Scuttlers is nice, but it's not an absolutly necessary, must-take upgrade the way Ext. Carapace is. 5+ saves are on the verge of uselessness, as almost everything except the humble lasgun punches through it. 4+ is needed to make sure you're at least getting saves against most fire.
Yea, but when your opponet gets one round of shooting, how much dose a 5+ save matter?

Depends who's shooting. Genestealers with a 5+ save have half a chance of living through one turn of fire from Guardsmen. One turn of fire from from Fire Warriors or Space Marines? A snowball's chance in hell, since Fire Warriors usually set up somewhere where you'll need to charge across open ground to get to them. Terrain also is less protective when you have a 5+ save, as hiding behind terrain means I can tag you with a Smart Missile and deny your save, and hiding in terrain means I can bring the weight of fire to bear to deny the cover save.

Amos, You can make CC fexes work (with effort, and not that well), but if nothing else, drop all those extra upgrades and make him an Elite-fex, because he's a HUGE points sink as is.

I used to like fighting Guard too, then my friend started playing IG, and he plays Hard Guard. Carapace and Camoline, and whenever possible, he sticks them in a building or fortified building/bunker to get a 3+ or 2+ cover save. Without Hellhounds or dedicated assault units, they're impossible to dislodge.

Wouldnt a brood lord be able to do it?

Yes, because a Broodlord is a dedicated assault unit. However, I play Tau so I can't use those. I know lot about Tyranids, Necrons and (marginally less about) IG though because my friend plays them against me alot.

It's my understanding that Genestealers cost a HUGE number of points, making a rather ineffective fire-soaker. Try Hormaguants, maybe?

i got 64 hormagaunts biggrin

and ca a fex have both a barbed strngler and a venom cannon?

and if it can, can it fire both in a turn?
Yep, all because its a monsterous creature

can it shoot at different targets?

can hormaguants fleet of claw because they are beasts?

does that mean that they can move 24inch in one turn with a decent fleet roll and charging?

im not using mine to their full potential if they can.... sad

Technically yes, but conditions would have to be perfect, meaning that you would have to be exactly 24 inches away from an enemy and roll a 6 on fleet.

That is correct. As far as I know, only Space Wolf Long Fangs and Tau squads with target lock or some such can fire at more than one unit in the same turn.

so, say i had a fex with a venom cannon, and a barbed strangler, i could shoot into a unit of guard with the strangler, the shoot the survivors with the venom canon, then possibly charge the remainders of the unit?
(sorry im asking so much, i dont have a rule book and my local games workshop closed)

Yes, you can always fire both weapons as a monstrous creature, and seeing as every Tyranid weapon symbiote is an assault weapon, you can assault as well if in range.
