Montsho moved gracefully amoung the lush foliage, her movement covered by the sounds of a nearby waterfall. The grown leopard slipped between two trees that face the river, leaving her in the open with a small jet black parcel on her back. The tiny bundle of a lioness slid carefully down the back of the spotted black feline as she sat. Layla tumbled a bit but caught herself only a half foot or so later, turning slowly and thoughtfully back to her gaurdian.

"Now you learn to find food," The deep voice whispered, there were so few signs of emotions, but Layla was learning how to spot them.

The tiny lioness looked about herself, finding nothing worth eating, and then to the seemingly empty river, and her eyes returned to Montsho with some hopelessness. There was nothing here to eat, this was obvious, how could they catch something here, Layla's feature's were confused as she thought to herself.

"Ah, Not all is as it appears," the leopard revealed a small grin before reaching over carelessly to a lowhanging tree branch and brushing it roughly.

Layla's eyes opened wide as she heard the rustle all about her and even above her. Everything seemed to be moving all at once.

Edit: ((Thalian, if it takes me a few minutes to respond it's because I'm taking my dad out for shopping, apparently he's too tipsy to drive.))

He continued with his long walk along the bank of the stream. So far nothing seemed out of the ordinary. The birds were singing as usual, darting from one branch to another. The waters babbled over the rocks and along the shore as it made its way away form it’s source, the slight hum of bugs in the grass would dull as he passed then strike up again once he was past them. Indeed there very well might have been other cats in the jungle but it was a large jungle and the odds of him finding the few were pretty slim. Whether or not he found then didn’t really matter to him at all… they were probably passing through or were hunting for a meal.

A log laid on it’s side in his path- half rotten and leaning against a rock. It made a bit of an incline over the river and was one of his favorite places to relax. Maji leapt to the surface and climbed to the climax of the log, enjoying the feel of damp rotten -but still strong enough to support even an adult lion- wood and moss on his paws. The stormwind blue ears rose up and rotated around for any sign of sounds that weren’t familiar to him. A voice… an older voice.

Slowly he turned in the direction of the sound and spotted a large black cat- an adult. He couldn’t see her cub for there was much foliage in-between him and her along the river bed. He froze- a bit afraid of this large cat. He’d read upon the walls that adults would kill cubs that were not their own. He didn’t wish to die- however… he had an advantage. He knew this jungle, he knew where to hide and creatures that would help him hide if it was needed.

Montsho brought her large face close to Layla and blinked a couple times, a little grin on her features.

"Now you are to go and find something for us. You'll need to find something large...like a rabbit. Be sure to be quiet when on the approach," the leopard then withdrew herself from alongside the cub, sliding back into the shadows.

The ebony cub flicked her tail once in agreement and pushed forward, moving as slinkily as she could, imitating the older leopard. Her body was low to the ground, and her stomach brushed the taller blades of grass as sh approached the river. She did not take notice of the other lion in the distance, but rather looked at the riverside and the worrisome amount of bushes in the area. She began by slinking to a particularly large one not too far away, her purple eyes glistening in excitment.

Kitambi, uncomfortable in crowds and keen for adventure, eyed his jungle home, before hatching a plan.
Nodding for Kasida to follow him, the leopard cub scampered down the tree, winding his way through the wooded area in search of another area of jungle he had heard about, almost untouched and unspeakably beautiful. In search of this, the young spotted cat moved swiftly, grin snaking over his maw.

Maji watched silently from where he stood as the female spoke downwards- towards something obviously- then took her leave. She obviously felt whatever it was that she was speaking to would be safe here. A cub more likely than not… he hadn’t seen the cub when he first spotted the leopard but that didn’t mean there wasn’t one. He watched still a bit after she left, his ears flicking forward into attention as he heard the sound of something moving in the brush. The sound faded and the image of a black cub lurking close to the ground appeared for only a moment, disappearing once again into the brush.

How curious was that? The adult letting the cub do the hunting? Maybe it was her time to learn how to hunt. The writings did say that cubs were eventually told to hunt for themselves- at least to try until they understood how well enough to survive off of that. He remained silent- neither knowing if the cub was friend or foe. He was curious and craving to speak with it- but he was far from stupid and until he could be sure that this other feline was safe, he’d remain silent.

Layla kept her body motioness, listening for anything, her breathing was deep and as slow as her body would allow. The sound of displaced foliage caught her mind, her ears swiveling to hear it better. She leaned in, careful to not disturb the drying leaves about her as this creature had done.

There was another movement to her right and lashed out quickly, falling off balance. She'd hit something though, she'd felt something hard in her way and then it's swift retreat. Having lost her proper footing she fell a bit to the left and back but continued the roll so that she stood once more. What had she done wrong, she hit the animal, why isn't she and Montsho eating it right now?

Having rolled so far back, she now stood back out near the river, shacking her small head and allowing her ears to whip to and fro to free the dirt and bits of twigs that stuck there. She stood perfectly still for a moment and flicked her tail, her thoughts going over what, if anything she did wrong. There was a small temptation as she stood there to return to Montsho, but she would not go back without food, she'd have to do this on her own one day.

*Finishing up lapping the water Kini raises his head. Wondering what other life was out their besides looming around the waters, he decides to explore the jungle. Standing up and licking the water from his chops he starts to pad off into the forest.*

Layla looked up quite startled from her confused look around the area. Her eyes met Maji's and she suddenly froze in fear, her body locking up completely. She waited untill he was finished, contemplating running and how she'd go about it untill he made his offer. She did need help, but she was unsure if Montsho would be okay with her learning from another. With an awkward step backward she turned to look back into the shadows of the trees, her ears perked as if asking some form of a silent question.

After a mere moment she turned back, her features rather happy and a hint of a smile played at her mouth. She nodded slowly and took a cautious, shaky step forward toward the lion.

((Is Maji an adolescent?))

She returned the smile quickly and moved closer to the river's edge, slow and her eyes a bit timid as she watched his. He looked nice, but the other's had too before they got all stiff. She stood near the bank and struggled for some sounds that she'd heard others make to make a thought aloud. There were a few that made sense to her and she tried to string them together in her mind. As she did this her eyes gazed blankly over the flowing river, finally the sentence was complete as she could make it and she turned toward the other to see if it could be pronounced properly.

"Me...get food for...other," her pauses were spots where she thought very deeply on how to continue, her eyes narrowed in concencration and her voice low and soft, if a bit deep for a lioness cub. Having completed the sentence to the best of her ability she turned toward the shadows and lifted one of her paws in it's direction.

"A-dult...prote-ect," she formed the words slowly, giving each sylable a bit more accentuation than necessary.
