I'm interested in seeing what the new mercenary army is gonna be. *waits anxiously*

Sources claim that they be insectoid and ugly as sin neutral .Damn it!
Possibly count as jump infantry. confused
Prolly' some army that has one model in it that costs 2,000 points that's bigger than a titan and is undefeatable.

They're called Vespid... Not much else is known save for a sketch and them being rumored as being a Fast attack choice.

Wow, that could be pretty awesome. We could really use some more fast attack choices as most people don't like kroot hounds, and pathfinders are more than a little controvercial. We're fine on elites and heavy support and more fast movers is where we're a little lacking. Could be sweet, can't wait for the new codex.

Hah! looks like GW's legal department missed that one. That picture's been taken down on alot of other forums because they've been asked to take it down.

Anyway, rumor has them being battlesuit sized and better (or at least more survivable) than Kroot at close combat.

No not really Tau are the ultimate a long and the only good units at close combat are the broadsides and crsis suits. does any one play tau on dow? I killed a squad of possesed with firewarriors before.

The Tau have been my army for as long as I have played 40k.
They have won me tournaments.
They are not a close combat army, although Kroot have their uses.
My theory is this:
Why do you need close combat when you have the best rapid fire guns in the game?

In my experience, point blank shooting is extremely effective with Tau, provided you can eliminate the threat before it has a chance to charge.
Usually two full fire warrior teams with crisis suit support is enough.

So, the Tau are very effective without many close combat troops, and I do not forsee GW introducing any new Tau models for that purpose.
Remember: an army is only as good as the player.

That is all.

I think the idea with Vespids is to introduce a CC ally for the Tau that doesn't go squish in the second round of combat. I don't forsee them having power weapons or a WS better than 4, but they should have a 4 or 3+ save and pretty good toughness.

As much as I like the Tau, they are a VERY unforgiving army to play, and they're so squishy in CC that even Necrons assault us without fear. Our Kroot are great on the charge, but they're more of a situational unit and hardly have any survivability. I think this is an attempt to give us some slightly crunchier counter-assaulters.
