Serenity nodded slowly, and smiled faintly. "And I thank you for giving me something new to learn," she said honestly, glancing down at her petite comanion. "After two decades of wandering the land, it becomes more and more difficult to find something new, that I haven't seen before. And here, you've introduced me to an entire world of newness."

Her smile grew broader. "So again, I thank you."

Kara giggled happily, "Well I should be thanking you too.... I get to be myself again," and she blushed.

Kara would have been playing with her fingers had she not been holding the plant.

"And I get to be with Donovan."

Serenity smiled. "Well, I'm sure you would have fledged again even if I hadn't been asking so many questions ... but I'm glad to have sped up the process."

She looked up at the sky self-consciously, though her smile never wavered. "And yes ... being with the one you love is always an amazing thing, something to be treasured ..."

And then she looked down at Kara once again, and her gaze was intense. "Don't waste a moment with him," she advised seriously. "You never know what life may throw at you, and if - Valar forbid - something should happen ... it's not worth the regret of leaving things unsaid, things undone."

At that, she grew quiet and pensive.

"You miss him?" Kara asked not missing the feeling.

It was actually more of a retorcial question, since the answer was clear, but there was something... unburdening about actually answering or being asked that kind of question.

Serenity knew that Kara already knew the answer to her question, but she nodded anyways. It always helped to talk about him. Sometimes ... it almost felt as if he were alive again, that if she were to go back to the Southland he would be there, waiting for her ...

"The only thing that keeps me going is the hope that I might see him again someday," she murmured softly, her eyes downcast.

Kara nodded, there was always that, that hope. Her people (well the people she was raised by) had the hope too.

"You have that belief too? That everyone comes back?"

"It's more than a belief," Serenity replied softly, smiling. "It's a fact. There are quite a few elves, actually, who are living their second or even third lives. Who knows? Maybe I am too. The memories of previous lives return after a few hundred years ... so I have quite a bit of time before I'll find out. But ... yes, there are many who have already remembered."

She paused. "And the Valar of course told our ancestors many things ... they lived alongside the Firstborn for millenia, and since they were the ones who created our world ... one could assume that we can believe what we learned from them." She smiled again.

Kara nodded, "It's quite similar to what I grew up with," she replied thoughtfully.

Partly because of her mother, but her father had developed the same beliefs. Then again seeing spirits did that to you.

"And how does it differ?" Serenity asked curiously, brushing aside a tree branch as she passed it by.

"We believe that there are two parts to us, the body, right here and now, and the.... spirit would be the best word for it," she murmured, "When we die our spirits leave our body, for a certain amount of time we spend time on the earth as spirits before going off to be reborn."

Serenity nodded slowly, thoughtfully. "Yes ... that's quite similar. Interesting."

She paused momentarily as the path grew suddenly very steep.

Kara turned her eyes back to the path again as she made sure her fotting was good. Afterall, the last thing she wanted was to tumble down and she couldn't fly still.

"Do you have anything like the red thread?"

Serenity held her hand out to help Kara up the steep section, and the look on her face was startled.

"Never until Gion mentioned them," she replied curiously, puzzled. "What are they? He said I have one ... and Ulani and Ulrich ... but that was all he said about them."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2007 6:38 pm

Kara blinked, she was a bit surprised to hear that, actually she was very surprised, it must have shown.

"He must be getting that from papa, he could always see the red threads," Kara commented softly, "They say that everyone is connected to another person by a red thread wrapped around their pinky or baby toe. That person is suppose to be your soul mate, and they say, that no matter how far you go, in space or time they are never separated because that thread is a spiritual one. So even if the person at the end of that thread dies, once that person comes back again, no matter what they come back as, you can probably find them again."

Serenity couldn't help but giggle. "That explains a few things," she murmured, putting one hand to her eyes and shielding them against the sun, peering out into the distance towards the cave where they were headed. They could reach there by noon ... the place where they had spent that night oh so long ago. Since she assumed that was where Kara wanted to go back to.

But she was also filled with hope once more, hope that she might someday be reunited with her deceased husband. And the hope that was kindled in her heart showed on her face - in that moment, she appeared years younger, youthful once more.
