a few cabin boys; plus the women could mend the sails."

"We have more then enough cabin boys. The only reason the women and children would be on board would be for play things. It gets lonely, out here in the Big Blue. Most would prefer death; I'm in a charitable mood and inclined to give it to them. Unless you'd rather I not?..."
Storm raised her eyebrows at Melanie in an obvious question.

Melanie's eyes grew wide with realization at what Storm thought she meant. "No,no,no,no,no! That was not at all what I was thinking!" Melanie shivered then nodded her head. "Fine. Death is fine."

Storm grinned widely at Melanie.
"But now that you say something, I guess we'd be best to get at least some, to keep our boys happy. What do you say, Stil?"
"A few would be nice. You're only so much fun."
Storm laughed.

Melanie curled her hands into fists, wanting so bad to punch Storm in the jaw. "If your boys just want 'fun, why not let them make a permenant residence at the brothel?" She crossed her arms. "They'd be of better use there than here." Melanie muttered.

"Half the fun is taking what isn't yours to take. I thought you were a pirate before?"
Storm frowned; she didn't like her crew to have morals. It made for bad business.

"I am a pirate!" Melanie said defensively, "I've just-If you were more sensible!-I couldn't...."Melanie had begun to trip over her words, when finally she couldn't make any other excuse. "Ok-"She sighed, debating with herself if telling them was even neccessary."I'm technically not a pirate. I mean, I've been taught by both parents about ships and weapons but I've never actually been part of a crew." Unable to look Storm in the eyes, Melanie stared at the floorboards, ashamed at the fact.

"You...what?"
Storm's voice dropped to a dangerous murmur.
"So you lied to me?"
Without hesitation, without looking away, she spoke to Stil.
"Only one place for liars among my crews. Give her to the vampers. At least her worthless corpse might mean something then."
Stilgar's hand dropped to his wicked looking knife's hilt on his belt and advanced slowly.

Melanie raised her arms, palms facing Storm as she watched Stil slowely make his way towards her. "I wasn't lying too you....I just didn't want you too be dissapointed in me." When she saw that Storm said nothing, Melanie took a tenative step back, her eyes dancing between Stil and Storm. "Technically I am a pirate, but not necessarily in practice.....if you could re-teach me, I would prove a good pirate-I'm a quick learner."

"You mince your words. Say what you mean and be done with it. Were you a pirate, or were you not?"
Storm glanced at Stilgar, now more then half way to Melanie, despite her attempting to retreat.
"Do not tarry; Stil is quick with his knife, swift a true his strikes."

Melanie swallowed, she couldn't believe what she'd just said. Of course she was a pirate, it'd been a long time since actually pirating, but yes she was.....sort of. "Yes, I was a pirate."

Stilgar halted on a murmured word from Storm. He shot a questioning look back over his shoulder to his captain, but aqueoused all the same.
"If you're a pirate, then why did you say you weren't? Who was your captain? With whom did you serve?"

Melanie sighed with relief, but her eyes still shot between Stil and Storm. "Because I haven't pirated in awhile;I've lost my knack so to say." I crossed my arms. "Captian Adrian Burb."

"Of the Juliette, or the North Wind?"

"The Juliette....did you know the Captain?" Melanie began to smile at the interest she saw in Storm's eyes.
