Atticus simply shook his head, looking at the floor still. His eyes were distant, thinking of the past.

 Phoenix looked at Atticus, who was off in lala land, and Buffy, who looked deeper in thought than he was. "Uh.. yeah... so...." She shuffled her feet.

Buffy was thinking back to L.A., in the hotel room with Connor and Dawn and everyone going crazy... and the Mohra demon who ended up infecting Angel... making him human again.
She knew that Connor had been somewhat responsible for it, since it was his blade and his inelegant fighting that landed Angel with the wound that would change both their lives forever.
She'd left Spike because of it.
Spike was no longer in the picture.
Because Angel was no longer human, he was susceptible to harm.
Hadn't he told her what the Powers that Be had said the first time around? He'd said that he wasn't meant to be human, and here was this guy.. talking about Mohra demons and....
She just couldn't put her finger on it.
She stalked over to him. He would answer her now, or leave.
"If you weren't born that way, then you need to explain. Fully, Mr. Rogue Demon Killer Man. I don't care if you turn those baby blues on me, and I don't care HOW long your lashes are. You WILL tell me your story. I need to know if you're a threat, and you saying you aren't isn't gonna cut it, guy."
She took a deep breath after all that, and leaned her head under his and looked him dead in the eye.

Atticus' lips were parted as he stared off. When Buffy looked him into the eyes, he finally came back into reality and saw her fully. He stood up, walked over to his room door, looking like he was going to leave, but instead he just shut it and leaned his hands against it, next to Phoenix.
"I've never told anyone before..." Atticus mentioned, turning to face them. "So I guess now is a good time to start..." he walked back over and sat on the edge of his bed.
"I had a fiance once. We loved each other. We were going to get married, but...something happened...something bad..." Atticus paused for a moment, wondering if he should go on. "My wife was a Witch. She didn't use very many spells. She didn't study very much magic, but she was a witch...that is why we had the knowledge of demons and the like."
Atticus could picture his fiance in his head. He put his hands over his face to keep tears from falling at seeing her face. "One night, we were having dinner at my brother's and...we were attacked. It all happened so fast, we didn't really know what was going on...we were just...attacked by a large group of demons. They...killed my brother and my fiance..."
Atticus' hands were shaking as he explained. He paused for a moment to think a little bit. It was so hard to talk about Her. He missed her so much.
"They toyed with me for a little while...then they left me for dead, thinking I was gone for good. I was barely alive, and I would've died if They hadn't found me..."

“I cannot stay any longer, but I will return.”
The canine monster stood tall and howled into the night. At least he knew where to find her. He found something useful from his day out. He made sure the howl was loud enough for those in the building to hear. A couple of parked cars began to sing with alarms. He sniffed once in the air and then ran off into the shadows.

Buffy wiped her own tears away. She knew just what it was like to lose someone you loved. To know that they were dead, and never coming back. She'd gotten lucky with Angel. Atticus wasn't that lucky.
But now wasn't the time for sentimentality. She'd play that role later.. or leave it for Phoenix, who was practially sobbing over there.
"Ok... who are they? Who found you?"

Phoenix was never ashamed of tears and didn't bother trying to hide them. She listened to what Buffy had to say, and clucked her tongue.
"God... you have no compassion at all."
She took a step closer to the distraught man, and placed what she hoped was a friendly and comforting hand on his shoulderblade.

"I don't know who they were..." Atticus mentioned, his voice now a little dark, but still filled with pain. "I thought they were there to help...but they were only there to use me..."
Atticus paused for a minute, trying to think of the right words to describe these people.
"I guess you could say...I was an experiment of theirs..." he mentioned. "There were people wearing white coats, so I thought they were doctors...but they didn't just fix me up and send me on my way. They fixed me up with parts of the Mohra demon.
I was fully awake when it all happened. They didn't completely drug me, so I could feel some of it..." Atticus winced at the memory of it. "I knew early on that they weren't there to help, that they were just making it worse...so as soon as I...felt fine enough to run...I did. Somehow I escaped that place...and now they're looking for me..."
Atticus looked up at both girls, seeing them in tears. His face was red itself, and he didn't know what to say after that, so he looked back down at the floor. ((Sidebar from Agethia: Yall now know Atticus' past. How do you feel? *Holds microphone up to you.*))

The only thing Phoenix could really do was grab him and hug him. Poor thing.
She stood there hugging him tightly, not even minding that he didn't hug back.

Buffy had gone very very still at the mention of the white coats, and her blood began to boil when he said they'd made him with parts of the demon. Those sons of bitches.
Those SONS of BITCHES.
She couldn't really unclench her jaw as she spit out, "Did any of them happen to mention the Initiative? Or call you a particular name? What more can you tell me about them?"
Riley told her they'd stopped experimenting on humans. She would make him VERY sorry if she found out he'd lied to her. And his little wifey too.
She stared at Phoenix for 30 seconds or so.
"PHOENIX!"

Atticus was surprised at Buffy getting defensive over this discussion. Her questions made him think she knew more about this than he did.
"I don't know about the Initiative part...but...they always did call me Test Subject 47...or something like that...so I knew this wasn't a real E.R...."
Atticus looked at her face, and when she shouted Phoenix's name, Atticus jumped. He hadn't even realized the girl was hugging him!
"a**, eh?" he asked with a smirk.

She was careful to not squeeze too tightly, but he needed some lovin'. She smirked, thinking I hope he doesn't think I'm coming on to him.

Atticus didn't hug Phoenix back though. He was still in pain, and just because she was hugging him didn't make them close buddies. Atticus could see a friendship in the future though, maybe.
"I'm not sure where they took me." Atticus mentioned. "But it was definately somewhere here in Ohio. It wasn't Cleveland, though..."

Well, she thought, finally releasing him, Awkward.
Phoenix glanced at her watch. It was late. Like, superduper late.
"Um... you guys finish up... I don't know what's going on, and -"
She gasped.
"I forgot to tell you, I found a nest, and I wanna kill some of those bloodsuckers in the morning."
She put her hand on the doorknob.
"So, I'll just go to bed. I hope you feel better, Atty."
